Death Wish

Death Wish

Death Wish is an adventure game where you accompany the last boss of the game who, tired of waiting for the player to farm, starts looking for the hero who disappeared during the game.

During your adventure, you will have to defeat enemies using your telekinetic powers, such as village guards, focal NPCs in the story and even bargain with the death itself, so that it catches the hero’s attention and unleashes the battle that our character so desires.

The game contains several different areas with different ways to be completed, as well as bosses that you will have to defeat along the way and several secondary NPCs who just want to know what’s going on.

Venture into this world following the opposite path that the hero followed behind clues and crumbs, exploring the fantasy world in pixel art and listening to beautiful music along the way.

Leopoldo Manquiseil

Leopoldo Manquiseil

A challenging yet fair platformer with around 3-4 hours of content. Levels consist mostly of environmental hazards like spikes and rotating platforms instead of enemies.

The only major blemish is that there are a few lines of text in the game that weren’t properly translated into English, but it’s not a plot driven game.

Real player with 16.4 hrs in game

Leopoldo Manquisel falls flat on its face because of the extremely finicky controls. The jumps are extremely high, so your main concern is to not accidentally headbutt into an enemy. The collision detection is suffering for large hitboxes. If you stand close to an enemy your shots litterally go right through him. It is next to impossible to jump+dash over hazards in a narrow corridor with a low ceiling (this is mainly an issue when using a controller). And on and on it goes with unfair deaths. Oh, I almost forgot, ‘shoot’ and ‘dash’ are reversed from their conventional position on the controller.

Tiny Thor

Tiny Thor

What’s this game about?

Tiny Thor is a platformer with a 16-bit aesthetic and fresh gameplay. Central to the game design and in the grip of the protagonist is Mjölnir, the legendary hammer. It can be freely aimed and bounces off of surfaces and enemies, enabling all kinds of trick shots.

The game has been carefully designed around this premise: Hit enemies in their weak spots, trigger that switch behind the corner or jam it between a wall and the boss for consecutive hits, while you dodge its attacks.

The combat takes turns with platforming, sometimes tight and precise, sometimes loose and flowing, and is regularly escalated into exhilarating boss battles, which will test your mettle.

Some light physics puzzles which utilise the unique mechanics of our second, bouncy protagonist round off the experience.

All of this happens within a meticulously crafted and beautifully rendered world that holds many surprises, secrets and wonders waiting for you.

Playing status: finished the game, 243 deaths

Intro

Bring Back The Sun by Daniel da Silva is a platformer game where you need to traverse the area to reach the exit. It offers a simplistic control where you only need arrow keys or WASD to move.

Pros:

  • A lot of levels

Cons:

  • Sometimes you can’t see what’s beneath you, forcing you to take a leap of faith to jump

  • Some mechanics feel cheap

  • The fast camera movement when you are jumping can give you a headache

this would be a neutral review if steam had one

bring back the sun is a game made by a small developer

its a platformer game, nice music

i didn’t get to fully experience the game because i cant get used to the camera movement when jumping, it makes it hard to play

(kind of makes you rage)

if you can, please improve the jump camera and make it so you can zoom out a bit more as you cant see whats below you most of the time

price is also a bit higher than it should be

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams

Mostly Boring

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams is a platforming game where you play as a pair of characters that can switch on the fly, changing the environment, the enemies, and in a lot of parts, the available collectible crystals. Crystal collecting and switching are at the core of this game, and not much else.

Don’t expect much of a story. I’ll be honest, I found none myself, so this is really just pure game. The problem is that the game it is isn’t very good.

Navigate levels by jumping and either spinning, which turns the character into a kind of cannon ball that can break walls or attack enemies; or twisting, which allows the character to descend slowly and with more control after a jump.

Personal rating: 8/10

What about Giana Sisters - Twisted Dreams?

This seemingly cute and unambitious platformer will prove that you should never judge a book by its cover. It sports increasingly challenging level making use of the core mechanic; dual world that can change how enemies and the environment behaves around you.

The game is so cutesy, it must be easy! Hint: It is not

Although the game starts simple and easy it soon becomes one of the most difficult platforming games with long levels full of secret paths leading to more gems, which you will need to explore if you wish to earn the best rank.

This game is not AIDS

Real player with 0.3 hrs in game

Master Whip is another GameMaker Studio asset flip from serial copy+paste infringers, ImperiumGame. All these guys do is rip off game templates and projects from the Yoyogames/GameMaker Studio store and try to scam people into paying for someone else’s work on Steam. They have run asset flip scams dozens of times, and this is no exception. It’s nothing but a cash grab.

This time they’ve ripped off a basic template for a 2D retro pixel platformer.

In line with dishonest asset flippers, the game was dumped immediately at launch into DailyIndieGame shovelware bundles. It’s massively overpriced. Even if this wasn’t just an asset flip, it would be garbage. Impossible to recommend.

Game description key-points: poorly designed plat-former

Overview: low quality game

Real player with 9.5 hrs in game

Must Reach is a “template flip”, that is to say, it’s a “game” that has been produced by copying a game template from GameMaker Studio, changing a few things, then dumping the barely functional “product” on Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. In this case it was a GameMaker Studio template for doing a simple retro platformer game.

GameMaker Studio is a very poor quality game construction kit, and results in terrible games like this one.

No professional effort was made in terms of game development, using a game construction kit requires no game development talent, and unsurprisingly produces products that have little to no value as games, especially when compared to the work of professional developers who create genuine products for gamers. It’s almost as bad as an outright asset flip.
