Through Abandoned: The Forest

Through Abandoned: The Forest

The long awaited sequel to “Abandoned” The Underground City" has arrived on STEAM…and it’s ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC ! ! ! This will keep you glued to your computer for a very long time…you’ve been warned…

This second installment of the “Through Abandoned” series is even more impressive than the first: The navigation of the environment is simple enough for a “newbie” to instantly pick up the computer’s mouse and instinctively know how to navigate and explore the multitude of environments in The Forest. The INVENTORY system and its operation in particular, is VERY ORIGINAL, and was just an all-around GREAT idea to put in a game like this! Like the first chapter of this series, the ambient is quite gripping, making it very easy for the Player to become totally immersed in The Forest…

I remember playing the first game on Kongregate long ago. And I remember how much of a shitstorm it created due to the accusations of plagiarizing Mat Skutnik, so much so that said author had to comment on it’s page giving it a recomendation.

I also remember it’s less than stellar sequels, with puzzles, which cemented the MatSkut analogy due to the first one being blatantly inspired by “the loop”. I also remember that I commented on said sequel trying to explain why it was so poorly recieved (“the loop” came in 3rd, making people realize it was not what the series was going to be about, whereas chambers came in second, and the loop’s puzzles were more organic and intuitive, whereas chambers were a bit too blatantly just gotten straight out of a puzzle book and specially the chess one simply didn’t make sense in context.)

A Time Paradox

A Time Paradox

A Time Paradox is a puzzle game where you look for a way out that does not create a paradox. Each move matters, the goal is to reach each level exit without being seen by someone from the past (mostly yourself !). Be aware not to block a future your-self ! Anticipation and planning are key skills that will help you go through all the levels.

The game have a single player story mode of about 80 levels, a 2 players cooperative mode, and multiple multiplayer mini games to share good time with friends !

A Time Paradox already hooked hundreds of players on Android, but only the PC version will give you high level of comfort for multiplayer.

Twelve Minutes

Twelve Minutes

Story? Starts out strong. Sadly, it doesn’t stay there.

Gameplay? Most of the playthrough, I think it’s fairly clear what you need to do to advance in the story. But then it gets less and less clear to the point it can turn into trial and error.

Good ending? Sigh.

Famous celebs doing voicework that totally anonymous voice actors probably could have done just as well and for a lot cheaper? In spades!

Halfway through this game, maybe even 3 quarters of the way through, I was impressed and it was an easy recommendation. By the end, I was frustrated for all the reasons mentioned above and lamenting how much I’d paid to feel that way.

When considering movies and games such as Groundhog Day, Edge of Tomorrow, and Katana Zero - all of which involve replaying moments in time - they limit how much of the repetition to showcase before switching gears and focusing on how the loops change instead. These changes are often significant, which imbues these stories with more textured and entertaining content.

Twelve Minutes takes the opposite approach. The entire game unfolds in a tiny apartment where there isn’t much to do, and the changes between most loops are minor. Meanwhile, you have to bear the full brunt of the time loop’s repetitive forces, as you relive the same conversations and events over and over again. The dialogue-skip option offers little comfort, as its reach only extends to the ends of currently-spoken sentences.

ANOTHER EDEN

ANOTHER EDEN

This is actually the 2nd time I’ve started this game. I first played this game on mobile when it first launched on mobile. This was during the launch period when Mariel was considered the best 5star and Toova and Mighty were strong offense. Things have changed a lot since then. I lost my mobile account because they did not have a google link at that time. So I’m literally starting from the beginning.

The only reason I’m willing to do this is because of this game’s permanent content system. All events are retained permanently. For every other gatcha game I’ve ever played, I never see myself as a returning player. So this is the best thing I want to praise about Another Eden. I really like the permanent content and in my opinion, this makes it far better than all the other gatcha games. Just this point alone.

Another Eden is a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross with some members of the original team (like Masato Kato and Yasunori Mitsuda) onboard, a love letter to jRPGs of the 90s with a modern feel.

The game itself is massive and is similar in scope to live-service MMOs, except Another Eden is a purely single-player 2.5D jRPG. New story content for it is still being released on a regular basis, expanding it even more with each new update.

=GAMEPLAY=

The gameplay here is of a classic turn-based jRPG with random encounters and limit breaks (called Another Force here). The biggest difference from the classics is that this game has gacha mechanics for acquiring additional characters, each of which has their own set of story quests. The amount of stones for pulls the game gives its players is pretty generous though, the pulls contain only characters and nothing else, additional styles or class upgrades for owned characters can be unlocked through farming certain in-game resources instead of pulling for them, and the characters that can be unlocked as rewards for story progression can be quite powerful as well, especially the ones from ‘Tales of’ and ‘Persona 5’ collaborations. Unlike character banners, all the story and crossover events don’t expire (except for the most recent Chrono Cross collaboration, which has a 5-year license, but hopefully they’ll be able to extend it).

No Time

This game has so much possibility. It’s so much fun, with the free roam option, it makes the game even better. Personally, ive completed act 1 and 2, and when act 3 comes out… this game will be awesome!

Pros:

  • Free roaming: Just the ability to free roam is just amazing. Other time travel games don’t (usually) have free roaming, which this game does.

*The Growth of Mankind: from 1750-present, the evolution of mankind is unbelievable.. you can go see how the town was, is, and will be!

*Seeing yourself: If you go to a date you’ve already been to, you can see the exact steps you’ve taken in that year. Just do NOT get too close!

This game is really going to go far. It is a very interesting concept for a game! I love how the map changes when you time travel. You feel like you’re really time traveling! You can even see your past self reenact all of your actions! I accidentally left a Fusion Cell in 2014 and I saw myself leave them on the ground and I flew away to 1885! Very very addicting game. Especially with the hover conversion. It makes it a lot easier to time travel. I rate this 11/10. I wonder if someone will make a mod where it turns the DeLorean into the one from Back to the Future. And turn the Sir. Atom into a Mr. Fusion! If you’re a really intense Back to the Future fan like I am, this game is definitely the game for you.

Original War

Original War

Brilliant game! Really well done RTS with RPG elements, with similarities to the Jagged Alliance or Commandos series. It felt a little slow paced and odd initially, but it quickly grew on me.

Instead of “building” infantry units in barracks like most other RTS games you have to work with the units you have. You’re always outnumbered, and to make up for it you must focus on resource management (gathering crates and building oil and siberite refineries), research and upgrades, and of course you have to plan your attacks so that you don’t lose units. It makes the game more exciting, involving and harder, and for people like me it adds a ton of replay value, since I wanted to beat the game with no characters losses. They won’t “resurrect”, so if you lose an important character you will miss out of dialogue, and you have to pick a weaker generic character and train it.

Real player with 148.0 hrs in game

One of the most fun and conceptually interesting RTS games I’ve ever played. It’s an Original War in more than name.

The Good Things:

Good mix of RTS and RPG mechanics. Humans are a limited resource, they do not respawn and you do not receive more than you start with. Each character can gain experience in 4 classes and can change between classes at any time in the appropriate building, retaining his experience. Some things (construction, vehicles, turrets) can be automated, removing the need for a human pilot, but computer-controlled entities are slower, shabbier and do a lot less damage than those controlled by a skilled human operator. You must always find a balance between risking irrepleaceable human staff and wasting resources on suboptimal AI control.
