Mr. Prepper

Mr. Prepper

I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t sure if I liked it the first few hours but boy did I change my mind. I was expecting to actually have to survive in the shelter I created and see the aftermath of the wasteland left after the world goes to hell and I was puzzled as to why this sort of game play wasn’t added in but it’s still a fantastic base building , survival game and I hope they’ll add DLC in the future, where you’ll actually be able to survive in the bunker or even get to experience what happens after landing the rocket .

Mr. Prepper. A survival base building game that’s not about survival and not about base building but purely story-driven.

TL;DR: If you can get it cheap (10 USD/EUR), give it a shot. But if you want a survival challenge or expect another game like This War Of Mine, STAY AWAY. It has SO much unused potential. It could be so much more.

PROS:

  • Interesting story. Mr. Prepper is not your average guy.

  • The typical “just one more day” game design that sucks you in.

  • 3 (4) NPCs you interact with that are all kinda likable.

The Meta:

This is a free prologue, as a feature-limited demo of the full game which expands upon the content that was made available in the demo from July. You have absolutely no reason not to try this.

I’ve played rather extensively through the beta testing, and can attest that the devs are incredibly responsive to the player community, both for bug fixing and implementing player-suggested improvements or modifications, and I fully expect that behavior to apply to the full game.

The game includes no microtransactions.

Originally, I thought the prologue would end in 30 days at most, but later I found out that I was still too young and naive. On the first day of the second month, I angrily ate all my food. I have many cans which used all the money I made to buy, and with lots of blueberry milkshakes and carrot soup. It’s ridiculous that I didn’t have diarrhea after eating it all! Ok, I have to quit the game in dismay!

Talk about the advantages and shortcomings of this game. This game is still very creative, painting style is good, it is said that the official version has more content. In terms of content, the game is undoubtedly a success. But the game also has some shortcomings:

Dead In Bermuda

Dead in Bermuda Review

Are you looking for an adventure, or in this case what do you say to a forced adventure? Crash landed on a remote mysterious island…

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. A very unique RPG system with its own experience levels that is tied to character development with numerous skills to choose on how to improve them or cater them to what you need them to do, all running in the background on its own as you play the game.

  2. Crafting system, to improve and expand your means of survival on the island.

Fantastic game.

I /can/ see why people don’t like it. With the tag ‘visual novel’ and the story filled cutscenes, some people (like I did) can approach it thinking it’s a management like sim, more focused on the story than survival. It’s not.

I. Dead in Bermuda is a challenging, intense survival management game.

The game holds your hand (providing you with the option to scavenge the downed plane for supplies - the level of days it lasts depends on the difficulty level) only to a point. It’ll give you tips at the beginning, show you how to play the game, and then you’re on your own.

Landless

Landless

Excellent start for an early release. The game is decently fleshed out and is very playable. It’s a nice concept and not too difficult to pick up. I’ve played for about 8 hours now just tinkering around with some of the mechanics and crafting and so far have only encountered 1 “game breaking” bug. I have encountered multiple other bugs but nothing that has deterred my enjoyment or ability to play. The dev’s seem very responsive and appear to take action or explain every bug report/suggestion listed in the discussion area and they are pusing out relatively quick patches/versions. It is still pre-release/mid-alpha stage though, so if you are looking for a completely polished experience I would tag to follow and wait a while. If you don’t mind a few hiccups while still getting to enjoy the game you should invest and support the dev team so they can make it better.

OVERVIEW

Landless is the debut Steam title from indie developer, CodeBullet.

In Landless you play an unseen and unnamed woman living on a little boat in the post-apocalyptic Earth of the future. The seas have risen far beyond the most pessimistic predictions of global warming spruikers, leaving the remnants of Earth’s population clinging to survival on boats, floating towns, and the few very small islands of land that remain.

You begin the game drifting along on a semi-procedurally-generated ocean-based map (some components, such as the first town and research tower, are fixed in every game). There’s a brief tutorial that introduces you to some basic principles: starting, moving, and stopping your biofuel-powered boat; interacting with people; and gaining strange black boxes by destroying the increasingly well-defended “Ecotech research beacons”. These you can then trade for technology points to buy new blueprints for crafting. The economy is based on “woil': whale oil, which you can use to buy most goods from traders, and also have to spend to craft items, but which seems to be strangely unobtainable from whales.

Age of Survival

I’ve played many EA games, but this has to be the worst one yet.

I wouldn’t even call this EA but a pre-alpha.

The normal version of the game doesn’t work, I spawned with a stick and must’ve punched a sheep over 100 times, he didn’t mind.

Harvesting resources in the normal version? You can’t..all I could do was finding a pool of water and drinking..hurray.

I ended that session walking on the bottom of the ocean (due to lack of swimming animations) and drowning myself thus putting myself out of this misery.

Age of Survival

Do not buy this game.I don’t even know why it’s still on Steam. When you launch the game you have three options.Launch Age of Survival,Launch Age of Survival DX9 or launch the experimental version of Age of Survival. The first two are literally unplayable 5fps on the lowest settings. The third mode is playable, meaning that you can move around in 30-60 fps with lags.

