Push Me Pull You

Push Me Pull You

Entertaining game, if not a bit pricey for what it is. Incredibly simplistic, which has pros and cons. On one side, it lets you jump right into the game, making it great for party settings. However, there are no options to customize your controls, so if an issue arises you could be ♥♥♥♥ out of luck. Overall I’m a fan of the game. It’s hilarious, controls are intuitive, and very fun. But if you’re going to buy it, maybe wait for a discount.

This is absolutely the funniest game I’ve ever played, when we first started me and my friends couldn’t stop laughing for about 20 minutes!

Shame the multiplayer is local only =(

But for all the fun it gave to me and my friends I say 10/10!!!

2D Baseball Duel

A baseball game like I’ve never seen before. The outwardly simple gameplay proves to be shockingly deep, and the uniquely clean art, witty writing, and catchy soundtrack complete the package. Well made all around and definitely worth picking up.

Disclaimer: I made the soundtrack for this game but I was otherwise uninvolved with its development.

This game is hilarious and good old fashioned arcadey fun. I don’t want to spoil anything, but you should play through the entire single player campaign. I was laughing the entire time. I could see the 2p mode catching on in competitive circles as it’s a great mix of mindgames + execution. With the crazy number of unlockable pitches + the breaking ball mechanic there is a ton of depth there to explore. It amazes me that this was all made by one person, from the programming to the game design to the art. Looking forward to future releases from Largemann!

Axis Football 2018

Axis Football 2018

For me, Axis 18 got off to a rough start. At first it was receivers who caught everything even if they were triple covered. Then there was a problem with the run game. CPU teams would finish the game with something like 14 yards in 18 attempts. Then there were issues with the ball not being spotted correctly, or the wrong team getting to choose what happens on a penalty.

And then it all got fixed. The developer listened to his customers and fixed the issues that were reported.

Axis 18 is now a pretty solid football game. The stats are realistic and the game is enjoyable to watch. Yes, I said watch. I play strictly exhibition mode. I watch the games. Occasionally I’ll play in coach mode if I want to call the plays. So I can’t comment on how the game is if you control the players.

I was lucky enough to be able to play the beta for this game and now that the game is out, I bought the game and am more than happy with it. Let me start by saying that the game is developed by a small indie team, but man do they listen to the community! ‘Can you add this or change that?’ Discuss, update, test, done. That’s the attitude that makes a game successful. They had a vision when making the game, but they know gamers have options and the future is looking good for sim football. So here are my thoughts on the game.

I ended up returning this game. The user interface was garbage and it was hard to tell what I could pick or not for character before starting the game. There is no guide as to what buttons do what for the characters. Some didn’t seem to do anything other than one thing while others did a special related to thier sport. Even without all those issues which were really bad the game just didn’t feel like it would be fun. I will admit to not actually getting to play it with others before I returned it.

ClusterPuck 99

ClusterPuck 99

Note: This is my first review and I purchased Clusterpuck 99 for (ironically enough) $0.99.

Clusterpuck 99 has a lot of elements that make it an ideal game to pick up and play if you regularly play video games with people on your couch. It boasts the rare ability to have 8 players play at once (if you have the controllers and USB ports to pull it off, mind you), and what it lacks in graphics, a sluggish pace, and the glaring error of no online multiplayer it tries to makes up for with its simple and engaging concept and gameplay. This simple game (with its ~4 controls) regularly creates the memorable moments that most people look for in local multiplayer games. You know, the ones where people are laughing, yelling, or high-fiving because of momentary displays of skill, chaos, or brilliance.

I wholeheartedly recommend buying ClusterPuck ‘99. My friends and I went out to buy Cards Against Humanity, but ended up coming home with a Steam giftcard to but Crawl with. We had another $10 leftover, so we looked up “great steam multiplayer games”, or something along those lines—and came across this game. We watched the first trailer (not the live-action one) and it peaked our interest. Then we watched the live-action trailer. We were hooked. We experienced some issues downloading it because Steam was experiencing “heavy load” at the time, seeing as it was Memorial Day. It was well worth the wait. ClusterPuck ‘99 is one of the best games I have played in my life. I would be willing to give PHL Collective the funds to make as much DLC or ClusterPuck ‘00 if they wanted (if I had the money, but I’d be willing to work for it). These devs are awesome and so is their game. I can’t recommend this enough. Just make sure you have enough controllers, because everyone’s gonna wanna play.

Kraken Smash: Volleyball

Kraken Smash: Volleyball

I love this game! It’s got the right amount of competitiveness to keep it fun and ongoing. If you like Lethal League, you’ll love playing this game with friends.

I’d love to see some sort of mini game for solo to act as a sort of tutorial but also something that allows a single player to enjoy the game more when playing by themselves. The bot is a little hard but I feel like it being hard really teaches you how to play and get better.

