A Journey Through Valhalla

A Journey Through Valhalla

This is a fun game even if you are playing solo. Playing solo is rough because the game was meant for 3 people to co-op. There are some game mechanics I think it needs such as a way to swap out weapons sets during combat and maybe an easier way to loot items. I would also like to see more way to gain experience than just feats. Maybe making skills level as you use them would be a way to go. But, I still enjoyed playing the game, and would recommend it.

I think this game is pretty decent (especially for it being created by 3 people in their spare time) and shows a lot of promise. I’d recommend playing the game with at least one other person as it can be pretty hard solo, but it still provides a pretty enjoyable experience when playing by yourself.

I think this game could benefit from some balancing changes (namely the first boss and the chances of getting better gear, especially for the wizard class) and more content. besides that, this is a pretty cool game.

Infernal Radiation

This game is really something else. The gameplay is conceptually different from anything i’ve ever seen,it is a form of rhytmic bullet hell where you get to attack and defend and must choose wisely everytime before you make a move. The enemy variety is pretty wide and the game also benefits from an intriguing story that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

The current length of the game is somewhere between 3-4 hours and it has a lot of replayability value.I enjoyed it greatly and the price is fairly cheap.

At the time of review I have 5.7 hours on record. This is a difficult rhythm game with RPG elements, where the character progresses between demon encounters and, in order to defeat each demon, has to learn the rhythm of the attacks.

There are NPCs which offer opportunities to level up and purchase items to improve the character’s attributes. Items involving slowing the demon’s attacks are quite useful!

The graphics are effective in reflecting the demon-infested island and the darkness wrought upon it. I particularly like the comic-style text boxes which impart much of the story. The NPC and demon encounters are well-scripted and humorous.

Since my last, long review got a bunch of dislikes I’ll keep this one short.

It ended up not being short though. Oh well. Since the 1.1 update came out it got even longer.

Necropolis looks awesome, sounds awesome, plays average, has no content… unless you stick with it past the first few samey runs, and unlock a ton more more content. The more you play the more shit you unlock for the procedural generator to throw at you, the more secrets get added to the areas you explore, and the deeper into the Necropolis you go the more each subsequent level goes from linear to downright labyrinthian.

The character customization alone makes this game worth the price of admission. But, if you don’t like souls-likes and the honestly pretty generic story and characters don’t entice you, this game is a hard sell. The game is honestly very pretty and the costumes are sick, though. Plus, if you don’t like souls-like games because of the difficulty, this one’s relatively easy when you have an ai companion with you. But real gamers play without a companion after the first playthrough. Anyway, i recommend this game while its on sale for anything above, say, %25.

Pretty nice anime Soulslike. I just finished the main story, played all the depths maps which are some lite equivalent of the Chalices in Bloodborne (except one i guess) and even beat the first of the 3 DLC’s called Hellfire Knight ( i was/am level 159 and it was still F’ing hard).

Apart from the difficulty of the DLC the rest of the game was not really as hard as i expected it to be based on what i read about this game, but very pleasant and fun to play anyway. Pretty similar to Nioh when it comes to enemy placement/ambushes.

Good game, but beware of over-leveling! The more you level up, the more the threats level up and the harder the whole game becomes. If you have an elite or boss who’s always killing you, look to your gear and/or tactics. Leveling up to beat the challenge is NOT the way to go in this game. Just something I learned the hard way.

This game overall was a very nice pleasant surprise , A third person shooter with a few of the ‘‘dark souls’’ gameplay mechanism like rolling around to dodges but controls that just work much better with a mouse and keyboard.

the game is not overly difficult outside of a few specific boss battles , the challenge is very well balanced and you can always crank the difficulty up if you find it too easy also.

checkpoints are common and you always have one right before a boss battle so even if you die you rarely have much to redo and you also don’t lose currency when you die.

Eye of Ouroboros

Eye of Ouroboros

Eye of Ouroboros is an action roguelike adventure game set in a mythical state between life and void. Master the heroes fighting styles and the unique perks acquired throughout the journey. The game can be played by 1-4 players.

Co-op Focused

The game design choices are heavily leaned towards coop: less enemies but with more health; level design requires players to stick together; some abilities boost the whole team. Invite up to 3 friends with their choice of heroes which could turn the tide.

Level Based

The sequence of levels will be different for each run. You also have a choice of different rewards you’ll receive when picking the next level.

Bosses

Bosses for every level with their own unique fighting style.

Several Heroes to Choose From

Every hero has their own unique abilities and fighting style which adds replayability and unique combat strategies when playing with friends.

