Bigscreen Beta

Bigscreen Beta

This has been the app I have used the most since I bought an oculus quest. I don’t really like the price of the movies that they offer to watch. You end up paying $4.99 to watch a virtual movie that is in 3d. I can’t get into this 3d movie stuff, makes my eyes feel crossed. What I really really enjoyed about Big Screen is the fact I can use their remote desktop and play movies from my giant collection at home. I have been hosting 80’s/90’s movies for people to join and watch since the COVID-19 pandemic started, and have been watching 3-5 movies per week. Sometimes people pop in for a moment to see what is going on and others will stay through most of the movie. People for the most part have been quiet and respectful in the movies. For the ones that come in trolling, there is an option to kick them from the room. After this they can’t rejoin. This is oddly enough a great opportunity to talk to people from around the world using the internet. You can go to the lobby that is set up like a real theater with a snack bar popping popcorn and all the movie theaters to select which movies you want to watch. Here is where several people will congregate and socialize. They just need to add a friends list. I have met some really cool people on here. When you host a theater, they give you several different options on how the theaters look. This ranges from a simple small home theater to a retro style theater. There is even a space station theater where stuff you throw will float because of less gravity. By the way you can throw objects like tomatoes, drinks, and popcorn at stuff. Not bad at all for a free app

I’ve used this app virtually every day, It has become my go-to app for all things movie and video related. I’ve recommended it to friends who have vr headsets, and visitors have seen my personal home theator with the help of this app.

For me what sets this aside from many other apps is the fact that I can lay in bed and watch movies, every other app seems to limit the view for a sitting position…. This sucks for long sessions. The other feature I enjoy is the single handed use. Many others try to force you to use both hands to get around. Let me ask and devs who might be reading this: How many tv’s, dvd players have you purchased that came with 2 remotes each? Perhaps 1 for play, pause, and a second remote for the arrows. With that logic, you’d have 4 remotes for your two devices. On that subject; how many people have you heard say “i wish my tv forced me to use several devices before I could watch netflix on it”?

Dudes on a Map: Virtual Grid Paper

Dudes on a Map: Virtual Grid Paper

I can’t say enough about how great this tool is for helping with running my game! It’s simple to pick up and start playing with, without having to study tutorial videos. Easily import your own maps in jpeg form, and you’re on your way to having a great time with friends. There are some ‘fancy’ features, like having 2 different types of fog (one standard and one for secret areas you don’t want to accidentally reveal), marking up areas of effect, initiative tracker, add in your own monster/NPC tokens, and a dice roller (with the option of using symbol dice for different game systems). While these are great, you don’t need to use them if you don’t want to. I tired of trying to learn how to use other systems, and my experience of using dudes has convinced me that I don’t need to while still having a great time with my friends.

Been playing since the earliest Alpha releases. Also, for respectful reasons of this review, I did not get it for free but I am close to the creator so, anyone reading this, perhaps you’ll feel that there’s bias BUT, I will happily preface it at the top here first.

Dudes On A Map, for me, can be described as the easiest non-tech proficient program for playing RPG’s online with your friends. While some may say “Scoff, there’s not nearly as many tools and all these bells and all those whistles.” I would reply to them “Good, I don’t want all that and, to be honest, I don’t want to take a small 101 course just to get my games running.”

Aesoteric Collection

Aesoteric Collection

9 Æsoteric games, the result of many experimental worlds brought to conclusion at last.

Each of these belong in a common oniric universe, where you’re confronted with a diverse array of A.R.G. consoles, each having a uniquely different game in its system but sharing a common dark origin.

The Æsoteric Collection

EGREGORE / ZYX

tmOD / Vlast

Oneiroi / tmPaint

Apex Byte Reeling / Wrecc

Noahs Ark Demake

The experiences contained within this collection are calling. It is a mystery if they even grew to exist as a published format, cursed as they are, belonging somewhere between the discarded and the dreamt. Some originally forgotten demos, others accidents of evil destiny and spiteful development, even the consoles in which they belong are not a thing of public knowledge…

Until now.

HANDMADE CARPROGRAM

HANDMADE CARPROGRAM

Develop software with fun, game-like programming.

With this application, there’s no need for you to know any technical terms.

You’ll set up things like houses and tools, without using hardly any words, just like a simulation game.

This becomes an act of programming, and as a result, you’ll be able to develop software.

“Programs are toys.”

You may wonder what it means to think like a program.

Some people might even see the word in English and scream “Ahhhh! English!!! Run awaaay!!”

In that case, why not think of it as “playing with building blocks (programing)” instead?

The block structure you make runs as software. The only resource you need is this application.

I’ll say it once more.

“Programs are toys.”

Now’s your chance to assemble some toys.

This isn’t simply a program (toy).

This isn’t simply a game.

Through this toy (game), you can develop software.

Once you’ve developed something, you can use the attached CARPEXECUTABLE.exe (HANDMADE CARPEXECUTABLE)

(It is in the [C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\HANDMADE CARPROGRAM\CARPROGRAM] folder) to execute your creation, and even distribute it to others.

(“Sample” is in it.)

(Icon is able to be changed too)

Create games and software of your own imagining by thinking outside the box, and then release them out into the world.

Note: CARPEXECUTABLE.exe (HANDMADE CARPEXECUTABLE) that comes as part of these files is able to be redistributed on its own. Icon changes are also possible.

You can also make image files of your creations and show them to others to receive praise.

You’re welcome to use this product for videos and livestreams!!

(Though I’m sorry to ask it, please do so responsibly.)

HANDMADE CARPROGRAM on Steam

Homebrew - Patent Unknown

Homebrew - Patent Unknown

Edit: Updated at 4,500 hours of play time

Intro:

This game is basically a watered down 3D modeling program with a bit of gameplay. The world is mostly empty, save for a few interesting areas to drive around and some player made areas. However, the gameplay is not the reason why I play. I play for the building. I have yet to find a sandbox building game with a better builder. It is an extremely powerful tool, letting you build incredibly complex and detailed creations.

Builder:

The building in Homebrew is done with a few simple tools. You create plates, pipes and shapes, then modify and move them to create the shapes and designs you want. There are servos, hinges, and springs with a parenting tool that allow you to create complex moving parts and vehicle suspensions. There are several prebuilt parts like engines, seats, and wheels that you use to make your creations work. The logic system is also just as detailed. Every working part has a logic box in the tuner that can be hooked up with other logic boxes to behave in whatever way you want.

Update Dev 2015: The v14 patch is here! This is a big one. The devs basically remade the game in Unity 5. Some of the systems are entirely re-done and it is overall a big improvement. I’ll highlight a few great points below, but this isn’t an exhaustive list of all the great changes / addition.

  • much more flexible building tools (like being able to adjust pipes after welding them to your vehicle, etc).

  • you can save vehicles / sub-assemblies and spawn / weld them in other projects :)

  • flexible plating / skin system: It’s only the start right now but there are already some easy to use parts for making body panels that far surpass the rigid old dog plates from v13.