The only thing that truly bothers me is the specific, animated orange background that’s extremely distracting towards the bottom. It’s still playable, but it’s too similar to the ball color when it reaches the second hit. Other than that, I haven’t run into any other issues yet!

PGA TOUR 2K21

PGA TOUR 2K21

Coming from The Golf Club 2019. While the game was extremely rough on the edges, especially on the presentation being awful, I still loved the game for one reason : The gameplay. It felt amazing and I fell in love with it despite all the other shortcoming.

When I saw PGA Tour 2k21 out, I expected to be completely let down, the usual EA tactic of releasing the same game with barely if any change at all. Luckily I was wrong on this regard. A ton of gripes I had with TGC2019 was corrected, such as partial swings being impractical, the green grid partially covering the green, no spin control on the ball and no customizable clubs/stats. Yes the game is basically TGC2019 V.2 but, to be honest for a moment here, you can’t really add anything too substantial to a sport game that relies on being realistic beside polish. I do agree on the fact that full price for this game is a tad expensive : You do need to enjoy realistic golf to make the price tag feel right.

Full disclosure, I bought the Deluxe Edition when it was on sale for about 30 bucks and I had a $25 Steam gift card, so this game was as close to free as I could get without someone gifting it to me.

Would I recommend this at full price to anyone for the Deluxe Edition? No.

Would I recommend this to someone getting it at a steep discount? Absolutely.

Now, on to the review.

You’ll read a lot of negative comments about the commentary, and all of it is true. It’s repetitive, rarely describes what’s actually happening, recaps will seem like they’re from an entirely different match, etc. This is spot on critique. There is a lot of jank in the way the commentary will put together random phrases to try and simulate actual play by play and color commentary. But sometimes, that jank is golden.

Virtua Tennis 4™

Despite criticism about the few innovations that the game brought in my opinion this the best version released of VT series until now. OK they could have added more new and interesting things to this version after the 2009 which is already similar in many ways to 3, but the gameplay for example I thought is really better and smooth, in this version is not totally arcade like before, it is noticed a little more simulation on movements and the way you have to positioning yourself to hit the ball, which I really enjoy, but in same time I think they shouldn’t have put that super shot with annoying animation. And about the animations, the worse thing in the game undoubtedly is in online playing where there is NO WAY to skip the replays, this simply mess up any chance to have a good online play since almost every point you have to wait the boring slowmotion replay of a not spectacular point in many occasions.

3D Ultra™ Minigolf Adventures

3D Ultra™ Minigolf Adventures

Words cannot describe how powerful and emotionally moving this game is. In point of fact, I would say that 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures sets a new standard not only for the videogame industry, but also for all art in any medium. The work of William Shakespeare wilts in comparison to the raw energy that radiates from this majestic creation.

Fools might say that 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures is “glitchy”, “broken”, or worse yet “borderline unplayable”. Those people are unwashed heathens whose puny minds simply cannot comprehend the intricacies of high art. Academics are able to correctly see Wanako Games’ mind-bending piece illustrates the simple truth that, since human beings are inherently flawed creatures, all things that they create will in turn be inherently flawed. Take, for example, the “Outer Space” courses. Whenever I attempt to play on any of these courses, my computer begins to dry heave like a bloated walrus attempting to give birth to a tractor-trailer. Fools might see this as a flaw, but those academics who can understand what Wanako Games is attempting to achieve here can begin to appreciate the majesty of such a feature. Space is often called the final frontier, and by making the game near impossible to play on any of the Outer Space courses, Wanako underscores human limitations. When the you attempt to push the limits of humanity Wanako breaks your computer and forces you to confront the fact that there are certain things human beings cannot do. Thus, Wanako furthers the theme of the inherent failings of humanity. While another game might seek to blindly empower the player, 3D Ultra Minigolf Adventures is far more intentioned and careful in its gameplay.

Very basic mini-golf game, with only 36 unique holes in the career, with the first 18 being unlocked in the first leg of the career, the second 18 in the second leg, and the third and final leg of the career makes you go through all 36 in one sitting. There’s an additional 18 tiki-island-themed holes that have their own campaign, suggesting that they may have originally been part of some DLC or something and are incorporated into the base game for free now. The only reason I’ve spent ~7.4 hours in the game was because of how clunky putting, the most fundamental part of golf, is here: in order to get the ball to go much of anywhere, you need at least 40% power; however, anything over 60% power will probably send the ball out-of-bounds, and it’s very tricky to hit that happy medium. There’s a custom-hole-creator, but it’s super-basic, with no online-sharing capabilities. There are four personae, two males (a punk rocker with no mouth and a high-school footballer with no eyes) and two rather-sexualised females, both with their navels showing, so I can’t really recommend this one for the kiddos, either. Best to save your money and pray that one of Steam’s Early Access mini-golf games ever come out for full release…
