Space Pilgrim Episode I: Alpha Centauri

Space Pilgrim Episode I: Alpha Centauri

Overview:

Space Pilgrim Episode I: Alpha Centauri is a casual point-and-click RPG set in a sci-fi universe where Captain Gail Pilgrim makes her livelihood transporting cargo and passengers aboard her father’s old starship. In predictable fashion, something goes awry when the ship is in space, and the adventure begins.

Graphics and Sound:

What are you expecting for a game that you get “awarded” coupons for on Steam for crafting badges? Alright, I won’t cut any corners this time! The graphics and sound are both comparable to the graphics and sound to games made in the fourth generation of consoles, which is good enough for me, since I find game graphics from that generation to be aesthetically pleasing, and this game’s graphics are no exception. There’s nothing in particular that I like about the graphics, but there’s nothing I would consider game-breaking about any of the graphics.

Space Pilgrim Episode II: Epsilon Indi

A year after the Alpha Centauri Incident, Gail Pilgrim is still in the passengers business, though she has Sabina White, the clever scentist that became her co-pilot. Unfortunately, now in Epsilon Indi, she’s under the investigation of the J.A.C., the corrupt space police. Between the rebel scientist, the priestess of a strange cult and the young man that want to be a Jackal, Gail and Sabina have to survive the encounter. And what surprise is in stock for them?

This game is the sequel of Space Pilgrim Episode I: Alpha Centauri. So, you bet that you’re familiar with the ship. The story is still well-written, with the same humor as before: Gail still in dangerous situation, not really trusting herself, Sabina still logical and in her world and now, on top of that, a young man overconfident with himself, a scientist that is too absorbed in his work and a priestess that makes sense but not really. You still have Galactic Hospital as the sitcom on TV and the cat Zubar, though he’s not useful in this opus.

Space Pilgrim Episode Two: Epsilon Indi, 2020 FRIENDLY GAME SERIES

If you like Firefly at all then you may just love this RPG Maker style game where you interact with items to play out episodic style narratives, with a few small puzzles involving item mixing and of course, a few laughs now and then.

**Edit: 2019 and I have played this episode through 6 times over the past several years!

This game has mature content, mainly tame sexual or bodily references for humor. Recommended for teenagers and above.**

Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 1

Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 1

Overview

Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 1 is the beginning of the second series of the Space Pilgrim Saga (fifth installment in the saga) which takes place eight years after the events of Space Pilgrim Episode IV: Sol. After a period of peace, Gail Pilgrim now lives the good life as an Ambassador of the Galactic Union and Chancellor of the Gail Pilgrim Space Academy who simply cannot overcome her adventuresome spirit as the game starts with Gail and the new crew of the starship Quicksilver investigating an attack on Latona Station in which the only survivor is a young girl named Maggie Dale whom Gail takes custody of until Maggie’s mother can be located. Continuing the Space Pilgrim Academy tradition of splitting time between Gail Pilgrim and somebody else, this time the adventure is divided between Gail and her personal quest to investigate the attack on Latona Station while trying to locate Maggie’s mother, and Maggie Dale as she attends classes and spends time between classes by socializing with fellow first year cadets.

Space Pilgrim Academy is a very nice adventure game cleverly using what the RPGMaker programming softwares have to offer.

It’s a sequel to the 4 chapters of the Space Pilgrim serie, though it’s enjoyable even without knowing those previous episodes.

Space Pilgrim Academy is truly faithful to Space Pilgrim spirit, as far as the storyline, humor and, to some extent, philosophical questioning are concerned.

For those who yet don’t know the background: the saga is futuristic. It depicts a sight of what’s left of humankind in the XXIIth century (if I recall, maybe later), in far away galaxies. There’s much about politics, some sorts of foreign affairs between factions, war and terrorism. From a certain point of view it’s very relevant and up-to-date with the world we’re living in (differently thinking people trying to share the same place.. some more peaceful than others, but all willing to gain power and rule over the others, hence leading to conflicts).

Space Pilgrim Episode III: Delta Pavonis

Space Pilgrim Episode III: Delta Pavonis

Gail Pilgrim and her co-pilot Sabina White set course to Leto, in Delta Pavonis. After ousting the police out of their spaceship and helping the rebellion, they need to stay low. Leto is a planet with many retired rebels or pilots and Gail’s dad is living there. So, while Sabina will try to get Emet out of the space port and make sure that the android isn’t spotted, Gail will try to find her dad as he disappeared and help friends of his… Seems to be easy, eh?

This third game continues the plot from the second episode. As usual, it’s full of humor, of Gail putting herself in impossible situations, though Sabina is now joining her in that field. True, the ending wasn’t the one I was expecting and I’m eager to discover the final episode but it’s nice to have a story that isn’t revolving around space ships.

