Golden Light

Golden Light

Holy cow, this game is my aesthetic. I turned off the pixelation; as fun as it is, it’s difficult to deal with the entire time. This game isn’t scary as much as it is a weird B-movie with occasional jump scares. I love the ambiguous storyline; this being a relatively small community it’s got a lot of mystery in the world and gameplay.

It has a lot of personality and the devs continue to do a good job in updating it. It’s a survival rogue-like at heart; you have to make decisions as to how you’ll survive, and there isn’t a lot of room for equipment. Dying can be discouraging, but (at least in easy mode) you can go through the entrance of the biome you died in and pop back into the level you were just at. There’s really not a whole lot to it once you understand what’s going on. It’s just a fun, addictive game.

Played this for a little bit and genuinely had fun with it! My friends and I found the sound and ragdoll effects funny. I was surprised to be in a spaceship for level 3 but it made for some more funny moments as I crashed the ship repeatedly (the controls were a little hard to get used to).

A first-person sword action game.

The game is completed when the condition is achieved and you reached the destination.

There are 3 levels in total.

Level 1: Beat two enemy bosses and reach the goal.

Level 2: Find Lilia somewhere, rescue her and reach the goal.

Level 3: Maneuver a fighter plane and shoot down 30 enemy planes.

A few non-exclusive store bought assets here and there, but overall is a lot of fun! Loads of levels, secrets and enemy types. All weapons are fun to use and ammo tends to be quite plentiful.

MadSpace: To Hell and Beyond

MadSpace: To Hell and Beyond

Very interesting old-school shooter with great visual and audio style. There’s a lot to take in in terms of controls, and the opening rail shooter segment is pretty meh. The meat of the game however is plenty of fun, and absolutely weird, which is a huge plus for me. The enemies have interesting designs, and there’s more non-Euclidean geometry than you could shake a career theoretical physicist at. A large selection of weapons, 10 of which can be held at once, and 2 simultaneous equips give solid combat variety, and even ‘boss’ weapons can be acquired. Bosses are my main gripe, actually. There’s only a few, but they are all equipped with the ‘Tracker’ which fires a cluster of explosive energy balls that will track you to the end of the goddamn stage and then oneshot you.

I am probably one of a handful of people to actually sit down and finish this game and let me tell you i am only giving it a thumbs up because steam doesn’t have a meh option in the reviews. It will take about 13 hours to beat.

This game while interesting is kinda frustrating to play. There are 26 levels to the game (Alphabet A-Z) and the main draw of the gameplay is Non Euclidean Geometry (see Lovecraft). The story you are greeted with is a massive wall of text that quickly becomes boring and nonsensical because it scrolls too fast. The game then decides to throw you into a FMV on rails shooter that takes FOREVER to finish and if you die at any point during it you START AT THE BEGINNING! It’s maddening, I can see what he was going for at the time of release, but now you should be able to just skip this part as it’s supremely boring. If you manage to make it through that you will finally get into the more interesting part of the game. This game has some very interesting level design to it and you see quickly why it’s called Madspace, both because of the crazy impossible hard to deal with level layout and how the game just pisses you off. Be prepared to take at least 1-2 hours for some levels depending on how lost you are. There is a map, but for the most part its completely useless especially in some of the later levels with layers. There was a level I can’t remember I think U or V where you are running around a giant square level that has tons of layers, you need to run around this thing looking for 3 switches to open it. It took almost 3 hours for me to find and open that door.

Receiver 2

Receiver 2

I recommend this game, albeit it has some issues. I’ll elaborate them further when appropriate.

First of all, I haven’t finished the game yet. I’m currently at level 3 “sleepwalker”. Which is due to how many times had to re-level up. I’ll come to this later.

This game isn’t made for your comfort:

While I say that, it isn’t a bad thing. It’s clear that devs made it this way to relay some points. But as you learn to play this game it might lead to some frustration, I just wanted to put that out there.

I played the original Receiver a while back and wrote a review of it, recommending it to gun aficionados who were looking for a game focused on realistic guns rather than gamey guns. That point stands firm in the sequel. If you want to adjust for failure to eject and double feed malfunctions after manually loading your magazine and chambering a round, you’ll love Receiver 2.

–———————————————————

Receiver 2 claims to simulate every moving part in the gun. They certainly did get them all in the model. Every gun is designed to match manufacturer specifications, flaws included. Take a fall with a Colt Single Action Army and you risk it firing if the hammer wasn’t at half-c0 ck. (I love censorship).
