OlliOlli
The Skateboarding game we deserve.
Detailed yet simple control scheme weighing importance to timing while remaining fair and not very dexterity heavy. An immense emphasis on the joystick offers a myriad of tricks to try out for players but I’ve only been able to try out a handfull of them by the time I even finished all the levels. Trying out more tricks makes sense because your score depends on what trick you perform but given the dexterity requirement, it’s gonna take more than a hand full of tries to remember and make use of them in the game. That is my only complaint but then again, I can only spare so much time for gaming these days, that’s just me.

Reminiscing the age of Tony Hawk’s Pro skater, OlliOlli is an objective based skateboarding game that re-imagines the 3D formulae into a retro 2D side-scroller. Originally developed for the PS Vita by Roll7 – the windows port up-scales the game whilst offering a similar experience. But does it grind past its contemporaries or face-plant into failure?
The games primary feature is a single player career mode. This is split across 5 distinct areas each divided into 5 courses. Your tasked with completing each course to unlock the next with increasing difficulty as you progress.

Skator Gator
SKATOR GATOR was just minding his own business when those greedy capitalist robots started ruining his swamp!
They’re draining the peat bog just to make mini golf courses!?
Skate across their oil pipelines towards the city to advocate for change and cause some mayhem along the way.
High octane, lane-based platforming challenges!
The pipelines stretch far and wide, with gator eggs scattered all about, robots trying to take you out, obstacles blocking your path, and much more that’ll truly challenge your mad skateboarding skills!
20+ levels to unlock and play!
It’s a long way to the city - Greenjamin has multiple levels to skate through in three different areas, plus there’s a few secret levels too…
Multiple gators to release into the swamp!
Rescue all those gator eggs and you’ll be able to change your look to fit your needs! Gotta look your best too, yeah?
Special developer times on each level!
We know you can skate the skate, but are you a rad enough skater that can beat our times? Think again, gator!

OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood
Even better than first one!
OlliOlli2: Welcome to Olliwood is a hard as hell sidescroll arcade skate game, which is probably the best “skate” game you can get on Steam.
I’m a huge fan of the first one aswell, but in my opinion the developers managed to make a great game even better.
Here’s why:
The positive :
- An outstanding soundtrack.
The first one had a great soundtrack, too and OlliOlli2 doesn’t disappoint in the slightest with it’s choice of music. It’s a mixture of electronica, glitch & and hiphop (artists like CidRim or Kyle Cook) and does just fit so well to game. One of the reasons I like that game so much!

Pros:
- Great, responsive controls
+Lots of content
+Looks great
+Few glitches (other than some clipping with death animations that are mentioned below)
+Very difficult, yet rewarding enough to keep you going
+Very addictive
- Has free-play mode for all levels
Cons:
-
$17 might be a little bit much to ask for a 2d side-scrolling game, but value isn’t really a concern if you end up liking the game and pumping hours upon hours into it (like I am likely to do)
-
Death animations are hilarious the first few times but are ultimately on the glitchy side with some clipping, and obvious disregard of physics, although intentional, I would’ve prefered somehting a little less over-the-top

Epic Skater 2
Great Game.

Last review was of the early access version. Only right to do the full version of the game. This game is Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2D basically. And by basically, I mean WTF I played this 5 hours straight a day?? The game is great, every problem/ bug thrown at the devs they fixed at a resonable timeframe. Achievements are good to go after, and 100 of them. Devs listen on their discord. For an eternity of re-playability, get yourself a THPS/ THPS2 soundtrack playlist and go on a mix of nostalgia and new age gaming wave to really put yourself in a fucking early 2000’s gaming nuthouse.

First impression: wow I dig the artstyle and music.
Then comes the “story” text that makes up a story about why the protagonist has to go to the end of the stages, the moment after it tells you that it says “what are you waiting for, no seriously there is no story the whole point of this game is to make you rage”… Sigh. Those are contradicting sentences and it’s not generally a good idea to tell your consumers that the point of your game is to make them rage when you pay for a video game.
So I go about the first 5 level and think alright this game has a few things that could be improved upon but so far it’s good enough for what I paid (got it in a bundle) then comes level 6 of world 1 and they introduce a pink line. The goal of the game is to gravity shift through obstacles and this pink line acts as a floor or ceilling depending on where you shift from. The thing is that you have to press up or down again on the line and it would have made sense to just pass through once you input that command but instead, you just flip on it and have to press it again to pass through. That is a design flaw in my oppinion because after like 5 minute of gameplay you changed the rules where I had to input 1 command to dodge and incomming obstacle (well from 0 to 1) and made it that it became 0-3 commands per obstacle. In a runner, this is too much information that has to be made every 2 seconds and makes the game unplayable, I would have to do the whole stage per section while dying endlessly to learn the layout of the stage and execute the commands accordingly. And that is within 5 minute of gameplay, if it would be the last mechanic to learn it would have been fair but the second mechanic? Nah. There is plenty of better game in the genre, that doesn’t use unfair or poorly designed mechanics to “make you rage”. Save your money.