Space Pilgrim Episode IV: Sol

Space Pilgrim Episode IV: Sol

Well, it was time to write this review. I mean, I managed to finish the guide in French for Delta Pavonis I’ve begun four years ago (shame on me, I had just to finish Act 3!), I wrote a guide in English for Sol for Neoseeker that I intend to translate in French for Steam. And I finally started Academy Year 1.

Anyway, you won’t believe that it was a pleasure to replay the whole saga. Hop on on Sol!

Gail Pilgrim, her trusted co-pilot Sabina White, friends Ashanti and Jojo, her father and his very good friend Karen Morant have been arrested on Planet Leto. They find themselves in Prison Station 13, where they meet an old friend of Emet’s. Gail will be facing though choices that will have consequences on the rest of her adventures and learn truths about her own family…

About

The 4th and final instalment of the Space Pilgrim saga. Only play this after you’ve played Space Pilgrim Episodes I, II & III, as the story continues from there. As like before, the game is in adventure point-n-click format and you can play using either keyboard, mouse, or a combination of both.

Verdict

Like its predecessors, but better. Has more content, and actual real choice. There’s more than 1 ending, and the story branches differently depending on what decisions you make. Continuation from previous episodes is completely seamless, and leads to a very satisfying conclusion. Attention to detail (i.e. the number of items in the scene that can be clicked on to yield descriptions), as with prior episodes, is always a plus.

Ayumi: Enhanced Edition is a great little game. I purchased this in January shortly after the 2.55 update, and was pleasantly surprised at how well this title is put together. The game makes heavy use of pre-made assets, but it does so in a way that builds an atmosphere of horror and suspence. The scares are spaced out in such a way that the game builds up a sense of dread, and then does something shocking, which made me jump more than a couple of times. As far as content, there’s a lot of game here. You can finish this title in about an hour or so, but there’s so many little things to find, as well as alternate endings. The game’s story is interesting, and is sprinkled with bits of Lovecraftian mythos, which really helps to set the stage. This product is well worth the asking price, and the creator Lord Rutsah has put a lot of love into this title, and it shows.

Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 2

Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 2

Overview

If you haven’t played any of the other games in the Space Pilgrim Saga, then stop reading and go play them! But for those of you who already know what the Space Pilgrim Saga is about, the game obviously takes place in Maggie Dale’s second year at the Gail Pilgrim Space Academy where there’s more academic life and the usual snooping and getting into trouble that’s endemic of youth culture, but this time, Maggie has unwittingly unleashed the full potential of her mind, discovering fascinating facts about some of her fellow cadets. Gail Pilgrim, as expected, is still the adventuress at heart despite living a comfortable life as Chancellor of the academy that bears her name and Ambassador of the Galactic Union, and sets out to conduct an internal investigation of the Space Wardens on Union Station in the Alpha Centauri system after receiving a tip from the villain in Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 1 that there’s corruption within the Space Wardens who apparently don’t seem to be any better than the Jovian Astrolaw Commission the Space Wardens replaced.

Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 2 is a nice adventure game on the RPG Maker format.

It’s a sequel to the 1st chapter Space Pilgrim Academy (which was the sequel to a previous excellent and fantastic serie named Space Pilgrim Saga)

Though it’s better to have played the 1st episode (and preferably the whole previous saga) to be acquainted with the storyline and the now legendary characters of the Space Pilgrim Saga, Space Pilgrim Academy: Year 2 can still be enjoyable for itself, even without knowing those previous episodes. But it’s far better when you know the whole story from its very beginning.

Great game to play when you are looking for some time to kill or are just looking for something new. The story line is simple and easy to follow and there are a lot of easter eggs that exist that are a challenge to find. Really worth the money for a simple game.

So this game could be a lost gem in the retro gaming world but due to shitty programming it’s not.

The game is actually really fun, you travel around space, beat some aliens and other opponents, completing various missions, buy new spaceships ect. ect. it could be a very fun game if there was no darkside.

The darkside of the game is that the programming is really bad and here is why:

  • The mouse programming ( which is absolutly not needed in this game) keeps the game crashing over and over again. Till you Figured out that keeping the mous on the middle of the screen solves the problem.

Ok so this game is quirky, it is fun, and it is definitely different. It is an A-RPG at it’s core, with a story, albeit short at the moment. I do recommend you give this game a shot, if you had fun with other ARPG’s, even Binding of Isaac fans could really get into this, altough it has more in terms of items, and managing things. I guess I will do the standard Pros and Cons for people here. . .

Pros:

1: Game has fun old-school style graphics (I enjoy at least, not everyone’s cup of tea I understand though)
