Heat Signature

Heat Signature

Tom Francis is quickly becoming one of my favorite humans, and I don’t even like humans.

Heat Signature is one the “main” games that Tom Francis aka Pentadact aka Suspicious Developments. He’s behind Gunpoint, Heat Signature and the upcoming Tactical Breach Wizards. He has done some other stuff like Floating Point and Morphblade but those are a bit more niche, at least in my opinion.

Unlike other space rogue-like/lites where you’re the overseer of a crew and typically deal with resource management as well as real time or turn based combat strategies; Heat signature pits you as a single mercenary out to liberate the galaxy or more accurately, to fulfill contracts for money and glory.

NEW REVIEW (the old one is down below):

The game has changed a lot since my old review and as far as I can tell, only for the better.

First I will list all the content, that was not there back then: Contractors (Defender, Jammer, Tracker, Predator), Jammer doors, Clients, Reinforcements, Ship teleporters, Stealth shields, Character traits, possibly more.

Foremost I want to honor the decision to replace self-charging devices with those that only recharge when visiting a station, limiting the resources during a mission, so that each usage has to be thought through way more carefully. The only self-charging devices are the crash and acid traps, but those are far more tricky to use properly than the beams.

Starless

Starless

A flotilla of three space arks set off for a distant planet.

An emergency has occurred on your ark: the entire team has been infected with a mysterious virus, and the life support’s are damaged.

Trying to save the dying ship, artificial intelligence brings the first colonist out of suspended animation.

Starless is a stealth action game where you as colonists make your way through the gloomy corridors of the space ark. Your main allies are caution and prudence.

If the colonist dies, the next one will take his place, but the number of people on board is limited. Each death is a serious threat to the flotilla’s mission, as a small number of people will not be able to establish a colony on a distant planet.

You are assisted by Aurora, the ark’s artificial intelligence. Her goal is to save the ship at all costs, but the lives of one or two people do not matter to her.

Game Features

  • Unpredictable enemies. Be prepared to improvise when you meet them

  • A giant space ark that holds many secrets

  • Use gadgets: a plaster mine, a teleporter trap, a motion detector, and much more

  • The atmosphere of a gloomy cold space

  • Contact the rest of the ark fleet and find out what happened to them.

  • Mr. Scratch. What fate befell a cat taken on a space trip?

Space Pioneer

Space Pioneer

Space Pioneer is a simple & straight forward twin stick shooter with loads of mobile style upgrade grinding. Roguelike fans will probably find this one on the easy side but if you like circle strafing enemies with the trigger down, give it a try.

Early Looks into the game:

Played For around a half hour, and so far, I like it.

Game is fun, lots of good bosses and gameplay, definitely something I havent seen a game done before.

I haven’t found out yet but im assuming that this game is sort of an enhanced pc edition of a mobile game because im getting that kind of feel from this game. However, the game is VERY good for something that I feel like would be a mobile game. Definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys quick fps rounds involved with fast paced gameplay. I would mostly recommend getting this game on a discount, but full price is still a decent price.

SCP: Fragmented Minds

SCP: Fragmented Minds

SCP: Fragmented Minds explores the reality in which The Foundation fails to contain a breach due to a cataclysmic XK-Scenario. You will awaken in the derelict depths of Mars Site-113, the most advanced off-world facility The Foundation has ever created, to discover what happened during your long hypersleep and piece together the solution to the single most devastating event humanity has ever seen. Who or what you find in the facility will ultimately determine your fate. Choose your path wisely.

Included SCPs and Characters:

New and classic SCPs will be included that will each have their own unique look as well as unique interaction style to ensure combat and stealth gameplay strategies are both viable and variable depending on the situation you find yourself in. There will be interactable characters sprawled across the facility, which can even include SCPs that traditionally have been portrayed as hostile. Platforming, crafting, and puzzle-solving elements will be mixed into the gameplay to create a challenging and fun interaction for players throughout the experience.

The Environment:

For the first time ever, you will take the role of an Advanced Site Researcher. Use a wide variety of platforming mechanics and equipment to stealthily traverse your way around the facility’s unique environment. Site-113 will feature several distinct zones that each will have its own unique look, weapons, items, and enemies. These zones will range from the frigid R&D Zone, the overgrown Aquaponics Zone, and the infested Military Zone.

Multiplayer - The Hunt:

With multiplayer game modes ranging from Team Deathmatch to Capture the Flag, Fragmented Minds will feature a game mode for all players. For a more intense and unique experience, players can jump into The Hunt, which is our flagship experience that will pit MTF and SCPs against each other in an objective-based horror mode taking place in the SCP’s natural habitats. The Hunt will feature random objective types, equipment, and other elements so no two rounds will be identical. Players will be able to upgrade their load-outs and perks throughout a round to become more survivable. Respawns will be limited and teamwork is critical to completing the objective, whether that be containing the SCPs by deploying the Field Generators or slaughtering the MTF.

Somewhere on Zibylon

Somewhere on Zibylon

Note: My card idler went crazy on this one and gave me way too many played hours.

Somewhere in Zibylon is a Descent-like third person puzzle/exploration/combat game where you control a robot zone and fly through various environments.

While certainly a good concept, the implementation here is completely broken. Fixed controls, and broken controls (I was unable to propel the ship, I could just look around). Maybe with control mapping that could have been worked around but as is, for many gamers, this game will be unplayable. No resolution options either. $14 is a joke for an unplayable game.

What a cute little game! The puzzles are actually quite fun, though they do make me feel a bit stupid at times. Some are pure logic ones involving levers, weights, timing, and so forth, but a fair amount of others have to do with figuring out the geometry of the space you’re in. The game is quite beautiful at times, and while it feels (I can’t tell for sure yet) like it is not going to have many sandbox elements or choices, it’s pretty relaxing if you take your time. Just take a look at the video and I hope you’ll see that this is no ordinary “random game that was released with a flurry of other games on Steam”, the developer put a true effort into making it worth the bother.

Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation

I think this is one of the best games ever made. Its ironic it came on the heels of the disaster which was Colonial Marines (Which I kind of like, particularly in its extended content which is where Isolation originated)

Anyway, really scary AI Alien that one shots you and does learn your play habits forcing you to constantly change things up. Excellent attention to detail of the original Alien movie props. Its a game filled with jump-scares even when you know whats coming. Game allows backtracking to previous set pieces once you have more equipment to deal with obstructions.

Real player with 506.7 hrs in game

I’ll keep this simple: best horror game ever made, go play now.

For Alien fans: if you haven’t played this, you’re missing out on something better than Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection combined could have ever been. This is the true 3rd installment in the franchise and is a true piece of art from start to finish in all its details.
