Switch ‘N’ Shoot

Switch ‘N’ Shoot

Switch ‘n’ Shoot’s my kind of candy.

The kind of candy that has a fine layer of sugar on the outside, and a thick, highly acidulated core. Except it’s a game, so what’s exploding in my mouth is nostalgia. Well, you get the idea. At least I hope so.

The soundtrack alone makes me feel like I’m playing Gradius again.

When it comes to the gameplay, it took a moment to get used to the 1-button control, but it works really well, and makes for a fast-paced, nervous gameplay I feel a large part of arcade retro developers have trouble putting together these days.

In memory of Pilot NOUPH, first to reach the elusive Sector 7.

I think I stumbled across this one entirely by accident while searching the market for N++ trading cards. The name caught me, the concept sounded pretty neat, and when I plugged in to have a go, I had a grand old time. Arcade as a business may have faded from the spotlight, but there’s always gonna be some remnant of what those machines gave us. In Switch’s case, it’s simple controls and a difficulty curve that starts cool, then ramps to red hot. Your single button casual tapping becomes a series of frantic clicks as you try to keep your cool while dancing right next to a bio-laser and the suddenly firey side of the screen. Then you die and your constant hype-man and weird face maker of a commander reads a single-line obituary commending your efforts. Slam another quarter in! You’ll get further next time.

I’m not a shmup kind of girl, but even for me, I found this game very enjoyable.

It’s hard, but also very rewarding, you simply cannot stop playing.

If you don’t have a lot of time and yet want to experience some dope gameplay, this game is for you.

At its basic level it’s fun enough to play. Controls well, things work, not buggy, etc. But as a score attack it’s really not ideal. It’s achilles heel is RNG! Bad RNG? You’ll be given a spawn far away from your reach to connect your combo, get bad weapon (Don’t pick V-Shot, please, its coverage for the sides and the back is BAD), or spawns that are more about chunky enemies than plentiful popcorns. Scoring and rougelite is like water and oil: They don’t work!

The end boss is fun enough, though and the soundtrack is nice. The fact that the game switches its music for each new run is also nice.

I had this game on my wishlist and once it went in the sale I picked it up straight away. I have only played it for like an hour and I can already say this game is Awesome! It reminds me alot of Project X on the Amiga from back in the day except not as ludicrously hard! LOL Seriously the graphics are superb, the music is just brilliant and the gameplay is tight! I am so glad I eventually picked it up. If you love your old school shooters you need to own this game immediately, its as simple as that.

This is a really nice surprise. An excellent old school SHMUP with modern graphics. I’m just diving into the game but can already tell a lot of love has been put into it (about 7 years of love according to the devs). It’s an outstanding attempt to bring back the simple feelings of the past and quite a feat considering it’s the devs first venture into this genre. RFA indeed feels very reminiscent of R-type mixed with a few other 90’s style shooters. Leaderboards are present for score chasers with 3 difficulty modes to compete in though I’d recommend Hard mode for purists ;-) Looking forward to placing on the leaderboards!

Great port with one glaring omission: the lack of 4:3 resolution support. Running the game in full screen on my 4:3 monitor results in letterboxed 16:9, which causes two significant issues:

  1. Darius Gaiden cannot be played in true fullscreen at its native aspect ratio. You can either play in stretched letterboxed 16:9, or in letterboxed-and-pillarboxed 4:3. No matter what, it won’t fill the screen.

  2. Multi-monitor mode for the games that support it cannot be correctly lined up and scaled, because the “seams” of the screens don’t correspond with the monitor resolutions. Stretching the game past the internal boundaries of the game resolution just results in the image being cropped, even though there is screen space there; said screen space is just black. I presume this is also an issue on multi-monitor 16:9 displays.

EDIT: It’s been almost a week and nothing regarding possible issues is coming, kinda scared they aren’t saying anything about it, not recommending until they at least give words for the issues on the port (That is, if M2 stops reposting Senjin Aleste Fanart in their goddamn Twitter…)

The price is quite excessive if they don’t fix these issues (It’s 2021, these issues shouldn’t be there in the first place, no, “M2 is not experienced with PC, that’s why BASIC stuff happened” is not an excuse).

Not a perfect port, but it’s been less than 2 days since it was released.

I have only played for a short time so far, but am really enjoying the game. I can see myself sinking many hours on this to climb up the leader board.

Update: This game is dangerously addictive.

Dragon Blaze

This is my favorite games from PSIKYO! Great port even there’re something missing like restart button for stage.

What is stand out for me for this port and I really have to praise CC are the quality of sprite and sound just amazing!

this port even came with a manual no more wondering how game mechanic work for now fork who want to try the game!

Online ranking working fine! (Like now there’re like 70 people on ranking)

What I really want is a leaderboard for CO-OP and make steam remote play work with this game would be nice.

Dragon Blaze is a pretty good shooter, but it is one of the more difficult ones. I can withstand a lot of bullets, but Dragon Blaze is over the top. The game plays smoothly and is responsive at 60fps. Once again, the developer has created options for us to make it through an old school shooter such as unlimited continues, extra lives, etc. without throwing our hands up in despair. Allowing the Dragon to be released provides additional strategy for providing more offense. You’ll need the extra help.

Very cool! A good mix of FPS with shoot up, with a very psychedelic look, is quite challenging. These neon lights look like 80s movies trying to imagine what the future looks like

Really cool shooter game, flashy LSD visuals, two shooting patterns, one frontal and one mouse driven, very hard, but very satisfying to play. Climb the leaderboards, fight harder and harder challenges. The Shooting Ships bundle is really filled with little delightful gems!

Astoundingly Awesome Shoot Em Up, Iv’e still got a lot of practising to do and i am only on the first main level, what i have seen so far is very impressive, with great smooth Joy-Pad controls which also makes you practise because you have your main fire weapon and a target you also can control with the right analogue stick when selected to destroy out of reach enemies and a super weapon, you can change your speed as well on your ship to make it go faster or slower, Totally mind blowing graphics and very good music (Drum & Bass, Dub-step style), The more I progress i will keep adding to my review, Overall i highly recommend this game with lots of potential even in its early access stage…lots of practise and lots of fun…Buy this game if you love shoot em ups..Excellent work..Love it :)
