RESTLESS SOUL

RESTLESS SOUL

RESTLESS SOUL! is a single-player comedy adventure game

Okay, then. Let’s start over…

RESTLESS SOUL is an epic journey where you play as a soul who has just arrived in the great beyond and is trying to return to life. However, that journey has caught the attention of the EVIL DR. KRULL and his EVIL ARMY…

In order to escape their pursuit, you’ll need to use your ghostly reflexes to survive bullet-hell battles and rely on whatever help your fellow souls will offer along the way.

Only after visiting all 8 TOWERS to collect their keys, defeating all 8 BOSSES and their NUMEROUS MINIONS, walking across 14 AREAS and TOWNS, and chatting it up OVER 100 OTHER SOULS will you be able to find the portal and escape the afterlife.

Nope, not at all! But we do promise it will be a lot of FUN!

I mean, just look at all these cool features:

  • Enjoy a soulful story full of pretentious and sometimes comedic quotes about life and death.

  • Explore the mysterious AFTERLIFE and unlock hidden secrets as you find your way back to the land of the living.

  • Meet a large cast of “colorful” 2D souls in a 3D world.

  • Master bullet-hell combat with ARPG elements. Use your skills to dodge and shoot at the right time.

  • Battle dozens of henchmen and leaders of an evil army with deadly motives.

  • Solve clever puzzles that might have you scratching your head, but will leave you feeling super smart.

  • Use your phone to keep track of your game’s progress, or take a bomb selfie.

  • Listen to an original soundtrack of boppin’ tunes to rock out to in each new area.

  • Rescue hidden souls, trapped in secret rooms.

  • Special cameo appearance by the one-and-only, Grim Reaper.

  • Pet a talking dog!

Sure did, Woof! Players can expect to see a lot more of you throughout the adventure.

THE CORRIDOR

THE CORRIDOR

Incredibly simple concept for a game that manages to not only create different puzzles to solve but also leading you on a fun and quirky adventure to push every last button out of spite for the narrator. If you’ve ever played The Stanley Parable, this is a game that’ll bring back fond memories and create new ones that you’ll love to go back to! From going rogue and disobeying the narrator, to meeting a cardboard man with a cardboard plan, there’s bound to be something that brings a smile to your face and gets you laughing and having a good time! Highly recommended, honestly one of the funnest games I’ve played in awhile and it really deserves a chance!

Boodunnit

Boodunnit

Boodunnit, what to say that hasn’t already been said?

Graphics/Art 10/10

Gameplay 5/10

Controls 3/10

This is a really cute game but it is kinda hard to love. Boodunnit has a nice premise and nice mechanics but it feels like it’s incomplete. Sure, it’s a free game and I shouldn’t be harking on it too hard but I have to. I would gladly pay a few dollars to support the devs and help make Boodunnit better.

Camera and Levitation issues have been talked to death so I won’t talk too much about it. However, I feel that most of the issues talked about by people could be alleviated by simply putting the control of levitation on the arrow keys instead of the mouse. That way, you wouldn’t be spinning your mouse around trying to see and control an abject at the same time. Furthermore, it would allow for more control over levitating object which would be nice. Wonder why the Play Testers didn’t say anything. With a group that big, certainly a few of them, if not all of them, would’ve found the controls as frustrating as 90% of the player base does.

The overall art style and aesthetic of the game is gorgeous, the story line is intriguing and kept me interested so that alone would make me recommend.

However, the controls are sometimes frustrating especially when you play as either the rat or pigeon. Moving items is difficult as you have no way of knowing where they are being placed or how you can move them smoothly, you are still able to move stuff and complete the game just with a little difficulty. The camera was also awkward to move at times and did have the tendencies of giving me motion sickness with how janky the movements were.

Citizens of Earth

Citizens of Earth

Rarely have I ever been graced with a Game I would consider Perfect.

With the recent failures and patches of games, its outstanding to see a game as amazingly perfect as Citizens of Earth.

But like many things my opinion can be taken worth a grain of salt, what matters to you is how much that salt is worth to you?

So if you enjoy RPG’s like Earthbound and Chrono Trigger, and games inspired by Pokémon, this game is a must have and a contender for Game of the Year of 2015.

If you didn’t know, Nintendo doesn’t show much love to the Mother and Earthbound series, only porting Earthbound to the Wii u due to the demands of fans.

Do you love Earthbound? Well, let me tell you in advance: Citizens of Earth isn’t Earthbound, even though it tries to be.

Despite that, I had a ton of fun and still think it’s worth playing, though there are some design flaws that weigh its positives down. The game has some really great graphics, enjoyable music and dialog, and lots of fun in style. I will run through a quick overview and then into some negatives of the game.

The game is an old-fashioned 2D RPG where you play as the Vice President of the whole world. He was just recently put into office with the main President, but then some absurd events begin happening very quickly. The story unveils itself slowly, in a haphazard manner, but you eventually learn just about everything that has happened, and it is funny along the way.

Dinky Dungeon

Dinky Dungeon

Dinky Dungeon is an absurd arena shooter game with a (relatively) charmingly ugly style. All the sounds in the game are recorded and engineered by a single guy and a cat. Yes, finally I found a chance to give a role to my cat in this game!

Story

You and your grandfather start a dungeon business for trapping evil creatures away from the town. You are the muscles and your grandfather is the brain. You have to deal with the problems whenever your grandfather calls you. You can be sure that he causes a lot of problems. There will be 21 levels with different quests, while you improve your small dungeon with your grandfather.

