Stories of Liane

Stories of Liane

Interesting game and looking forward to the next chapters. One thing that surprised me is that though the date is 300 years in our future, when I stepped into the office I saw stacks of reams of paper, a photocopier that would fit in any of our offices today, desk telephones and fans, etc. I honestly would expect the office equipment to be maybe vaguely recognisable and I would not expect to find a copier and reams of paper. Surely in 300 years there will truly be paperless offices. When I look into the future I expect to see the future. Hell, the original Star Trek did much better than this.

Please read (I don’t want this to come off sassy):

So I have a medium to beefy PC, with a higher end GPU. I also do 3d Modelling, animation, game development, and play a lot of games with the highest graphics settings (currently breezing through The Medium and Tomb Raider SOTTR on the highest settings).

After having installed this game without even beginning to play it, I for the first time, saw artifacting from my GPU with it blowing over the 8GB, meaning that the way this game was made is demanding more than what’s necessary.

I’d say that I’m a little mixed on this one.

Obviously, I have a love of psychedelics. I love the Bay Area (live there), love the PDK inspiration, love the artstyle, love some of the sound(s) and love creativity & originality.

The reason I’m mixed is due to a little bugginess and honestly the game requiring a little too much patience on my part (I’m a pretty patient dude too). It almost feels at times like it is bordering along “ambient” gaming to solve the “puzzles”. And by “puzzles” I mean the game relies heavily on one core mechanic: find the right spot for clicky, click, repeat. This becomes a bit tedious; even for a $10 game and not immersive. Which sucks because obviously this game has the right ingredients for being very immersive (or even only immersive without clicky click, aka Alien Isolation mod removing the Alien - aka spontaneous combustion exploration instead of clicky clicky) but the tedium of finding that one core mechanic puzzle to progress dampens the immersion & experience for me. This is where it becomes almost “ambient”, the looping atmospheric effects and saying WTF is that little symbol to click, causing much retracing over an already limited (and by limited I mean small) map.

Devs are French and yes, there are noticable English spelling and grammar errors throughout but not unplayable bad. And the English voice acting is on a much higher level than the localization/translation bits and bobs so if you are worried about things being lost in translation that’s not an issue, for me at least. And if you have even a passing familiarity with PKD then you ought to be able to catch the little nods to his books because, well, they aren’t so little nor subtle. It is interesting to see a French perspective on a somewhat contemporary popular American mind and world(s) though. For that alone I feel the game is worth it to me. But this game is MOST DEFINITELY not for everyone, and I would be very selective with whom I reccomend it to. Most PKD fans should find something valuable in the game. I make the assumption that most PKD readers will be less critical of writing and more interested in unique and original ideas in general, and this game is certainly that.

In 2061, the desire for seamless interstellar travel continues to grow.

LIGHTWAY LINES - a modern, specialist airline - is trialing new technology to make space tourism safe and affordable for everyone. But in this moody, atmospheric sci-fi ARPG adventure, Captain Rain could end up paying the price for attempting to make history.

  • Explore the Lightway cruiser and unearth what really happened.

  • Fast-paced, ARPG-style combat.

  • Custom artwork with detailed, interesting environments.

  • A hard-hitting & unnerving soundtrack.

  • Plenty of collectibles that expand on the story.

LIGHTWAY LINES is set to launch in November 2022.

Master Reboot

Master Reboot

Master Reboot had been in my backlog for several months but I finally took the time over the past few days to play through and even 100% the achievements.

The game was not flawless by any means but to my mind the warts are just about what one should expect from such an ambitious indie project. Missing things like a key/controller config, multiple save slots (or a persistent way to view ducky and animated memories), borderless window, etc. are all minor quibbles that at worst I’d appreciate seeing in future projects.

This game is a first person adventure game, a true adventure game where your focus is on wandering environments and solving puzzles along a storyline, not like the ‘adventure’ classification some games like the Legend of Zelda are sometimes given.

The game is set in a cyberworld/server where people that die have their memories preserved so that their loved ones can ‘visit’ them when they are gone. During the game you get the idea that things like the cyberworld weren’t common, so the memories you visit are relatively normal, like current 21st century experiences people might have as opposed to experiences in the transitioning cyberpunkesque world that the cyberworld exists in. However, the visuals in the game are just what you would expect from a game in the cyberpunk genre when not in the isolated memories. The visuals are relatively simple looking as far as being like crysis, but the style is appropriate for it and works well with the game. The sound in the game is pretty decent, but one of the added things that some may love or hate is that you constantly hear soft shouting or other horror tropes to give off a horror game atmosphere, even when you aren’t being chased by enemies or dangers that should actually give such a feeling.

.T.E.S.T: Expected Behaviour — Sci-Fi 3D Puzzle Quest

.T.E.S.T: Expected Behaviour — Sci-Fi 3D Puzzle Quest

It’s in beta right now, but I like it so far. The puzzles range from being extremely easy and sometimes almost an insult to the user’s intelligence, to requiring Garry’s Mod-like physics glitches to solve a single puzzle. It’s got a lot of talos principle in it, the rules are firm, all the puzzles are logic based, but at the same time there’s some room for creativity. It’s not as pretty as portal and the story isn’t as good (so far) as portal or talos, but its a good mix of both.

