Grizzland

Grizzland

Simple but nice little metroidvania

While having all the ingredients needed to brew a decent metroidvania, Grizzland also feels like a breath of fresh air in the genre due to its unusual simplistic (but neat) visual style and fascinating way to reveal the plot to a player.

Probably the only weak side of the game is its length - you can easily complete it 100% within 6-7 hours.

However the cheap price makes it a fair deal.

If what you see in the preview doesn’t turn you off, then go ahead and buy, most likely your gameplay experience won’t disappoint you either.

One Try Tower

One Try Tower

One Try Tower is a reaction-based roguelike horror sidescroller.

You’ll find yourself in a tower consisting of three different locations each of which will have two parts. Locations could be described as library prison and warehouse.

Each part is thirteen floors, seven of which are on the inside and six of which are on the balconies. At the beggining of each part, except for the first one, you’ll find an altar restoring HP and serving as a checkpoint. There will also be a unique boss at the end of each part. You could hear it when you get to the altar of the corresponding part.

I was a backer of this project and have play-tested the early builds before the developer has announced that this game is going to be published by Neowiz. If you really want to see the game that pushes the limitation of stamina-action game mechanics (AKA souls-like), You guys need to play this game. Imagine someone mixed Hyper Light Drifter, Sekiro, 3D Ninja Gaiden, and Tekken in an iron pot and condensed it into 5~8 hour game. Definitely one of the best action games in 2021, even without the context that this game was developed by one person for five years.

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

|

Is this game a masterpiece? No, I don’t think so, at least not for everyone. It is a very combo-focused, fast action RPG. The pixel art is good (your character and enemies are quite small), but the combat is something to get used to. You won’t get very far with just normal attacks, you really need to learn those combos and execute them lightning fast and with good aim. If you like that, and normal button mashing combat is too easy or repetitive for you, then take a closer look at this game. You will not be disappointed.

The game has a nice noir vibe to it. The story so far is interesting and mysterious. I like the liquid mixing mechanics which has a nice amount of combinations. Overall the game is easy and fun to play but i would really like to have a map so i can find my way easier.

I like this game. I’m looking forward to carrying on, exploring the city, and completing quests. I did read the dev response to another review where there was discussion of a map being put in. Do I have to find the map first? Or did the map not get put into the game yet? That would be my one disappointment so far. Not having a map. If a dev could respond and lemme know what’s up with that, it would be appreciated. Cool game though.

It’s sort of like Streets of Rage, I think. Never played that game, but I’m familiar with it’s type: a sort of 2.5D brawler where you shuffle along a mostly 2D plane, but can slowly shift axis. Your attacks mostly only hit along the same axis, though there’s some wiggle room, thankfully. Animations are good, mostly, but combat can start to feel pretty tedious at times, especially since you can’t run from encounters at all, so if you’re struggling to beat a mid-boss, as I was, you have to fight every enemy leading up to them over and over again. Get’s pretty grating. Furthermore, because a lot of evasion depends on positioning, and the basic movement is really slow, it can get quite hard to evade when there are a lot of enemies on screen. You have a spear twirl that can clear out people right next to you, but if it doesn’t connect, you’re basically certain to get counter-attacked in the brief window you’re locked in after the spin. And if you get knocked down with enemies nearby, you’d be better off just laying there because you’re likely to get utterly crushed the second you stand before given any chance to defend yourself. Just a bit of a grind. Not the worst game, but not really something I can get into.

Gachimuchi Life Simulator

Honestly, I expected more from the game, I didn’t like the music and there’s little gacha in common, the world didn’t like it either, it’s kind of open but at the same time empty

Yes, sometimes I want to spend an evening playing a game dedicated to my guilty pleasure. Perhaps someday I would like to have all the gachimuchi games in my library. As for this particular one, one of the advantages is minimalistic graphics, which allows you to run the game on any computer, the presence of game achievements, and my favorite sounds from the gachi. Nevertheless, the developer still has a lot of work to do.

Arc Wizards

Arc Wizards

A simple, straightforward arcade game that makes for a fun playthrough. The controls are responsive (with shooting slowing down your movement, so it requires at least a touch of strategy), and the graphics are crisp 16-bit stile, with some animatino. Enemies appear when you advance beyond a certain point, meaning the best plan is to frequentl stop and deal with enemies before advancing. This causes a slower pacing than your average run-n-gun title, but not so much that the game isn’t fun. It’s entirely possible to trigger a few too many enemies and find yourself overwhelmed or having to do some tricky manneuvering.

I don’t know for sure if all the positive ratings here are paid ratings, but it seems like it could be the case.

About the game:

No tutorial. Very repetitive gameplay: there are like 4 or 5 different types enemies over and over again, no bosses, always the same items (potions), lame ending and the spells are pretty useless except for maybe healing. The levels are super repetitve, and the jump mechanics are not that good either (you often get stuck at the edges of platforms above you so you have to do the jump again). To be honest, I only finished this game (took me around 90 minutes) because I hoped there was some kind of final boss, but I was disappointed.
