Enemy On Board

Enemy On Board

This is my new favourite game. Currently I have over 500+ hours on this game so I can give my review with some experience.

PROS:

1. Game is short, can finish a game between 2-10 minutes.

2. There is a lot of social deception in this game. Similar to other games like Avalon, Secret Hitler, Among Us, Project Winter, you will need to work together to win as crew.

3. This is an Early Access game, and the developers are adding new content all the time.

4. There is a high skill cap in both reading people and combat in the game.

Before I say anything else I want to make it clear, I wanted to test the new controls out before leaving a review for it, that’s why I made a different review for the old patch.

Before the WASD update review: I liked the game with its unique movement system in the genre, the game had it’s own charm in that it wasn’t just mindless combat or just heres some randoms figure out who the non innocent are then vote them out. Crew could actually fight back against aliens and while there was moments where the crew or my partner were counting on me to 1v2 or 1v4 I managed to overcome it and feel good in my accomplishment. Overall it was 9/10 for me, fun, interactive and unique in the genre.

Split or Steal

Split or Steal

Seeing as the dev likes to ask for reviews so much, here it is.

Summary

A prisoners dilemma game, with features to help you earn more money, unlock better cosmetics and achieve higher ranks on the leaderboards and tailor your play style. The game itself, good concept and great ideas. Had a lot of potential but it was just poorly executed. The community made the game, not the game made the community.

Pros

  • Interesting take of a game on the prisoner’s dilemma

  • Great community

Split or steal. For as long as you play this game, you won’t be forgetting the dilemma and the effect it has on people any time soon. Except now, we aren’t “prisoners” confined to a one-time choice. So make use of that information to breed trust, rather than sowing mistrust. You have 2 minutes in high stakes to show that you’re not like everyone else. That you’re willing to sit down and talk if the other person is willing to. And then you talk. Have you ever felt the satisfaction of reassuring a new player that’s maybe a little bit paranoid, that some people really can be trusted? If you instantly split every round turning into a bot every hour for every play session, you will never know how it feels. If you only steal in high stakes, you will never know how it feels. To make someone’s day brighter. To make someone feel a positive emotion. The cash is virtual, the people are not. This is not an inherently competitive game, so don’t treat it like one where someone has to lose, or you need to try your hardest to win. Because if you do that then what makes this game great is diminished, until more and more people do it, and the appeal disappears.

MINDNIGHT

MINDNIGHT

I’ve put enough time into this game to understand a lot its strengths and weaknesses. This is a social deduction game that was balanced to favor one side in many modes, enabling the game to lean on that mechanic. It enables a unique type of gameplay that I find very engaging. The devs threw a ton of thought and patience in the core mechanics, and they’re incredibly active in the game’s discord server. They regularly receive feedback and interact with the community.

Unfortunately, the game is unfixable.

Real player with 108.0 hrs in game

A simple hidden role game, and free to play, at that. The gameplay itself is very good - not perfect, but it’s still in development - but the community is VERY bad, and I consider this to be partly the fault of the developers. Not ENTIRELY their fault, but….

For example, the report system. You can report people for harrassment or abuse or spam. That’s good. So what’s the problem? You can also report people for cheating, or for gamethrowing. If a person is reported often enough - for any offense - they are automatically banned by a bot and must appeal to the mods. This encourages bullies to sling reports at people for perceived offenses that didn’t occur, giving them even more power and generally fueling a negative atmosphere.

Goose Goose Duck

Goose Goose Duck

Like most who play Goose Goose Duck, I began by playing Among Us! It was not long into playing I met others and began playing with VoiceChat, then began playing the modded versions of Among Us - before I knew it - regular/no voice Among Us suddenly seemed stale and lifeless.

And then I heard about something called ‘Proxy Chat’, which means you can talk to other players while you are on the ship, but only if you are within eyesight of someone/within their proximity. There is a program you download separate from Among Us that allowed you to use this feature… but unfortunately it was very buggy, unstable, and would never work, resulting in many people just repeating “can you hear me?” or “I cannot hear anyone.”

Dead project. Developers had a good concept in mind bud it’s been almost a year or so, and little to any functionality actually works.

Uploaded a .obj of Banjo (my thick lord) and couldn’t do anything except just stare at it in the editor lol.