Gameplay

It is mostly kill whatever you see on sight. But at the start of each level you will be given some quests. For example: kill 30 goblins, dismantle the traps, protect the crate shipment, solve the puzzle mechanisms, slay the goddesses or bosses, destroy the nests.

As you kill creatures and complete the quests, you will earn experience and you will be able to improve your character.

Giants, minotaur, skeletons, trolls, goblins, bandits, falcons, slimes, lich lords are some of the enemies you will encounter with.

List of features

  • Scenario mode with 21 levels, and endless arena modes

  • Absurdly unique and fun arena shooter gameplay

  • Remarkable graphics and sound effects

  • Character progression with various abilities and weapons

  • Various enemies with different features

  • Boss fights

  • Lots of quests

  • Live leaderboards and achievements

  • A hell of a grandfather

Suspicious Downpour

Suspicious Downpour

It’s a very short and relatively straightforward game, for the most part. There is very little actual gameplay involved and most of what you need to do is hinted at through either on-screen tips or the titles of the books in your tent. However, the key things you need to do, as well as how to do them, are not always obvious, so some players may find it a little frustrating to get to the game’s ending.

The developer has written a guide to tell how to earn all of the achievements, which is great as it gives you a bit more information on what you need to do in the game. Earning the achievements is very easy and you can gain them all in a single play-through.

Real player with 2.0 hrs in game

Firstly, the game is incredibly short. Most of my game time is due to idle. There honestly isn’t even much to do in the game, you basically just look around and shine a flashlight in the dark (and throw sandwiches). There are a few items that you can mouse over and read their descriptions. You can’t walk around in the game (the keys instead play music, which was both nice and out of place). The rain noise was pretty relaxing and the graphics were decent enough.

Overall, I suppose it was a good enough short game that felt kind of like a walking simulator but without the walking. It’s also free, so there’s really nothing to lose in trying out the game. For that, I recommend this game for anyone who wants a simple game to play.

Tales from the Borderlands

Tales from the Borderlands

Wow…. just wow. This game is a must buy!

Let me start out by saying that I’ve never played a Borderlands game before this one. If you are new to the Borderlands universe, no worries. Tales From The Borderlands is able to introduce you to the world without needing any prior knowledge of the original games. Technically this game takes place after Borderlands 2, but it is summarized perfectly and requires no further knowledge then what they explain to you.

In TFTB, you play two different characters (Rhys and Fiona) as they recap the story of their adventure. Like most other Telltale games, Tales plays out like an interactive adventure, with dialogue options and choices sprinkled in.

I guess there’s a lot to say about the game but I’ll keep it short for ya’ll. If you really want to read some in-depth critisism you can check out the lower part the review. If you just want to know if this game is good for you, just read the short COOL-list up here.

COOL:

  • Tales really captures the Borderlands' iconic mix of action and humour.

  • Dialogue is quite solid, be it in a serious or humorous scene. Has it’s off-moments though, but that’s to be expected when…

  • …You have about 10 hours of story going on. Quite a long journey with lots of twists and turns.

The Tower of Wowers

The Tower of Wowers

Oh boy where do I start? Yes, there is plenty of crude humor to laugh at all throughout the tower. But that says nothing about the actual gameplay. And it plays like proper good RPG. There’s secrets hidden in not-so-obvious places and those are always a treat to come across. If you want gear, you’re going to have to fight for it. There are loot chests, but don’t expect to find weapons in them. Admittedly, I am not the best person to ask about turn-based games in general, but in the words of Todd Howard, “It just works.” Other than the odd bug I came across, which is fixed, the fights are balanced and the controls are easy. And if you like the feel of a buttons and joysticks, controllers should work just fine. I would say the soundtrack is a major selling point (The desert type theme is my favorite, funny how it is in many games), it’s just the whole thing is awesome. The enemies are the most creative and diverse selection I’ve ever seen, probably because they have little to do with each other. And that also brings up a point, there isn’t a huge amount of lore and storytelling. That’s not a bad thing, just something you should know. So, I definitely would recommend this game.

I fully expected to go into this game and rip it to shreds, but its such a shitpost meme game that it quickly grabbed my heart. The crayon drawn enemies are amazing, several variants are around with more xp and currency, and its extremely well done. For the companies first game, the price tag is perfect and it fully deserves to be played by as many as possible. I interviewed Barry during my gameplay review and play through on my twitch channel, and the game is just a work of love for the absurd. 10/10 Buy it and have a great time for a stupid low price!

Ankh 2: Heart of Osiris

Ankh 2: Heart of Osiris

Play the first Ankh game instead, its slightly more enjoyable. Ankh 2 is a disappointment so far for me and not much new is offered in the game early on. I also bought Ankh 3… but I do not have high expectations, as the sequel to the first game is already a letdown after the first hour and a half. I will push through and complete it some day, possibly changing my review, and move on to the third game in the trilogy.

UPDATE: I finally finished the game….

I have good news and bad news… Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 all sucked…. That’s the bad news.

Real player with 9.8 hrs in game

Could’ve been good but too many annoyances made this game pretty unplayable.

There are parts I really liked about this game, the story are actual puzzles were enjoyable. But that’s about it.

Technical glitches up the wazoo. Uggg. It completely crashed on me so many times and a couple of times after an event happened the game glitched, with dialogue popping up like it hadn’t happened and I couldn’t go back, couldn’t go forward. So lame. Also, talk about clicking on super tiny specific things or one tiny hidden area of the screen to find an exit. I literally had to move my cursor slowly across one oasis scene trying to find the one small spot that finally popped up as an exit.