Gameplay

When you start, you choose between a male or female model. There is no customization.Once you are in the actual game, you can walk around and equip your knife.I killed a pig in one hit,but you cannot pick up anything from it.After that I walked around but couldn’t find any material to pick up or craft.Basically the game is unplayable.

30 days to survive

30 days to survive

Bought the game on sale, and honestly enjoyed it. Not just because it was cheap, but it’s a challenging game, with simple graphics. There are a few bugs that I’ve encountered, and the RNG could use some tuning up(I got a bear as my very first enemy, and that peashooter doesnt do enough to kill it), but it has potential. It’s not a bad game, its more of an RNG side scroller.

The bugs so far

What looks like a combat shotgun, if picked up, can be picked up multiple times, and bugs the inventory to the point of game crash.

Real player with 6.1 hrs in game

30 days to survive is a zombie survival, side scrolling platformer. It’s the first of its kind that I’ve seen personally. At the very least the devs should be commended for attempting it. The physics are a little wonky, but it fits well with its blocky, Lego-man-esque art style.

The controls and game mechanics take some getting used to. Right out of the gate can be pretty unforgiving. With its quick hunger and energy depletion, coupled with zombies that get little to no knockback from attacks. The items are RNG heavy, so you can get very unlucky with starving to death or losing the ability to run and jump. Progression hinges upon using the save function at your house to build up an arsenal of gear to survive with. It can be easily exploited by save scumming, but to some degree you kind of have to in order to live beyond 5 stages away from home. There is a sewer system that you can discover that acts as a sort of checkpoint system. There is a taxi that can appear randomly which you use to fast travel home. For the most part though, the further away from home you go, the further you have to walk back. Items respawn after moving two stages beyond, so you have a chance to find enough food and energy to make the journey back. Enemies respawn as well though, so it isn’t an easy decision to risk the journey.

Total cash grab at it finest.

Tried playing it a few times and it just doesn’t work very well. A lot of guessing at what to do to do any thing and so basic as to pretty much be a tech test rather than a game.

Oh and don’t expect an update….they are so few and far between it might be a game in 20 or 30 years.

Very cute, but content-lite. Realistically Do It With Hay has at most 15 minutes of content, thickened with the bale stacking and having to do some DIY platforming for one achievement. Nice visuals just don’t make up for the wonky physics though, stacking the bales goes fine right up until you try to jump or bunny hop onto them, then both they and you go flying and you must start over…provided the timer hasn’t run out, again. Pitchforks serve no purpose other than to poke the truck driver when he falls asleep, so trying to reach the stacking objectives while managing your stamina meter becomes ridiculously hectic.

Fringe Planet

Fringe Planet

Want to support the game and add more content to the game? Fringe Planet is on Kickstarter! Search for it now!

Introduction:

Fringe Planet is a survival simulator game inspired by Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress, Factorio, Eldritch and more. All set within a well developed universe inspired by the works of fantastic fiction - H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley and Lewis Carroll

Six strangers awake in a frozen land with no memory of who they are. Can you help save these strangers? Tame occult forces, survive the cold, harness the power of magically powered technology and ultimately defeat an Elder God.

Game Features:

Detailed simulations

The peons have bones, organs and memories. A fire will heat up a room, leaving a door open will let the warmth escape. Plants grow and can be farmed. Ore is placed in unique patterns, magical spirits walk along ley lines and can be captured. Magic is real and has consequences.

Deep and extensive lore

The lore of Fringe Planet is incredibly detailed, with a lot of stories to be uncovered, and a lot of mysteries to be solved. Heavily inspired by Lovecraft and others, this lore is as fantastic as it is terrifying.

Epic machinery

Automation can be the key to success in Fringe Planet. Setting up belts to perform crafting or mining will free up a peon from doing a task manually. Mining machines will extract ore from voxels much more efficiently than a peon would - it’s up to you to decide how best to use this technology.

Replayability

Every game will be different. The game is designed so that every play through happens differently; with a gazillion possible peon combinations and an even higher number of possible starting islands - every game will feel very different.

Brutally hard story telling

Fringe Planet is not an easy game. The storytellers are actively trying to force you into a “game over” state. The frozen reality of an island floating through an infinite void is a brutal one for survival. Expect to be replaying this game a lot.

A living breathing world

As eldritch as the universe of Fringe Planet is, it’s a living world. Creatures hunt, nest and breed. Wind blows and trees grow. All of this is designed to create a dynamic and interesting world to play with.

Modding support

The game has been built with extensive modding support. Steam workshop integration will be implemented on release, and the modding documentation will be extensive. Every aspect of the game can be changed/tweaked.

About development

Fringe Planet has been in development for a year and a half now, and is being developed by a solo developer from the United Kingdom. Fueled mostly by tea, he is working full time on Fringe Planet - and often wishes there were more hours in the day. The game is under constant changes, therefore both graphics and minimum requirements may change over time. There are both extensive blog posts and daily tweets about development on the Fringe Planet website.