Roguelike

There is no other way to go about it - if you die, you die permanently. However, some of your progress can be turned into rewards that might make future runs easier.

The game is still early in development so its features are subject to change.

Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition

Nioh 2 – The Complete Edition

Nioh 2 is a must buy for any soulsborne fan or people looking for Ninja type games. It’s way better, and I mean it…than Nioh 1, be it in terms fluidity, game balance, inventory management, combat is more polished and Yokai transformation mechanics is just a cheery on top of a cake. I had a blast going through the game and although the end game farming is kinda rough but it’s not something undoable, if you know the mechanics. As for bosses, Nioh 1 bosses are better lorewise, difficulty wise but Nioh 2 bosses are more fun to fight against. World design is more vibrant than Nioh 1 and to me, it’s even better than Dark Souls. Final rating, 8/10…damn near perfect souls like. Also, don’t buy this game for PvP, it’s non-existant.

Absolutely phenomenal. This game bumped Dark Souls as my favorite of all time with an asterisk that it owes much of its inspiration to the original “Souls-like.”

I see a lot of comments warning not to compare Dark Souls 3 to Nioh 2 because they are “completely different games.” This is a lie. Dark Souls 3 and The Sims are completely different games. Aside from both being Action RPGs, Souls and Nioh have a lot in common:

-Almost identical death system. Lose your experience unless you can touch your grave, keep your items.

Perennial Order

Perennial Order

Perennial Order is a 2D plant horror boss rush, set in an atmospheric Dark Age world plagued by nature-infested horrors.

Explore a mysterious world alone or with a friend, uncover a story through unusual NPC’s, and cut down terrifying eldritch bosses, all in a painterly 2D style.

David vs. Goliath Combat

  • Uncover a unique boss around every corner that will test you in different ways.

  • Intense combat that utilizes twin stick melee controls.

  • One-Hit-Death. Respawn directly at the beginning of an encounter to learn quickly from your actions; spend your time fighting rather than walking.

Captivating 2D Style

  • A painterly 2D art style with a dark fantasy inspiration.

  • Themes and visuals akin to the world designs of titles like Dark Souls and Princess Mononoke.

  • Painstakingly crafted by 1 artist and 1 animator. We are developing the visual identity of Perennial Order through realistic, painterly techniques combined with 2D Spine animation.

Plagued by Nature

  • Immerse yourself in a dreary land where unspeakable horrors roam.

  • Discover Unusual NPCs and unravel more about this mysteriously beautiful world.

  • Explore a rich atmosphere through sounds and score, with musical themes distinct to each boss.

Bonded Journey

  • Experience the entirety of Perennial Order from start to finish with a friend.

  • Start a file with another person, so your playthrough is linked.

  • Local and Online Co-Op.

Key Features

  • Unique Bosses | Different mechanics to adapt to. Lovecraftian and terrifying battles.

  • One-Hit-Death | Every combat choice matters. Yeah

  • Limited UI | Nothing to clog up the screen to add to the atmosphere.

  • Intriguing NPCs and World | A world worth exploring.

  • Weather System | Reactive environment to changing weather.

  • Online and Local Co-Op | Bonded Journey mode. 2 player adventure.

We like to describe Perennial Order as Hollow Knight meets Titan Souls.

Hellpoint

Hellpoint

If there was ever a game that I did not expect to resonate with me so much, it would be Hellpoint. When I tried the demo; The Thespian Feast I thought “Meh it’s okay I guess”, but I decided to take the plunge and bought the full game a couple of days after release to give it a real honest fair shake, and to support a new up and coming developer. And oh my did I fall in love so deeply with this game as it has become one of my all time favourite games ever. Yes it is a Souls-like and yes it is rough around the edges with some balance issues and bugs but it’s one of those games I found myself continuously coming back to and loving every run I do because it always felt fresh and different trying out new builds, routes and seeing the game world change around me all the time as I discover new thing.

(tl;dr version)

This game is legit. It gets a lot more right than it gets wrong. This is your sci-fi Souls that you’ve wanted all along.

–-

(Longer version)

You know how a lot of Souls-likes try, but ultimately kind of fail at really capturing that “Souls” feel? Usually due to overly janky and/or unsatisfying combat, milquetoast level design, tepid atmosphere… there’s always something that’s missing, that makes you think “yeah, no, this just doesn’t cut it”.

Hellpoint… is on point. Despite being crowdfunded project made by an experienced, but small, indie team, and not a high-budget endeavour, it gets a lot more things right than it gets wrong, and is overall on of the better Souls-likes I’ve played.
