Police Simulator: Patrol Duty

Police Simulator: Patrol Duty

Disclaimer: I was a closed beta tester for this game starting from October 9, 2018-June 18, 2019, so some information might be outdated. No compensation of any sort (other than a beta key) was provided to me.

Updates: I just got off of a shift after a traffic duty mission where I frisked a suspect and found a switchblade. He was arrested shortly after. Was not taking an emergency call, just doing proactive beat work. Also, the plate information for illegally parked vehicles in traffic duty show up on the PDA, but not on the computer. Also received word that others have arrested those with warrants outside of missions and calls.

Quite an entertaining game. There is a ton of repeats with missions which can get a little boring over a longer period of time, but it’s a good thing they have Multiplayer. I’ll state the pro’s and con’s as well as what could/should be added in the future. I will state some things that may confuse people, but I will try and explain them in brackets. This is of course because I am an Officer in real life and I like to point out things that would be obvious to other officers.

Pros:

  • Has a realistic form of Conduct

This is a most enjoyable game, but there is some room for improvement. The graphics, especially of bridge interiors, are excellent. While I’m not an expert on ship physics, they seem pretty good. The learning curve for this game is not too steep, by and large, and after a couple of early failures, I have played about 75% of the missions and passed them all. However, the game does have one or two little bugs, and there are some areas where it could improve:

  1. The text goes weird when you try to change the settings. It’s OK initially, but when you go back a screen after making your desired change, it all gets screwed up somehow.

Pretty darn good game so far. I would say that if you are looking for a fast and furious action type simulation, this game isn’t for you. I you are looking for a realistic simulator designed to test your skills at navigating ships, then this is one to buy. The graphics are good for an early release game and the physics of the ships seems pretty accurate. I have owned boats most of my life and I would day that they control pretty much as I would think a ship would with the exception of the tug boat which seems a little overpowered. The modeling of the water is incredible. You really get the feeling that you are out on the ocean in the weather and waves.

If you are reading the reviews and thinking about buying it, you probably already know you are going to love it. Likely you saw and it stopped because you like anything to do with outer space. The list of awesome starts with, “Driving around on the moon.” The game is certainly peaceful, serene, and relaxing. Driving without racing, or shooting anything - very well done. You may learn a few things along the way, too. Oh, and you get to drive around on the moon!

Artwork and environment are beautiful, physics are seemingly reasonable (not sure, never been there!). The game doesn’t punish us for bad driving, even when we intentionally do so. This is a hassle-free simulation experience.

Ring Miner

Another great lil simulation game from Stolk! The physics are robust and the interface is intuitive. Driving around and digging through asteroids feels good, but at the moment this is mostly just a sandbox to play around in. I’m hoping more missions and things to DO will be added in the future, but even in its current form it’s a good chill-out game for messing around in while listening to some music or a podcast.

Ring miner is a space mining simulator in which you control a lander and a rover. You pilot the lander around a ring of space rocks (around Jupiter), find one that looks suitable (the next one in the ring), land on it, then explore and mine elements in order to collect each one in the periodic table.

https://youtu.be/eqGd4Ahm_lo

This game has complete three dimensional movement, a gravity indicator to help with analyzing landings, the possibility to completely annihilate space rocks, and what is basically an infinite amount of rocks to mine. I have not played anything like this before and I think it’s pretty unique. Check out the gameplay video to see what I mean.

Atom

This game is cool. You can make the hydrogen do some wild things visually. Hydrogen is interesting since (I think) all of our other atoms come from hydrogen, don’t quote me on that.

For .99, it’s certainly worth it.

I hope the author makes more content like this.

Not gonna lie, this game is stupid at the moment. That being said, I’m glad I bought it; it was truly fun to mess around with, and although the novelty has worn off, it was nice. I really hope more is added in the near future. I would recommend this game but only because I thought it was fun for the few minutes I played it. A little tour of the controls would be nice, and it would be good if one could change the quality of the graphics and/or simulation for different PCs to properly run it at whatever they want/need. This game could be a lot of fun if it were to take a look at other sandbox-type simulation games, such as universe sandbox. The variety of different controls with explanations detailed enough that you know what you’re doing when you’re doing it. Overall, I’d say the only reason I had fun playing this was my ADHD deciding to hyperfixate on this for the past little bit. Keep working on this game and it could become something greater

You know what, I don’t care about some of the hate for these types of “joke games”. They have a place, just like any other game. Critique like “They just want a quick cash grab!” makes me laugh. You don’t think the major triple A title companies wanna make money? You think the goal is to simply entertain people and go out of business?

This is an indie title, on a sale it costs next to nothing. For that you get a laugh or two, and a short, simple game. It functions (least in the current state I’ve played it), and I don’t see any indication anywhere on it’s store page that it is trying to sell consumers something it is not, or lie to consumers. Then it’s allright to be whatever you are as a game, and some will enjoy it and others will not. If there’s a chance you don’t find these types of silly games amusing, then you should perhaps stay clear.

A Tamagotchi That You Don’t Care About

The game is very empty, it doesn’t even have settings or an actual ability to pause which means if you have to leave the PC it will probably be dead by the time you get back. There’s also no save option so if you close the game you’ll never see that dog again. Most of the dogs are ugly, but it gives the ability to hatch a new dog as many times as you’d like to though the effort isn’t really worth it since they die so often. The game lacks any direction beyond the achievements that create goals, which also means it has no replay ability. Some of the achievements are extremely time consuming, partially because the stats of the dog go down so fast and when the sleep stat goes down the dog becomes narcoleptic making everything take twice as long as well as putting itself in dangerous situations, plus the achievement progress has to be done on one dog so each time the dog dies the achievements you were working on are back to zero progress if incomplete. It took me 4 hours to 100% this game and never want to see it again, without the complications which lead to artificial game life it could have taken me maybe an hour to complete and yes still never want to see it again. If peeing on things is that important to you play postal 2, it’s a decent game and that’s a game mechanic.

I love this game but it feels very unfinished. here’s some criteeks

it would be good if there was something to replenish your health (maybe the burgers in the burger shop)

the money is difficult to pick up while you are being chased (i guess thats part of the challenge though)

you get drunk too easily maybe make it more gradual so you get a little more disorientated with each beer

the knife and the slap is pretty much obsolete because the chicken is a much more powerful mele weapon

most of the buildings are empty and you cant do anything in them (it would be funny if there were people in the homes who freaked out when you invaded their house)
