Soldat 2

Soldat 2

It’s a good, fun game, but still lacks a fair bit of refinement.

Hit registration is absolutely horrendous at the moment. You throw a knife at someone, you can see it hits the mark, because it then stops and drops to the floor, but no damage is done.

Similar thing with sniper rifles. You see the bullet pass through the opponent and it does zero damage.

Grenades. Sometimes you hit a person with all 3 grenades and they still don’t die, but they throw just one back at you and poof, you’re dead.

Player balancing system is just silly. When you join a server with an even number of players, you become the poor soul that is going to be tossed back and forth between teams whenever the team you’re in exceeds the other team’s score by 2 (flag caps or bases occupied). You might get thrown into the opposing team just as they’re about to lose. Lovely.

I wouldn’t recommend buying this, even if it’s for nostalgia purposes.

The game is literally dead, whenever I attempt to play there’s noone online on any servers - I’ll join a game and play with bots for a while and occasionally 1 or 2 people may join but then leave after 10-15 minutes.

There’s no Oceanic community, that’s for sure. The only community is a few Russians and Germans that sometimes populate their server, but other than that - it’s essentially dead.

There’s also no effort to boost the player population, such as creating communities for specific regions, simple things such as in the Soldat 2 Discord you can create a rank specifically for their region so people can tag @Oceania or @Australia “let’s populate a server” - there’s none of that or anything close.

This amazing game is not only nostalgic, but it is incredibly fun. You can play alone, you can play with friends, you can play online and local co-op. This game not only brings the nostalgic feeling of the 1980’s in a wonderful, funny and entertaining way, but it is also challenging and has many play styles, characters, and weapons to choose from.

Long story short, this game is an overpriced, junky flash game, at least at the time of this review.

The game has its humor and it’s clearly visible what it wants to be, but it completely falls on its face. I can give it credit for its humor and the nice art and all, but mechanically, this is a complete mess. I’ve been waiting until I was finished the campaign to write this review, and it was an honest pain. Bugs a-plenty (This isn’t Early Access, and is $12.99 as of this post), locked aiming to only cardinal and diagonal directions (I don’t care what your piss-poor reasoning behind having it be this way is, it sounds more like an excuse than an actual reason), glitchy as all hell UI (Ammo literally never showed correctly for me what my current magazine was, as well as a bunch of times where dialogue windows would cover the game), and just poor balance (Difficulty is easy in the first world, ramps pretty high in comparison for the second, levels off with an okay ramp-up for the third and fourth, and then just out of nowhere becomes absurd on the fifth). Most of the bosses just seem lazy, especially the Killionaire and Ghoul Squad ones. The champion enemies that drop health and ammo have a crazy-high health multiplier to the point that it takes several mags to destroy one if the wrong enemy happens to get it, and in the case of the last world, if the floating head enemies are a champion, they have health equal to that of a miniboss, and still never actually drop their equipment. Melee is a completely useless function for the most part, the character differences don’t really make a noticeable impact until you’re forced to change your playstyle because of the level’s enemies, guns don’t very well describe how they are in comparison to others, despite their being stat windows for each, each weapon requires you to essentially run around in circles and endlessly kill enemies to grind for the money to buy them, instead of just being accomplishment rewards, or having the prices be within check. I haven’t tried the multiplayer, but if it’s as bad as the singleplayer is with its glitches and problems, I dread to think about it. There’s so many issues for a game that’s supposed to be finished that it’d be laughable if it wasn’t so frustrating and disappointing trying to, in vain, have an enjoyable time with it.

Aimbeast

Aimbeast

This is one of the most consistent game I am playing currently, and the only aim-trainer I’ve ever found useful. Because of this, over the passed few months, I have noticed a drastic increase in my ability to aim with precision. I use this trainer mostly for warming up before I play Overwatch. I will play 1-2 hours before I head into Competitive mode. I was able to move up from Gold to Platinum within the last month.

The nice thing about this game is that it has a 1:1 aim adjustment system for multiple games. You can import your settings from each game for an similar aim experience. If I have a certain aim setting for Overwatch, and I want to translate that setting to Apex Legends, there are in-game tools to help with that.

What I thought would be a good alternative to Kovaaks with cool features ends up to be a dead project moving at a snails pace. No updates for a long time, seasons remain unchanged, one of the features that sounded cool (AI bots to train with) is now DLC, and over a year for any form of content makes this a bad choice over Kovaaks.

Also the community is not there, it lacks in scenarios for training and the “good” ones are just janky copies of Kovaaks (with some of them not even working) So if you’re going to train your aim just close this and get Kovaaks. I gave it an honest go, but the lack of content, community and dead discord make this a hard “no” from me.

Originally, when I wrote this review, the game was still pretty early on and I had just bought it after hearing some positive feedback from let’s players that I follow. As a hardcore FPS junkie, the idea really appealed to me - it’s a racing FPS game. You move as fast as you can and shoot as precisely as you can to get the fastest time possible. The character design and general aesthetic of the game, although rudimentary in early development, looked and still looks excellent and is very unique (I LOVE the helmet/HUD and suit, like a jet pilot mixed with SWAT armor). Of course, I really enjoyed the game. I felt really proud getting all platinum times, and it was still fun even when I continously threw myself at the same level over and over only to get eaten alive by the deadly maze of lazers and bullets. Think of the experience like a US version of Lovely Planet.

