Dab on Darkness!

Dab on Darkness!

Having now topped in playtime over the previous title, Sakuya Izayoi Gives You Advice and Dabs, one may question how could the developer possibly improve upon their work which could already be considered humanity’s magnum opus. I wondered that myself prior to partaking, and so I had to begin my journey of a thousand hours. And truly, with this title we have added depth of plot, auditory masterpiece, and achievements for a sense of reward even beyond the already vast landscape that is Dab on Darkness. At every step we are offered more than anything before and honestly even though I expected perfection, what was accomplished here goes even further beyond. Perhaps one needed at least this amount of time to truly experience their previous work, but even now with this amount of playtime for this, what could be classified as beyond even a divine testament, is quite possibly not enough to explore the complex myriad of concepts and ideas being put forth here. This can’t be considered a work of mere humanity. It goes beyond our realm of existence entirely, dwarfing even whatever gods may exist. A gift to us mortals to be sure, however I fear that even expressing my utmost appreciation of this enigma would be a fundamentally egregious act of complete and utter disrespect as using humanity’s slipshod excuse of a form of communication could never hope to express even an infinitesimally small fraction of this glory. I am humbled to think what awaits us in the future from this developer.

First of all I would like to say that this review is entirely genuine, and isn’t one of those dumb “ironic” reviews that you see on games like this.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way…

This Visual Novel is great, and the people who made this are really good at this.

I don’t review very many things, so I don’t have the same way with words that some people have, but I just knew I had to review this.

Thank you guys for making this game.

I will be purchasing all games made by this developer as soon as they are released from here on out.

Written for 1561’s Thoughts - Honest reviews, for busy people.

The Game We All Have To Play is worth some time. The premise of the game revolves around rhyme. If you make it through once you can say you’ve won, but it’s up to you if you think you’re done. 6/10

Headliner caught my attention with a simple tagline “What if you control the national news?” Interesting premise and a question that made me wonder “What if I did control the national news?” Fact-based reporting? No slant? Spread the writings of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense… I could do so much. So what would Headliner allow me to do?

I recently got this game for free from a curator connect offer. This 2D simulation game with 2D side-scrolling adventure game elements by Unbound Creations features a custom male/female protagonist Dianne Kalushky who is married to a custom male/female spouse Andrew or Sasha and has a daughter Amber(names of any character can be changed). Dianne has just started work as a Headliner at a news broadcaster Galmedia in the fictitious nation of Galixia.

Amidst the backdrop of a deep polarised divide between the genetically modified population and the non-modified minority known as Purists and an ongoing war in the neighbouring nation of Lerisia with a subsequent influx of refugees to Galixia, Dianne must manage his/her company’s expectations as a corporate entity which needs to rely on broadcasting the type of news to attract interest and subscribers, the conflicting interests from the pro-modified and the Purists as well as on whether to allow or control the number of Lerisian refugees into Galixia, Andrew/Sasha’s declining health, job security and concerns over Amber’s idea on having fun at a festival in a week’s time as well as Amber’s plans to enrol at a secondary and study biology which is beyond the family’s finances.

Postmortem: One Must Die (Extended Cut)

Postmortem: One Must Die (Extended Cut)

This game was really interesting, if you can take the time to read. It acts as one of those “choose your destiny” types, but your actually choosing the destiny of this country Galia or however you spell it. Every person you encounter effects the story in some way or another, and also, what you choose to say to each person effects the outcome also. I love telltale games, Shenmue, indigo prophecy, heavy rain, games of that nature. So if your like me, then most likely you will love this game too. At first I got kind of irritated at the length of dialogue, but then it I realized it became harder and harder to “pick my victim”. It also became more and more apparent that what I was saying to these people, and what they were saying to me, was actually the hints and clues needed to determine which character threatens this countries stability the most. You will encounter bigots, sheep, and possibly a serial killer… But every character you meet, if you choose to meet them all, will play an impact on how the game “ends”. Personally.. I loved it.. For a “first run”… I see the overwhelming potential. Give the gamer multiple “maps or scenarios” with different back stories…. Id accept 15-20 dollars for 4-5 scenarios just like a Telltale game. This game really sparks my interests, dialogue, moral choices, and the ability to effect the outcome of a story HUGE way. Like I said, for a first run, not bad… 8/10.

The indie scene is more prominent than ever boasting a diverse selection of games that often serve as bite sized reprieves from major triple A releases. While the indie scene isn’t immune from uninspired copy and paste designs, there have been a string of recent releases that depart from traditional game design in a major way, challenging what we think of as games. One of the more overlooked releases that fits into this growing segment of games is Postmortem: One Must Die which tries to test players by forcing them to make a single decision that promises to have far reaching consequences. While major releases have tried to accomplish this same goal on a large scale, most have come up short. Does Postmortem’s smaller and more focused scope deliver more satisfying results?

DIVINATION

DIVINATION

This game disturbs me a little bit and I love it for that. I guess I should call it a visual novel because the only real thing you do is decide how to arrange the runes your patrons select, but even that little act can be a quite an experience depending on how into it you can get. What could this rune mean, what order do they actually go in, can I actually reverse the fortune by moving this one?

It’s very short (like 20 minutes tops) to go through a single time and the English text could use a bit touching up in a few spots, but for the cost of a soda or candy bar I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre.

This is a very short game with only 4 characters but each divination change the outcome whoch makes the story very interesting. After the first round, you can use the flowchart to pick the options you decide and see the result, I do encourage you to not necessarily focus on the 100% chaos but to try to see how each result has an impact with the ending.

The 100% Chaos ending is really interesting, it reminded me a LOT of Chobits (not the animated version) as the plots turns a lot around the fact the robots don’t have the choice to live or to die.

A cute, quirky little game about answering agony aunt emails. Very simple but a nice experience. The only feedback I have is that it would be nice to be able to resize the email windows since there’s a lot of empty space on the screen

Don’t Make Love

Don’t Make Love

Full review at: https://thegamehoard.com/2019/02/14/a-look-at-the-latest-dont-make-love-pc/

Don’t Make Love is an interesting experiment in text parsing presented through the unusual coat of paint that is two praying mantises talking about the risks and rewards of mating. It is quite the strange idea to be sure, but the actual content isn’t as involved as one might hope. The player has the freedom to enter whatever responses they wish in a text box, but the mantis they’re speaking to struggles to respond meaningfully and tries to stick to the script rather than convincingly reply to all but the simplest of inputs. It’s not really hard to push for the outcome you’re looking for save when the game completely messes up and misinterprets your intent, and the writing, while somewhat decent, isn’t really able to shine since it’s trying to weakly involve you in the conversation. A single playthrough isn’t too exciting, and trying to see other results just pulls back the curtain to reveal how rigid the conversation’s path truly is.

Real player with 4.0 hrs in game

Don’t Make Love is a relationship navigation exercise about two mantises who want to take their relationship to the next level but are worried about… you know. Nomf.

You play as one partner or the other, and use a text parser to give simple (but not too simple; they notice and get annoyed if you give one-word “Yeahs” at everything) answers to their statements, or you can smile, look surprised, hold hands, kiss, etc. Your partner has something that’s been weighing on them and that they need to get off their chest, and your job is to hear them out and respond appropriately. It’s sort of like the infamous Facade, only with far easier-to-take-seriously graphics and sound, fewer bugs (ironically,) and less of an overreaction when you ask about melons.
