Schein
I’m delighted to find this hidden gem while perusing the games for a Meridian 4 bundle as it’s been a while since I really enjoyed a platformer (the last would be Trine and Trine 2). There are many detailed reviews here and I agree with most so I will try to sum things up here:
(1) Storyline - man lost his son and tries to find him in a swamp. Meets a wisp that helps him to get deep into the swamp.
(2) Gameplay and difficulty - 12 levels (about 6+ hours I’d say for one playthrough, more if you want to get all achievements). You will obtain various powers (i.e. the 3 types of light) at various levels, first when you meet the wisp and then by defeating some of the later bosses.

It’s strange how things go sometimes. If you visit the store page for Schein on Steam you’ll see logo after logo of award nominations and wins Schein has picked up over the course of its development. And it deserves them too, it’s a great game, yet for some reason no one seems to be talking about it. It should by rights be an ‘indie darling’, but so far it’s a lost gem
Maybe part of the problem is that it’s easily dismissed as yet another indie puzzle-platformer, a Braid-like. With simple graphics, a so-so character model, and some less than great voice work. Spend some time with Schein though and you realise it’s more than that, packed with smart, challenging puzzles, and some cool aesthetics.

Ball laB
Ball Lab is for sure an exciting and challenging platformer, quite strange too!
Well, you’ll get what the store page offers - a hardcore, minimalistic platformer.
And actually the game’s hard from the very beginning - there’s a lack of a tutorial that I always point out, but apart from this thing you’ll have two choices - fall down to the exit on the right side, or jump through the spikes your way and get to the elevator that teleports you at the very first level.
The game can be easily played by using the WASD key with the spacebar for jumping, although there are no guides that tell you if you can remap controls or even what a single key does.. but it’s quite simple in such a minimalistic game!

Very hard and fun, but slightly buggy platformer.
This is a very simplistic, minimalistic platformer. There are 60 Levels - each getting increasingly harder and introducing new obstacles.
The artstyle is very simple too, with colours ranging from white - to grey - to black. Controlls are equaly as simple - there is not even really a tutorial. - Jump, sprint, move - thats it. Ive got to say: the menu design is pretty well done - the menu and level selection screen are part of the game too - and you can even die there.

Blaster Shooter GunGuy!
I really wanted to like this game, but in its current state, I cannot recommend it. I wrote some suggestions for the dev a month and a half ago since he appears to be active in the community discussions, but he has not addressed them despite responding to the posts above and below mine.
What’s sad is there is quite a bit of content here that most people will never see because the game is unfair with regard to taking damage. There is no delay between taking multiple hits, so falling in spikes will literally kill your three hearts in about 1 second. The lack of proper controller support is also a complete turn-off. You shouldn’t need a third-party tool when the Unity engine supports controllers already.

Blaster Shooter GunGuy likes to pretend that it’s a precision platformer yet the character movement has been implemented very poorly. There is no variable jump height, no wall jumping, and with how the game has been programmed it’s also possible for jumping to become unresponsive when near a ledge. Considering how many small platforms there are, and how many projectiles you must dodge, it’s absolutely hell to play.
The GUI is a mess, most in-game text is distorted and nearly unreadable. Controllers are supported but the keybinding graphics will not change to support this. Many buttons do not conform to what actions I’d expect them to make.

!AnyWay!
An achievement spam game, everything’s obtainable by idling for some hours in the main menu (but not during gameplay).
The game itself consists of a very simplified platformer with crappy, non-rebindable controls (so forget WASD keys to move, which should be a must from Windows 95).
The whole game is graphically conceived in a “television” shape and with extremely retro-styled characters and overall graphics; you can push the keys from 1 to 4 in order just to reduce the screen size which is something I sincerely don’t understand - if you aren’t playing in 1, full screen, you’ll likely see barely anything given how crappy the graphics are in a general way.

If I could put a neutral review I would… but I cant so I will just thumbs up this
This game has so much potential but it just does a few things wrong;
-
The grab onto a rope button and jump button at the same… its just annoying
-
To grab a rope you have to be at the bottom… this usually means you just miss the rope
… thats as far as I got, I couldnt cross the water on the first level but im sure if you spent sometime you could easily get used to the controls
But lets be honest, you are not here for the gameplay, you are here for the 4997 achievements! If thats ll you care about then you can just get these by idling the game for 1.5 hours on the main menu and never touch this game again! But in terms of gameplay there is none

A Night at the Races
A Night at the Races is a really well made speedrun-focused runner/platformer hybrid game. This game came out of no where, and I picked it up thinking it would be nice to play here and there. I played like 20 hours in 3 days because it was that good. I really recommend playing this game, it’s a magical experience.

I came into this game with the mistaken belief that I was somewhat good at platformers. 20 hours and 120 levels later I’m leaving with the knowledge that I’m trash, as well as a blister on my thumb and a deeply ingrained hatred for berries.
Worth a look if you’re into the super-hard platforming genre. Super tight camera and auto-run/jump controls means you don’t have time to plan a route, it’s pretty much all either reflexes and reaction or brute muscle memory. Pretty decent worldbuilding outside of the platforming segments, and the point and click portions provided a good pallet cleanser, but overall the story was sparse.

AFTERGRINDER
AFTERGRINDER is an intense speedrunning platformer in which you need to avoid obstacles, collect stars and race to finish to beat a level.
Pros:
-Immensly fun, the speed of the game and the obstacles placed your way gradually increase as you progress, leaving you with an ever increasing challenge
-The colour scheme and music suit the game and flow of the game perfectly, adding great immersion to your experience
-Controls are easy to grasp, and responsive
-It has trading cards and Steam Achievements

First impression: wow I dig the artstyle and music.
Then comes the “story” text that makes up a story about why the protagonist has to go to the end of the stages, the moment after it tells you that it says “what are you waiting for, no seriously there is no story the whole point of this game is to make you rage”… Sigh. Those are contradicting sentences and it’s not generally a good idea to tell your consumers that the point of your game is to make them rage when you pay for a video game.
So I go about the first 5 level and think alright this game has a few things that could be improved upon but so far it’s good enough for what I paid (got it in a bundle) then comes level 6 of world 1 and they introduce a pink line. The goal of the game is to gravity shift through obstacles and this pink line acts as a floor or ceilling depending on where you shift from. The thing is that you have to press up or down again on the line and it would have made sense to just pass through once you input that command but instead, you just flip on it and have to press it again to pass through. That is a design flaw in my oppinion because after like 5 minute of gameplay you changed the rules where I had to input 1 command to dodge and incomming obstacle (well from 0 to 1) and made it that it became 0-3 commands per obstacle. In a runner, this is too much information that has to be made every 2 seconds and makes the game unplayable, I would have to do the whole stage per section while dying endlessly to learn the layout of the stage and execute the commands accordingly. And that is within 5 minute of gameplay, if it would be the last mechanic to learn it would have been fair but the second mechanic? Nah. There is plenty of better game in the genre, that doesn’t use unfair or poorly designed mechanics to “make you rage”. Save your money.

Big FLAPPY Tower VS Tiny Square
I’m the world record holder in the first game so it’s a little disappointing not having a leader board to work towards the top of, but this game is really fun and I’d definitely recommend it if precision platformers are your jam