Overall I would give it a solid 6/10 “It has potential”

Read the review if to see why I gave it a 6/10

I see potential though if this was the final product I would be very disappointed since the lack of optimization and the way that they are trying to revive the quake/unreal tournament style of fast paced games with a low amount of content for the 15 euros that you pay compared to for example Counter-strike:GO (Which is 1 Euro cheaper) then this is garbage because in :GO you can even make a profit, it has a pro scene, it has a matchmaking system, it has multiple game modes, it runs well on pretty much everything (My windows tablet can run it..) and it has continued support for the game even to this date 3 years after it’s full release! and if this game continues in low pace it has been in for the rest of it’s cycle then I don’t see it ever being released because someday it will stop giving them money because they didn’t add enough when the playerbase was interested in it which I think none of us would like to see but I have posted some recommendations for what it could need like for example: Mod support, The mod support is the thing that COULD save it from dying because they’ve already wasted half a year with nearly adding nothing I still see no other primary hell there isn’t even secondaries yet!! Also the reason I bought it was because of it said FPS & Competitive which I love when they are put together properly but this is just something strange like it seems like a weird idea they had (Their thoughts): Hey let’s make a “Competitive” game where they play for spaces in the leaderboard! ffs what where they thinking as soon as there comes hacks for this then it would be a nightmare! A f*cking nightmare! Like then people couldn’t tell which one is real and which one is faked which defeats the purpose of having it in the first place! and then when their only game mode is gone then there is nothing else to play and who wants to spend 10+ hours competing against their friend in a game where they can only see each others stats and names but nothing else! But I see where they are coming from but they are trying to take something from Trials and putting it into the FPS genre or taking Harm’s Way or whatever that 360 game was called by Doritos but without the multiplayer! Also the feel of having to run till you have to turn makes it feel like a racing game! Also the running which I just mentioned doesn’t feel like running since there is no head bob at all like try playing for example Minecraft without it because to me it just doesn’t feel like running though (though) the gun play feels solid and the movement seems standard but just not put into the proper environment but in conclusion it feels very lonely since you have not the smallest amount of sign of multiplayer currently

Hero Team

Hero Team

Hero Team is a PVP 2D shooter with online and couch multiplayer, and modes inspired by the greatest classic shooters. It’s the spiritual sequel to the 2011 game Stick ‘Em Up 2, but with online play, super-tight controls, the speed cranked up to 11, and an abundance of maps, weapons, and upgrades.

Later this year Hero Team will be launching in Early Access.

What will be in the Early Access version?

  • online multiplayer with dedicated servers

  • local couch multiplayer for 2-4 players (with the option to play online together)

  • actual artwork by real-life artists instead of the basic-ass prototype art you see above

  • multiplayer modes inspired by the greatest multiplayer shooters, including:

    • bomb defusal

    • area control

    • team deathmatch

    • battle royale

  • a robust upgrade system with weapons and abilities that can be assembled in a multitude of combinations with meaningful game-changing effects

  • absolutely no pay-to-win ever: all upgrades are earned exclusively in-game

  • numerous characters which are customizable with free and premium paid cosmetic options

  • practice maps that are speedrunnable solo or co-op

  • all the quality of life features you’d expect like party support, private lobbies, and Discord integration (sorry that stuff isn’t ready for the Steam Game Festival build)

What’s coming after Early Access?

Regular drops of new maps, modes, characters, and upgrades to keep things minty fresh.

What’s the setting/lore?

It’s the mid-2040s, and these days the main threat in the world is IN Equity Inc. They started as a venture capital firm investing in exotic technology like human genome editing and hyperintelligence augmentation. When they got bored of the umpteenth ethics investigation against them, they went full supervillain and declared their offshore research base to be a sovereign “corporate state” under the ~benevolent~ leadership of the Board of Directors. Hero Team was formed as an elite international force to keep them in check, and are first on the scene whenever IN Equity are attempting to steal a nuclear reactor or executing a hostile takeover of a small nation.

QUAKE III: Team Arena

QUAKE III: Team Arena

Team Arena is Quake 3 Arena but with different graphics. I don’t like this version of Quake as much as I do the others. It doesn’t feel as polished as the others. The online portion is mostly just bots killing each other. The online community is hard to find. I have played this quite a bit and there is just something missing. The online play is ridged and not as smooth as I would like. The game doesn’t have a single player but it does have alot of Multiplayer maps and bots for you to kill. The sounds take away from what it should really sound like. It feels like a couple notches down from were it should be. I have enjoyed my playing of this game but not as much as previous Quake’s. I suggest to get this if you have friends to play but if your getting it thinking there are alot of people online then you are going to be disappointed.

Quake III Team Arena is a decent expansion pack for what it is but it isn’t quite as fun to go back to as say Quake III Arena

Pros the new game modes are pretty fun for the most part

Some of the new maps are pretty good

It’s pretty convienient to have prerecored voice clips to communicate with your team

The Chaingun and Nailgun are both great additions to the Quake III arsenal

The powerups like guard and scout are pretty cool

Cons

Some of these game modes just aren’t that much fun with bots

Some of the maps stink either there to crampt and I get lost or there to big and it takes an eternity to get to the other side
