Deported: Drain the Swamp

Deported: Drain the Swamp

It’s difficult for me to write an unbiased review, any games from Crankage Games are worth it just for the dialogues alone. Heck I’d play this just to read the cutscenes' lines. If you’ve played anything from Crankage Games before, you know what to expect. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? They’re fun and they’re cheap.

This one is an arcade, old school gameplay. If you like a fun game without pretensions, just something fast and fun to play, give Deported a shot.

Today on my way home from work i stopped into a petrol station and snagged myself a chocolate bar for £1.15. I ate it in the car in just under 4 minutes, i enjoyed it. It probably did not do me any good but in the long term it wont have done me any harm.

When i got home i snagged a copy of Deported: Drain the swamp for 79p, i finished it in about half an hour. much better value than chocolate, and it was funny so it might of helped shed the choclate from my belly due to the light exercise of laughing.

Alien Function

Alien Function

Fun game with great story line and good puzzles ranging from easy to very challenging. Very very linear but the story line was engaging enough to want to keep on the ride. Really brought me back to the experiences i had playing Kings Quest, Police Quest, etc series way back in the day (showing my age now).

no hints, this game is bad.

i really wanted to see the end of this, but it’s just a ‘‘click everything until something works’’

also, the only alien you will see is on the title screen.

Space Quest™ Collection

Space Quest™ Collection

A Collection of 6 Space Quest titles released from 1986-1995. It’s a great Inventory Adventure series that Sierra On-Line created back when MS-DOS & Windows 3.1/95/98 was still by popular demand.

In Space Quest 1 - The Sarien Encounter:

Roger Wilco is one of the most important men on the starship Arcada: he is the janitor! Just when he was doing what he does best (dozing off in a closet), the shrill sound of an alarm penetrated the air. Arcada is attacked by the evil Sariens! Before Roger realizes what is going on, he discovers that he is the only survivor. The Sariens have killed the entire crew and stolen the valuable Star Generator. Roger’s immediate task is to find a way to leave Arcada, which is about to explode in fifteen minutes. And then he’ll have to show the Sariens why they should never mess with brave intergalactic janitors!

Recommendation:

I heartily enjoyed the Space Quest Collection, but they won’t be everyone’s jam. These games are ‘classics’ in the sense that they’re old, and filled with design decisions that may frustrate the unprepared. If you are looking for sci-fi adventure games to enjoy then I would recommend the Space Quest Collection if:

  • You have the mindset of an archeologist. If you are interested in the history of video games, and want to experience older graphics and gameplay conventions then you’ll find a lot to appreciate.

Bik - A Space Adventure

Bik - A Space Adventure

Impressive little point & click. Bik has a great story, highly likable characters & a hell of a lot of charm. Sure at 1st glance it looks a little ugly. But it quickly becomes apparent the look was intentional. The grainy amateur looking asthetic actually turns out to be quite beautiful. The puzzles posed a little bit of a challenge. Although there are some sequences that can be a little annoyingly repetitious, until you figure it out.

Overall Bik left me wanting more. I hope to see more of this in the future. This is well worth the $1.19 I paid for it, but at $5.99 it may be a little steep. I’d say grab it fast if it’s $4.00 or less.

Real player with 8.9 hrs in game

A really good point-and-click! It seems criminally underrated, and that’s a shame. It’s a lovely hidden gem.

The game’s got great writing, story, and characters. There’s a lot of good humor, adventure, and even drama (and sandwiches). I really like the worldbuilding this game establishes. Space is an interesting and colorful place with lots of things to discover and genuinely likable characters to meet. I had a lot of fun just clicking on different things and trying items in different combinations just to see what would happen. There’s also a bunch of neat little references to classic sci-fi here and there without it being distracting. What I really found fascinating is that you can use the “examine” button on the character you control, giving you some insight into their mental state; you learn something new about them whichever area you’re in. It was an interesting mechanic that gave whichever character you control a little bit more depth.

Iron Sky: Invasion

Iron Sky: Invasion

-Do you know how to drive this thing?

-Well, can’t be any different than playing “Wing Commander”!

~Iron Sky

I totally miss the times when we used to get at least one video game for every major motion picture. It was like… a part of the experience. A way to prolong your experience with the movie you liked. Together with comics and other stuff of the kind. I must say, though, Iron Sky was not the movie to make you expect video game. I mean, sure, it had quite big space battle in it, but the thing is – it wasn’t just a Sci-Fi movie. It was a satire. Pretty toxic one too. And toxic movie about Nazis in space is not something that instantly calls for a game. I mean, back in the days, when even Home Improvement TV show had its own game (insert Tim Allen’s grunt here) - sure. But nowadays, when even the biggest movies often don’t have any video game adaptations? Let’s just say that this game came out as a surprise. Especially since we’re talking a pretty big project here, not just yet another casual s… stuff for mobiles.

