ASTRO AQUA KITTY

ASTRO AQUA KITTY

Surprised this doesn’t have a higher rating. Maybe people are disappointed because they are comparing it to the first game and this game is very different. The first game was great because it has these crunchy controls with old school arcade-paced levels. This game is not like that. Unlike Milk Mine Defender, where you can only go left and right in an infinite loop, these are open maps where you have to hunt around and collect specific things. Also unlike Milk Mine, the powerups are not temporary but are items which can be collected and upgraded. Personally, I love it. It’s like if Star Fox was a 16-bit rpg with all the little side-quests and boss battles. But if you were expecting a continuation of Milk Mine, I can see why it would be disappointing.

Now I have finished it, I can say it worst its price. It is a very lovely sequel and a quality product for an indy title.

ASTRO AQUA KITTY is such an improvement compared to the previous one.

Now it is an Action RPG shoot-em-up with classes and multiples weapons. An immersive and even more cute artistic direction, a minded and polished level design that increase in size level after level and give you various tasks, all served by very good musics.

Devs made it with great care and you can feel it.

If I could describe this game in one word… it’d be…

Lazy.

Look, I wanted to like this game, I love boss arena bullet hell games. One hit kill? Bring it freaking on! Taste the full color spectrum of mythical birds with unique elemental stuff? I’ll get my box of cereal ready! HELL YEAH WE’RE GONNA PECK SOME… oh.

So by boss Arena you mean have tough (high hp) enemy sway side to side with an attack gimmick. Ok…not much of a boss but ok…do they multi phase at least? Well if by multi fast you mean they throw in an additional attack and attack faster then…sure. They have a “Final” attack that if you do enough damage to them you can bypass…and that’s about it.

First of all: This is not a classic Shoot’em Up, because all you will be doing here is one bossfight after the other. There is no real story behind it, and if there was maybe a small table of text in the beginning of the game, I have totally forgotten about it, as it doesn’t matter anyway. This game is about pure action and reaction spread across 100 levels and even more challenge levels (if you dare to try them).

Although each of these levels consists of a relatively small amount of assets when it comes to background or enemy types, they are mixed up constantly so the game manages through this restriction to give the player a completely new challenge on each end every level. Where in between there are next to no loading times, wich makes the game nonstop action and because of that very enjoyable and fast paced itself.

The game in a nutshell tries to be a “Risk of Rain” from the Top down perspective.

Does it do that well?

Mostly Yes. characters play diverse, peaks are meaningfull. The Time Vs Stronger Enemies Mechanic works fine and creates challenge.

Each level you have To gather certain objects on the map, to start a teleporter and fight of enemies and eventually a boss. The gathering is a rather repetitive Task, but since you only have hints at the teleporter parts position (But at least DO have those) you can search and find them systematicaly. I wish there would be more and different obstracles on the map though.

THIS IS A MOVEMENT BASED FPS GAME. I’m seeing a lot of bad reviews about speed-hackers and there’s no such thing. Think of it sorta like Titanfall’s movement. Slide hopping is the main movement mechanic and certain weapons and classes allow even more movement opportunities (shotgun/rocket jumping, wall jumping, wall grinding).

As someone that’s played the game for about 2 years now, I can attest to how addicting the game and its mechanics are. The community is tight-knit and welcoming (especially on Twitch), there’s market and trading features similar to CS:GO, there’s a comp scene with weekly cash-prize tournaments, there’s loads of ways to customize your game including custom mods, scopes, and overlays, and there’s an endless amount of content to be played with the thousands of custom games people have made.

Real player with 671.2 hrs in game

Krunker is a hard game to get into. Public lobbies are full of stompers and custom games need basic understanding of game mechanics that, of course, no one tells you about. Im going to try to explain the basics of the game, in case you dont want to make your own research.

The most basic thing you need to know about is slide hoping. Its easy to download the game and in your first game get confused, seeing everyone around you flying like if they were cheaters. Most of them arent. You see, unlike in games like Quake or Counter Strike, strafing wont matter while slidehopping. Landing while crouching will make you slide, providing you a nice speed boost that you can chain to do a “slidehop”. Jump, hold shift and a few seconds after you land jump again. This is something you will do a lot. Actually, all the time. Get used to it. Also keep in mind that some classes like the SMG can walljump or “rocketjump”…? with the shotgun.

Solbane

Solbane

Solbane is a boss-rush space shooter that blends the retro arcade experience with modern RPG elements, preserving the arcade gameplay feel with upgraded modern visuals.

Journey throughout the solar system in a story-driven setting to eliminate 18 bosses, each with its own complex mechanics that will regularly demand a change of play style.

Evolve your spacecraft and gameplay from a vast arsenal of 96 abilities and three pilots, each with their own unique solutions to deal with the threats of the Solar system.

  • Play as the Aggressor, Valkyrie, or Architect through a threatened system and bring an end to the solar destruction.

  • Make your own ability build which is designed to heavily alter your playstyle depending on the abilities you’ll choose.

  • Every boss is vastly different from one another, having different strengths and weaknesses, which will require you to adapt through trial and error.

Build example #1:

When playing as the Aggressor you can customize a melee-based build which involves getting very close and personal with the adversary. This class has a giant hammer attached on its front that can be rotated around the ship, making a devastating whirlwind. Coupled with other short-ranged abilities, it embraces a high risk high reward gameplay.

Build example #2:

The Architect can have a rapid-fire playstyle by utilizing as many drones as possible. These drones are mini versions of the Architect and the more they can be generated, the more projectiles will be launched at your enemy. Strength in numbers is what this build is all about.

To summarize, I really like this game and its style. It does have a few bugs and could use some cosmetic adjustments.

I’ll list the things I liked first.

The game play is simple and intuitive, and the game itself is a style that’s common and easy so anyone can play this game. It hit a certain nostalgia for me for 2 games I haven’t played in a long time that I immensely enjoyed when I was a kid, so that was a nice experience.

I like the more minimal designs of the character and monsters, there’s already a lot going on with you shooting and dodging and explosions and fire so not having a busy or complicated design is really nice, and it really leaves room for my imagination to take over and render the monsters in my own way.
