PAWARUMI

PAWARUMI

Pawarumi is a fantastic vertical shmup and one of the best of all time. Great graphics, great music, three different difficulty settings with the easiest being super easy and laid back for newcomers and the hardest being perfect for those looking for a traditional bullet hell challenge featuring a crazy true final boss encounter at the end w/ a true ending.

Includes an in-game gallery achievement menu, a Practice mode to play individual stages (and being able to go for achievements that can be unlocked on those specific stages). The game’s three color weapon/enemy color system is quick and easy to pick up on and the game implements the system perfectly, allowing you to score more points, refill your health meter (Shield) and refill your bomb meter (Super). Each stage is really well designed and different from one another, with each section throwing something entirely new at you beyond just new enemy ship types. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fun and challenging vertical shmup with tons of replay value =)

I kickstarted this game and haven’t been disappointed. To call it an indie game really doesn’t do it justice - the level of polish is very high. Nice 2.5D graphics that are reminiscent of Radiant Silvergun or Zero Gunner 2, interesting weapon mechanics and a deep scoring system really make Pawarumi stand out among ‘indie’ games, and with just about the right level of difficulty not to scare beginners off. The game has 5 levels each with it’s own unique theme - first level is a snow base, second is a weapons factory set in industry and lava, find the rest out for yourself :-p. With mid bosses and bosses that you can blow bits off to maximize score, anyone who’s played shooters before will be right at home. Only real omission is the lack of a 2 player mode. Definitely worth £12.99 of anyone’s money!

League Space

Well, it is a multiplayer only game with microtransactions and no single player.

The server menu is one of the worst laid out menus I have ever seen.

I couldn’t play a game or even enter the arena because you have to have more than one player to start.

Just terrible.

I love very simplistic games and this was one of them. The gameplay, design and soundtrack

give the game that cool retro feeling. And the story is there just to give the

gameplay some meaning, wich works just fine. All in all it was worth my time and investment.

I really hope theres a sequel coming, because I ran trough the chapters really fast without much difficulty.

So a bit more chapters and more difficult ones with maybe some new enemy types would be fun to see.

Also it would perhaps be more logical to have a leaderboard for each blood rain map instead of just one.

Played the game for 2 1/2 hours, here are my thoughts.

Fairly simple top-down shooter. Minimalistic and easy to get into. The upgrade system is a nice touch, giving your more bullets per shot and eventually more health to survive longer. Has the arcade feel and a difficulty that isn’t too hard. Additional endless modes just let you enjoy the game and try out changes to your build without interfering with your storyline game. The “retro” screen effect option is a nice touch as well.

The enemies are reskins of each other as you progress in levels, so there’s really no variety. Also too a good chunk of the enemies have an effective aimbot on you; they will lock onto you instantly and follow your movements. This can make battles against larger enemies super awkward. The controls aren’t well-defined and you don’t know that you need to hold both mouse buttons to shoot. Controller support is non-existant even though it says fully supported. Also there is no new game feature or a way to overwrite your current game due to the cloud saves, so unless you pull some Steam trickery the game has almost no reply value outside of the endless modes.

Iridium

Iridium

One of the best Uridium clones on the PC to date. Gorgeous explosions and hectic gameplay. Recommended! (8/10)

Iridium feels like a true successor to classic Uridium. While this is inspired by retro, don’t let that put you off. The game feels fresh and modern.

The game is split into sub-levels, which consist of space and cavern/indoor sections. There is a good mixture of small fighters and mid-range frigates throughout the levels, constantly altering your play-style. Each area finishes with a huge capital ship battle, which is in the style of Uridium.

While the difficulty level is quite high compared to modern games, it is well balanced and feels fair. Unlike old-school shooters you don’t lose all power-ups (and hope!) on a single death. You re-spawn close to where you died, allowing you to attempt the section again.

I.O.R.C Impact Orbital Rescue Crew

I.O.R.C Impact Orbital Rescue Crew

A twist on the side scrolling shooter, in this game you have to fly around dealing with falling space junk.

I found this game quite challenging and there is a good amount of strategy involved in deciding what aspects to deal with first, such as putting out fires or breaking apart the debris.

I found it satisfying to finally beat a level, after a few attempts, adjusting my strategy to deal with the different types of falling wreckage.

Overall a challenging and fun game.

The game has menu problems that make it UNPLAYABLE at all past level 2. Strangely, the demo did not have this problem. The developer has had a long time to fix the problem, but it appears he’s promoting some other game now.

I really wanted to like this game because I love shooters like this, but it just feels unpolished and has too many little frustrations. Upgrades are uninspired and cost WAY too much to max out requiring a lot of grinding. It seems there are so many bonuses and upgrades that should obviously be included, but aren’t for some reason. I can overlook little UI issues (Why does the audio volume range from -1% - 104%?), but it just gets repetitive and becomes a grind. I quit near the end once I got to a slow escort mission that would require a slow grind to upgrade my ship to finish.