I picked this game up in a BundleStar game bundle, and have finished the game before writing this review. I have used a controller for a majority of my playthrough, and have entered this game without watching the movie.

Let me start with the postive-

1 The graphics are subpar to good; they look 2012-2013ish with decent lighting effects.

2 Some of the charachters such as the Indian diplomat are memorable and funny

3 When used with a XBOX360 controller, the game handles itself very well

Here are why I cannot recommend the game-

Sunshine Heavy Industries

Sunshine Heavy Industries

Sunshine Heavy Industries is a puzzle game about building spaceships for a cast of colourful clients.

It starts off very easy but as you go along you unlock more parts and customers have more specific demands, the challenge is trying to meet those requirements (such as enough Thrust, Firepower, Cargo space and so on) whilst also coming in under budget, after all this is a business! (Although a few extra fins and a horn couldn’t hurt, right?)

It’s a very chill relaxing game with some nice music and a cast of fun characters who are always a delight to talk to, there’s some real good witty dialogue at times.

Real player with 56.3 hrs in game

In the not-so-grim darkness of the future you are a newly employed spaceship designer building spaceships with about as much attention to detail as you would expect to be put into a custom pepperoni pizza.

All the characters are cute, funny and preposterously naive considering how often they must face their own mortality (judging by the size of the arsenals you staple on to the sides of ships).

The game is well paced and gradually increases its complexity.

The puzzles are tricky to do well, but are easy to complete, so players probably will not experience failure or be prevented from advancing the game.

BADA Space Station

BADA Space Station

Badass aims to bring short bursts of intense action by pitting you and your pals in an Arena against hordes of different enemies. The players will need to navigate through the different Arena Segments, killing all enemies that are sent against them and survive in order to win.

This is a co-op focused game. Gather your friends, stay close and coordinate in order to survive. At launch, there will be four available characters to choose from, all different and with unique playstyles.

All Characters share a similar control scheme. However, their Core Attacks, Weaponry, and Skills vary. This will have players make several choices on how they want their character to play out. Character progression is set by earning promotions and each new skill might open a whole new playstyle that you maybe had not yet considered. Do not get cocky though, the waves are randomized and you will not know what exactly comes next. So choose your skills and character wisely.

THE BRUTE

What happens when you combine Chewbacca and Conan the Barbarian? A furry brutality happens. Revel in the guts of your enemies as the first to enter the action and the last to leave. Use your gigantic Gun-Sword and either dismember or shoot your weakling enemies. Brawns is not the only thing this character has, from Explosive Rounds to Inspiring Brutality, this character has much more than meets the eye.

THE PUPPETEER

Like going fast? Like dodging bullets like nobody’s business? Like transforming your hand into a boomerang and throwing it around dismembering your unfortunate enemies? Then the Puppeteer is for you. Damage per second is her thing, and she does not shy away from playing dirty by becoming a blob that makes her invisible to her enemies. She can also fuse with other friends or foes, giving advantages or disadvantages to them.

THE SCARLET MAGNET

If you like tanking all the damage and if you like humiliating your enemies by using your Gravity Gun, then the Scarlet Magnet is for you. The best crowd control abilities will be at your disposal and on top of that you can use your Gravity Gun to traverse or manipulate the environment. You don’t like where our level designer has put the explosive barrels? Just pick them up and throw them at the poor souls in front of you.

DR. SCRAP

He might not look like it, but he is the smartest of the bunch. So smart that he modified his office chair into a machine of death. His Melee Attacks are nothing to boast about, but he does not need them. He is all about pure firepower and gadgets. All kinds of machinations can pop out of his chair, from Healing Turrets to Explosive Spiders, and if the worst happens, he can simply pick up his chair pieces and carry on with the fight.

BUT WAIT-

Why all this aggression? Why the violence? Can’t we all live peacefully?

**ABSOLUTELY NOT.**The premise is simple:

In this far far away galaxy a very odd Event happened a long time ago. The sun stopped emitting the usual rays that… you know… suns do. Instead, it started emitting pure badass hormones. As a result, every living thing in this galaxy became super pissed and macho, creating chaos that lasted ages. But the Big Four Companies did not like the chaos, as it decreased sales. Yes, capitalism existed - even before the Event - and no matter what the money needs to flow.

MEET YOUR SPONSORS

They created the BADA Space Station and started having their employees fight in the Arenas in order to promote their products to their now bloodlusted customers. Simple advertisements did not cut it anymore. On the other hand, advertisements from the most badass creatures in the galaxy were priceless. You would only buy something from someone stronger than you. And that’s where you come in.

  • Choose your Character.

  • Fight with your friends against countless enemies.

  • Promote the Sponsor Products during the battle.

  • Earn their Influence for a wide variety of Bonuses.

  • Level Up.

  • Unlock up to 20 Skills.

  • Gather randomly generated Loot.
