JQ: Beautiful Japan

JQ: Beautiful Japan

It’s a simple program consisting of questions with four different answer choices to choose from. The main problems are that neither the questions nor the answers are random (so they’re in the same order, with the same answers to choose from each time) and that Hiragana and Katana questions are only from gojūon group (no dakuon, han-dakuon, yōon, sokuon).

You could probably find something online that’s better for learning Hiragana & Katakana. Even for absolute beginners, I’d not recommend this due to how shallow it is.

Very good for revising the basic syllabarys in japanese.

Hiragana and Katakana.

I found it particularly easy because i have already studied the basics online quite some time ago; Therefore it’s very good for revision time and time again.

You should buy this game since it’s relatively cheap, you have an interest for learning the basics of japanese and if you want some good revision material. - If this fits you then go ahead and pick it up; you won’t be disappointed.

Ok guys don’t hate me I come from some harsh weeks and I don’t even know how to write anymore, plus I never studied English, so I don’t know what I’m writing.

What can we say about this game? Well, it has more than 500 achievements and this often is not a good point to start with..

The game has an automatic resolution and offers no setting of any kind - just toggle sound effects on and off, and well the soundtrack is definitely something annoying - crappy ambient things.

You’re asked to choose between easy, medium and hard difficulty and then thrown into the game.

Real player with 18.4 hrs in game

Pretty easy and straight-forward.

It’s a game that helps you memorize the Periodic Table of Elements (mainly what you learned back in grade school), with the addition of some newer elements that have been found and classified more recently (last couple of years or whatever).

My only complaint is to maybe have the answers shuffled around every time the player fails, that way they don’t just memorize the positioning or whatever (like I did).

It cheep too.

Lots of achievements, so yes–

JQ: countries

Unfortunately, even this JQ game has to be negatively reviewed.

By the way, JQ means “Just Questions”..

Anyways, it follows the same pattern as the other games with the same title published by Snkl Studio: this time, the quiz can be split in two parts. You can choose to play with country capitals, or guess sights - i.e.: poorly-drawn famous or not-so-famous landscapes, city buildings, natural places and so on belonging to one country.

This game unfortunately as I said has the same horrendous feature of the other JQ games - all the questions are always the same, in the same order. You’re literally going to play the same game over and over again if you want to reach the later questions.

JQ: countries is a quiz game that is just about questions that pertain to countries capitals, their flags and locations based on visual images taken around the world. This is an educational game so do not expect much in terms of quality considering the price. When you are answering each question there are four different options from you to pick from out of the two game modes. If you make a mistake the game will penalize you and take away one of your hearts; losing all hearts will take you back to the main menu. Rate 5/10 (neutral) meaning that the game is good in terms of testing your memory and knowledge of public places. The sound track should have been included with the base game instead of being an extra.

BOOKS

I was sure I had already reviewed this game..

Anyways, it’s a complete bugged mess.

I’m not complaining (yeah just a little bit in the end XD) about the promises the developers made months ago (like trading cards, never implemented, nor any other kind of upgrade) but just on the actual game, which has never been on early access.

Fortunately there’s an awesome guide here on Steam on how to get every achievement, ‘cos there are more than 4000 of them..

The game is made up by three rooms (one of which is kinda secret) and lots of books, every one of them dedicated to a single animal. It’s a basic quiz game, four answers for every question and nothing more.

Original Review:

‘Elephants don’t afraid of mice, they are just very cautious’.

My graphics weren’t compatible so I just had a mostly dark screen but it was enough to see and get achievements. Now I have all the letters and I’m going to power my car and house with them. That’s green energy. In your face Trump!

Play slowly so the achievements have time to pop. And if they stop popping, shut the game off and re-open it a minute.

It’s Spring Again

It’s Spring Again

An interesting, educational and interactive story designed to teach children about the seasons.. Education is paramount to a child’s development. Nothing better than sitting back and watching your child beam a smile in your direction, it can brighten and warm even the coldest of people.

This game won’t break the bank, and will probably give a child a couple of hours of entertainment… Although when talking about children any parent knows that kids can get obsessed with just about anything.. Believe me I’ve gone through them all Barney, Teletubbies, (although DJ Lance Rock was awesome) Elmo and the likes.

It was a shame to be born with feet instead of wings. If we’d had wings we could have shared in the culture and traditions of every country around the world. But, thanks to It’s Spring Again, we can share a delightful Russian artform with children who are growing up with the internet and ipads. And, here is a game that utilizes voice talant, art, and mechanics in a fluid way to engage kids everywhere. They might even pickup a little bit of a second language as well.

I’m probably getting the horse before the cart here, but this game is based on a puppet show, and the dlc (which is really a must-have in this game) includes a free video of the puppet show, along with an artbook. The artbook is filled with art from the game and the puppet show, as well as a concept sketchbook. The video is a live performance of a diaorama-type puppet show, sort of a 3D flannel board of the earth, which different stick puppets are attached to during the performance. This alone is well worth watching, though it is in Russian, and I couldn’t locate the subtitle function on my plug-in. The acting was so dramatic and I’d already played the game through for a few hours, and you can tell right away the Earth is sleeping, even without knowing Russian. It is presented as metaphors.

JQ: dogs & cats

Although being very minimalistic for what concerns its graphic appearance and limited/boring soundtrack, I really think that this game’s quite good for what it costs and it’s very funny especially for kids and for those who like dogs and cats of all ages :)

I know that I’ve already played some games from this developer and reviewed them negatively but well.. every game must be reviewed and played without thinking too much at everything else :P

Here we have a Russian and English interface, so you’re gonna play in English and if this isn’t your native tongue, you’re also gonna learn quite some new dog and cat breed names :P

You get what you paid for, 215 achievements at minimum price. If you’re an achievement hunter looking to increase the number of achievements on your profile showcase, then I highly recommend buying this. Else don’t waste your money. This is not a game, it’s just a way of distributing achievements.

Athena, the rabbit - Jigsaw Puzzle

Athena, the rabbit - Jigsaw Puzzle

Such a cute, short game with an adorable bunny at the center. Picked it up for a whole 50 cents, but would have paid the $1.99 if I had to. Relaxing fun for anyone. That 576 pieces achievement can be done with any puzzle. Looking back on it, I would have chosen one that had more distinctive color changes. It is rather hard with one that has a lot of sameness throughout. But you do get to chose.

Very cute game and cute rabbit! I was so involved in the riveting story shown via Instagram photos.

Unfortunately not any time keeping mechanics that would be helpful for a speedrun of this game. There was also no way to turn off the photo of the puzzle in the background because it kind of makes me feel like I’m cheating. Still, I wish/hope for an update or a sequel to Athena’s life.

Personally I muted the music for this game (it’s not atrocious, but there is no volume slider, and I just felt listening to Dedo on Dedo by Simply on repeat for hours was more fitting)

JPN Burst

JPN Burst

If you’re already familiar with Hiragana and Katakana and feel like you still mess up sometimes and want something to practice with. This is a good way to do it. I was feeling rusty on katakana so I grabbed this to do some drills and then went ahead and cleared out the hiragana sets as well. The one annoying thing was that everytime you beat a lesson/test it sends you back to the menu to select between school/home/whatever books you’ve bought instead of just bringing you back to the page you had been before.

A good Japanese learning game/software. I got it for free and I don’t know anything about Japanese language. Within an hour, I gained my basic knowledge about Japanese language and letters. The game is fairly challenging and will actually help you think harder, hence it will actually exercise your brain muscle about the language.
