Dead Cells

Dead Cells

Heartily recommend this game to anyone who’s got the time - you’re likely to want to spend your entire days playing once you’re on a roll! The visuals and animations are outstanding - a unique one for nearly every weapon or skill available, lots of fun ways to customise your combat style, very enjoyable and fitting soundtrack, an engaging story that keeps you fighting even if just to see more lore, always a new challenge, something to up the difficulty; and the constant updates that only bring more to explore! On top of all that there are tons of hilarious little interactions between the player character and the world. Truly, the love shines through.

I took my time reviewing this for some reason, but dead cells is by far one of my favorite roguelites/likes if not my favorite. The way it plays can be sooo fast pace and clean, the music is top tier, sound is top tier, area design also top tier, the game as a whole is just really well made. Although the Boss Cell aspect gets a little repetitive, the satisfaction of beating that final one was immense and felt so rewarding. I definitely recommend to any new or veteran roguelite player

I gotta say, I really like this game. You control one of three characters (warrior, berserker and mage, although you have to complete the first boss to unlock the berserker and the second and third to unlock the mage), each with different mechanics,

stats and upgrades. Using just the mouse you can maneuver your hero and perform an attack, which costs mana, to kill enemies that keep spawning. The enemy diversity is good, each one with different attack types and harder enemies appear as you progress through the story.

This is a very disappointing game, can’t say it’s THAT bad, you decide:

+The one and only plus - battle mechanics - 1st time I’ve seen it in indiegala minigame made by the same person I guess, and what can I say - there it was WAY better - to move around you click left MB, to dash and kill you click right MB - now about the problems of the game

-You can’t dash while moving - you have to release LMB if you want to click RMB - like, what’s the problem? When a lot of enemies around you even the slight stop can kill you.

Mana Spark

Mana Spark

Hello and welcome to the ‘short’ version of the VOLTAGE-Review of the game Mana Spark. For the longer and in-depth version, together with more details on the end score, check out the full ‘VOLTAGE-Review video’.

(Note: I have played through this game several times by now, all the way from it’s early ‘Gamejolt-demo’ days, and my love for Mana Spark might mean that I’m way too harsh in some areas, and too lenient in others… Also know that I received this game for free in order to help and find as many bugs as I could during the closed alpha and beta stage of the game. Take that in mind. ^w^)

In a world where being human means you’re on the bottom of the food chain, monsters that can wield the energy known as Mana hunt down and enslave those weaker than them. Humans hide as best they can, and those that are found are either put to work, or outright killed. One day, a band of monsters happen upon a human settlement, and began raiding it, though instead of simply slicing through everyone they come across, the monsters located specific people in the camp, and kidnapped them. Finally having enough of the way things were, a group of humans decided to strike back at their tormentors.

  • When you start the game, the training section welcomes you and the training easily teaches you everything you need to know.

  • The graphic designs of the game belong to a full RPG world. The dark and jagged designs of the dungeons make you feel like you are on a real battlefield.

  • One of my favorite features of the game is that there are parry, block and Dodge mechanics in the game. It literally immerses you in the action. These are indispensable features for the rpg world.

After playing for around 5 hours (multiple playthroughs) I’ve gathered some thoughts.

It’s an okayish game right now. It needs more content and a good amount of polish but I’ve encountered no bugs that made it impossible to play. Also I’m giving a positive review because I like the concept and I hope, that there is more to come (more enemies, different locations, and I am especially looking at you Roguelike-mode!)

I hope to come back to this game and find a solid and polished game but for now, here are some things that I would change or improve a little bit and some bugs I’ve encountered.

This is a much more interesting and rewarding game to play than it may appear at first. In fact, my first impression was that the game was relatively simple, and fairly standard. This was anything but correct. It takes a bit of time to get into and really understand what is going on, but that is also part of the idea of the game. You start as a peasant in the middle of a great fugue, everyone has lost their memory, and this factors into many aspects of the gameplay. Items as well as spells and to a slightly lesser extent weapons must be discovered multiple times to completely reveal their description and effects, most of the game is not explained forwardly to the player, it’s left to you to discover how things work. This can be a little intimidating or confusing at times, but it’s an interesting concept.

Wonderful game, worth every single one of the 799 pennies it cost me.

It’s a modern Rogue-like with a quite slow-paced, deliberate combat system that takes a bit to get into.

Basically, swings of your melee weapons have some windup-time and cannot be cancelled and require a little insight into the movement patterns of enemies to connect. Early encounters with ranged foes that love to move just outside your weapons swing (or stab, lunge etc.) may make you exclaim ‘NOT fair!’ but after it clicks for you become an easily dispatched source of XP.

ill answer why you are here first.

no, the game is not worth your 30$ bucks. 15 maybe, 20 tops.

my advise is to wait for more content / mods and patches id say check in over ~6 months again.

alright now into the game.

–settings

just your usual settings menu with a couple of bits and bobs missing.

-missing

*borderless window mode

*control rebinds

*it has anti-aliasing but doesnt mention what kind

-would like to see

*quick restart

*disable text shown on screen (aka gaint pyramid his chattering)

Since my last, long review got a bunch of dislikes I’ll keep this one short.

It ended up not being short though. Oh well. Since the 1.1 update came out it got even longer.

Necropolis looks awesome, sounds awesome, plays average, has no content… unless you stick with it past the first few samey runs, and unlock a ton more more content. The more you play the more shit you unlock for the procedural generator to throw at you, the more secrets get added to the areas you explore, and the deeper into the Necropolis you go the more each subsequent level goes from linear to downright labyrinthian.

The Good

.fun combat style that reminds me of the (souls like) genre but it has fresh and flashy moves that add a little somthing to the combat

.large amounts of customisation despite being in early access (both unique powers and classes mad by having the right powers)

.the variety of areas and permanent upgrades mean that you will progress inch by inch to that final elusive victory

.a new take on the rogue like genre where on death you can keep a few of your powers from your previous run

…its just fun to play

+I like the grafix

+Controls are tight enough

+Rogue-Souls-Like

+Fun game in general

-Ugly menus

-As far as I can tell all assets are from the unity store (type in polygon)

-Weird control mapping (talk with b wtf)

-Terrible sound design

-You cant deactivate the damage numbers, they are ugly and unatmospheric and what is the point when enemys have health bars anyway?

-Procedual Generated but maps are almost the same every time

-Slight screen tearing and no vsynch option

-Glitched out a couple of times (cam kinda got stuck in the wall and i got crushed on a good run - painful)

Eye of Ouroboros

Eye of Ouroboros

Eye of Ouroboros is an action roguelike adventure game set in a mythical state between life and void. Master the heroes fighting styles and the unique perks acquired throughout the journey. The game can be played by 1-4 players.

Co-op Focused

The game design choices are heavily leaned towards coop: less enemies but with more health; level design requires players to stick together; some abilities boost the whole team. Invite up to 3 friends with their choice of heroes which could turn the tide.

Level Based

The sequence of levels will be different for each run. You also have a choice of different rewards you’ll receive when picking the next level.

Bosses

Bosses for every level with their own unique fighting style.

Several Heroes to Choose From

Every hero has their own unique abilities and fighting style which adds replayability and unique combat strategies when playing with friends.

Roguelike

There is no other way to go about it - if you die, you die permanently. However, some of your progress can be turned into rewards that might make future runs easier.

The game is still early in development so its features are subject to change.