Don’t waste the harddrive space. This honestly seems like a scam.

Unfortunate Spacemen

Unfortunate Spacemen

This game has everything a among us player wants plus sooooooo much more.

First of all this game is free and I mean free not loot boxs or pay to win mechanics, there are somewhat overpriced cosmetics but they are purely cosmetic and ad no gameplay advantage.

There is a story mode which is not bad, a survival mode that’s pretty meh, and shapeshifter the reason everyone plays without going into a long wall of text One of you is a monster and everyone’s name is hidden as a color. Instead of scaresolution for example you see blue the monster looks human until he transforms and the twist he can change color.

Real player with 117.5 hrs in game

Unfortunate spacemen is where you play as one of many unfortunate spacemen/women stuck on a station with a shapeshifting monster that’s out to screw you over one way or another. (there are other gamemodes, however the game and this review will revolve mostly around the shapeshifter gamemode)

Pros:

  • Very large amount of replayability, it has a justifiable amount of maps and weapons that show up in random spots, as do the objectives.

  • Fantastic OST, the recently added menu music is something I can’t help but jam out to (I miss the old music though :( )

Nightfall

Nightfall

A fun mafia-inspired game to play with a lobby of friends.

The different roles and ability unlocks give way for a TONNE of play styles and strategies.

An interesting take on the social deception genre, the various equipment unlocks you get from completing quests (or on game start depending on settings), add a lot of depth to the game.

Quests have their own minigame which on completion give you equipment points that allow you to unlock things such as smoke screen, invisiblity or boots of speed.

One of my favourites is the ability to impersonate another player entirely for the round.

I have always enjoyed each game of this I have played, and it is only in early access!

Accident On the Simple Rd

Accident On the Simple Rd

I was waiting for a match for an hour. And no one came, so I was all alone until one person joined. But they left cause it wasn’t enough people. I’m not going to say I don’t recommend it. I still want to play it.

Real player with 4.2 hrs in game

The game is simple, fix the bus or catch the maniacs. There is an accident though, there are not enough people playing! There are not enough people playing at a time. The map is too large for only four people, I haven’t seen the bus repaired even once! I wish to see the bus fix ending.

Edit: The bus fix ending is truly anticlimactic, go for the bus fix ending at your own discretion

Deceit

Deceit

As much fun as I’ve had with the game, I would not recommend it to anyone. This is toxicity at its finest. People grouped up in a discord call tend to just randomly kill you without you even being the infected. I’m guessing it’s because they feel powerful and I qoute ‘at least I have friends’. From a competitive side the matchmaker is really horrible. You get thrown into games with people who are teamed up, and I’m not talking teamed up as in infected teamed up. Literally you can play solo against a team of 5 people who are in a discord call, and your fate is in their hands they can do whatever they want to you. If I play solo , other people should play solo too. I’m saying this because it would avoid stat padding, and it defeats the reason of having stats, because people who ‘have friends’ are gonna have the best stats in this game. I don’t feel like it’s up to me as the end-user to have to record and send/e-mail evidence of toxicity to anyone. I want to have fun while playing a game, I don’t want to take the hassle of being an administrator and catching toxic players who stat pad with their friends through discord calls. Until you people(the developers) fix this issue, it’s not going to be a fun/competitive game, at least not for people who ‘don’t have friends’ and want to play this game solo. Believe me I have nothing against playing with friends, but make is so that it’s teams of people versus teams of other people, don’t make me suffer as a solo player because other people decided to play with their friends and communicate to each other who’s the infected and who’s the innocent through discord.

[EDIT]

I had since been unbanned from when I wrote this review and was incredibly excited for the Halloween update, however I am still going to have to downvote this game once again as the newest update is horrid. Here are my thoughts regarding the update:

Upon reading these patch notes, I will be quitting Deceit for good.

Making ranked pay2play (you must own 3 of 4 terrors to queue up, meaning you have to buy the Werewolf or Vampire to even play ranked) is the most unbelievably stupid thing I have ever read as it is the only real way to experience this game, normals are filled with brand new players and people who don’t talk on microphone which defeats the purpose of the game. I say this as someone who owns the Vampire DLC, however I refuse to support a model that prohibits any and all players from being included in the REAL game.
