This game is great fun! For anyone who is into arcade style score chasers, this is a must have! At 1$, this is a total bargain. It is repetitive, but, somehow, that isn’t really a negative with this game. It really works with it. It is light-hearted from the art style, to the music. Lots of fun and a good way to just jump into a game and unwind.

Ballpoint Universe - Infinite

Ballpoint Universe - Infinite

Remember back at elementary school when you or some other kid in class used to draw little planes, cars, tanks and people (usually stick-men) on books blank areas? Adding little dots as weapon fire making them fight in an imaginary combat, most of the time resulting in a page full of smudges as explosions happened and stuff were ‘destroyed’! Well if you miss that, then Ballpoint Universe: Infinite is right on ‘point’ to satisfy all the doddle commanders out there!

Ballpoint Universe: Infinite is an arcade shooter with some platforming action and lots of upgrades to choose from! To my big surprise, misled by the ‘infinite’ of the title, the game has a lovely story that you will uncover step by step as you play. You are a newdrawn doodle exploring an ‘almost’ 2,5D world (there is the concept of depth and you will notice some models to be closer of further away from the camera in each level), in which you will find doddle npcs to talk to, missions to take, a lot of exploring and some platform jumping. At the beginning you may feel that you have no idea why you do what you do or what is your purpose, these are revealed later on the story. There are tons of collectibles to find called ‘golden doddles’, some hidden in plain sight, while others through fake walls, also acing a mission will grant you one golden doddle! The main game, the shooter part, happens during the numerous story missions or at the infinite mode. The infinite mode, as the name hints, you play till you die. You gain resources called ‘ink’ by destroying stuff and you can see all enemies and bosses appearing in this mode. Additionally missions award you ink depending on your performance and for any destroyed enemy, you can always repeat a mission to improve it or to get some ink by the defeated enemies of that mission. With the ink you can upgrade and improve your ship, so you do better at missions or infinite mode thus more ink and more upgrades! Your ship consist of 4 parts, 2 weapons, 1 wing or hull and 1 nose. There are many weapons, from melee blades and shields to shotguns and rockets, each with its very own design, effectiveness and fire mode! The wing affects your hitpoints and may add special abilities, like ink magnet, to your craft. Lastly the nose defines what your special ability will do and how many times you can use it in succession. Each and every part is upgradeable up to level 3, upgrading weapons and noses will increase the overall damage of that part, while wings add durability and special skill effectiveness.

Ballpoint Universe - Infinite is a horizontally scrolling space shooter. However, it’s not like most of the classics. While there are plenty of bullets to dodge, pinpoint movements to make, and crazy bosses to beat, this game adds in a few things that make the genre a bit easier to swallow for the less skilled players… like me.

This game helps ease the difficulty of the genre by giving you upgrades rather than powerups. Basically, when you destroy enemies, they drop ink. You collect the ink and use it as currency in the shops between rounds. In these shops, you can buy and equip parts to your ship, with a total of four parts. There are two weapon slots, one for the top and one for the bottom. There’s also a wing slot, which is generally a passive ability, and also a nose slot, which is a special weapon that you have to build up power for. You build up that power by killing enemies in a row without getting hit. The weapon slots are interesting because there are three basic weapon types: guns, shields, and melee weapons. Guns are obviously projectiles. These are good for ranged combat but enemies with shields will block bullets. That’s where melee weapons come in. Melee weapons break shields and generally do decent damage, but they are rather slow and require you to get close enough to the enemy to use them, which can get you killed on the quicker enemies. Shields are used for blocking and/or deflecting enemy fire. These are especially good in levels with lots of firing foes. Each type has their use and knowing which works best for you and for the situation will help you complete the missions. Also, buying new items and upgrades will grant you aillies. There is a gun ally, nose ally, and wing ally, each with their own passive benefits. Once you get them you keep them for good and can level them up a bit as well. All of this gives you an incentive to keep playing because even if a mission is really hard, you can always get more items and upgrades to help you, as well as customize yourself differently for new strategies.

Freedom Finger

Freedom Finger

The silly and offensive art style is what drew me to this game, not the musicians or voice actors. Despite its cartoony look Freedom Finger is a proper shmup. You have a ship and you shoot enemies with plenty of bullets, enemies and walls to be dodged. The game has two unique game mechanics for a shmup namely grabbing and punching. It’s a bit unusual but it is quite fun. It allows for a lot of different ways to play a level.

Fortunately there’s no shop with upgrades for your ship, you can follow the story but also just hop into any level and start competing for the leaderboard. If you want an upgrade go grab an enemy ship!

Very cartoonish. Kinda of reminds me of the adult cartoons you’d see on Adult Swim.

Whether you are a fan of the Shoot em' up genre or just looking for something to play with your friends on a game night this is a nice game to play!

This game has fast-paced action with varied level design that will keep you playing it until the end, Keep in mind that this is a short but sweet game (Just like the classics such a Gradius) although considering the price tag that’s totally fair.

Although good this game is not perfect, some times the game throws you mandatory dialogue between a stage or before a boss battle and don’t get me wrong I love the characters and the great story they built here but once you want to replay this game or a stage it can become annoying, a skip button for those would be excellent.

☑️Challenging Shoot Em Up.

☑️An emotional story.

☑️Fun game to Co-op / Remote Play

❌Online-Multiplayer

B.ARK is a very colorful and cute throwback to the classic shoot em up games from the golden ages. Games like U.N. Squadron, R-Type and many others that hit’s a special place in a 80s/90s kids heart.

The game comes with a rather unusual twist, there is a solid emotional story about the crew of animals that have been lost in space after their team of scientists detached their space ship after being caught and pulled back down to earth by the aliens that were invading the planet.

When I saw this game appear on Steam, a long forgotten memory came back to me! This is actually my very fist video game! I remember when my parents bought me my first PC, this “new game” was delivered with the PC. I didn’t like it because it was too difficult (for a 9 year old). The cutscenes are excellent, beautiful cartoony style, but the gameplay itself is a very bland railshooter … which is fine, I guess … but if you don’t care to play this game (which is a challenge if approached without nostalgia glasses), then just watch the cutscenes on YouTube. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2536351711

A neat endless beat ‘em up with a little bit of mobile rhythm game DNA that wears its influences on its sleeve.

It’s a little buggy in places, but that’s easy to forgive considering this is the developer’s first game and the pricetag.

While I haven’t finished the current content quite yet, what’s there so far is quite promising. I’ve been a danmaku shmup enthusiast for ages and, while I usually tend to prefer having a tiny hitbox, no shields, and one-hit death, the way this game integrates the shields, health, and movement speed into passive mechanics you can choose between is definitely intriguing, especially when paired with the ability to combine a wide variety of shot types.

The pacing could use some work, with the difficulty being very slow to ramp up (especially for someone already comfortable navigating through curtains of bullets) and with some of the levels feeling like they drag on for a bit longer than is welcome. Because the pacing is already being worked on, though, it’s very likely this will be ironed out before its final release. There doesn’t appear to be any storytelling to speak of in the game, which made it challenging for me to stay engaged, but there is the potential that later on, the gameplay will be enough of a challenge to entertain me all on ts own.

I have been following this game since it’s inception. What really stuck out was the graphics. It’s all hand painted with allot of detail in the environment. The game is a combination of Pulstar and Blazing star with a touch of R-type. it works really well. i found myself addicted to play the game again when i died. oh yes you will die, but you will make it a bit further each time you try again. That is what a shmup is all about. It also helps that the sound effect are really crunchy with great visual effects.