I don’t like how short some of the puzzles are, some are just “Grab a ball and go through a door” I’d really like some longer interconnected puzzles, which I am really looking forward to them including in the final version.

If you like first person puzzle games, I highly recommend this one. The puzzles are challenging, yet not overly complicated and I enjoyed figuring them out on my own (except for a handful of the advanced lift puzzles, see below). This game has some unique mechanics including time-manipulation that allows you to make a certain jump or throw very accurately or retry them without having to restart a level per se.

I also really enjoyed the plot if you want to call it that. Most levels start with you overhearing the mysterious testers talk about you and the puzzles, which functions as minor hints to solving the puzzle. If you like the way GLaDOS berates you in Portal you’ll like this aspect, too.

Beat The Game

Beat The Game

Beat The Game:

Important News Flash for all hoverbike owners . . . in the last few weeks, the authority recorded an alarming number of accidents in the desert involving hoverbike riders and fridges! It has become a trend for people to drop their old fridges in the desert, and an even bigger trend for riders to smash their bikes into them at night due to poor visibility. And you, my friend Mistik, you missed the news flash and indeed rode into one tonight!

Beat The Game is an adventure / puzzle game where you play Mistik, a strange character who is dressed like a prison inmate and carries a holographic music mixer wherever he goes.

As far as I can tell **Beat the game** is not a finished product or at the very least, not a smooth experience. So the unique mechanic in the game is finding sounds for 8 step sequencer (basically you can play the game to your own soundtrack created from those sounds) Was the mechanic utilized intuitively? Not really. It is just kind of there as a sandbox tool and it did not create any worthwhile gameplay elements. Although I really enjoyed the aesthetic there are noticeable issues with camera lag and the flickering world. For $7 I expected a more refined experience considering 60-90 minute length.

This is an extremely unique and fun game. I've been a fan of Wolfgun's music for many years, and when I saw the trailer, I was dazzled but I shared others' concerns about the game being visually busy or hard to follow. I was proven wrong very quickly and I'm really amazed at how quickly I picked it up and how fun and addicting it is. I think this game has an incredible spirit to it, the story mode is quite interesting and high concept and I find myself pondering the meaning (or meanings) of it weeks later. I'm extremely excited to see what Wolfgun does next and I think this is a remarkable first game and definitely a worthwhile experience.

If you, like me, have never played a hack-and-slash game in your life, you may very likely find Projections a bit difficult and even frustrating at first. Every time you get smacked and your score is halved for it, even though you swear you hit the dodge button just in time to parry that attack from an entity you're familiar with? If you, like me, get incredibly invested in and perhaps a little overly-competitive over beating your own high scores? It can be a bit disheartening to say the least.

## Purple Saturn Day

_Welcome athletes! Upon this great day of joy, celebration, and meaning, this glorious Day of Purple Dawning, the launching of a new year on Saturn, the Supreme Gem of the Sky, we native Saturnians bid to you alien athletes who desire to participate in and of course perhaps win the events created to honor our great Being Exxos for giving us this new day, new year, new victor—welcome!_

In this psychedelic sci-fi Olympiad, athletes from planets across the galaxy gather to compete in the Purple Saturn Day games. Four interplanetary events await:

* The Ring Pursuit: race a frenzied flight around the splendid rings of Saturn, meteors threatening at every turn. Scoring is based not just on speed, but in navigating the course’s turns more accurately than your opponents.

* The Tronic Slider: when the energy ball bursts, competitors pilot sliders speeding and rebounding off of obstacles and each other in a rush to capture the most energy fragments.

* The Brain Bowler: solve a fast-moving electronic puzzle of resistors, gates, and electronic channels as you and your competitor seek to control each other’s minds.

* The Time Jump: Pilot a ship into the future by capturing energy sparks to fuel your gravity-catapult and explode through time. The more sparks you captured, the further you plunge through mind-altering visions of space-time contraction.

Master these challenges for the chance to be graced by the queen of Saturn herself – a prize highly valued by all life forms for its universally euphorious sensation.

## Lost Voice

![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1454570/extras/Steam_St.png?t=1606810818)

At first glance, the story is simple, if not cliched. A player finds themselves in a strange and unfamiliar world - they don't know where they are or how they got there. And it appears they don't remember anything up to this point. Almost immediately the player is contacted by a group of characters with similar symptoms and together they start an investigation to unravel these mysteries. Where are they? Why can't they remember anything? These and many other questions will be answered in the most unexpected ways.

![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1454570/extras/Steam_Gp.png?t=1606810818)

At its core, Lost Voice is a first-person shooter, with strong exploration and some puzzle elements. Town Square is a safe space where the player can go to seek shelter and communicate with NPCs. Teleport Room that can be found there is used to reach other worlds (dungeons). Each world has its own gameplay twist.

![](https://cdn.akamai.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1454570/extras/Steam_SRS.png?t=1606810818)

There is no "Game Over" screen in Lost Voice. Instead of dying, the player teleports to the Well when HP is depleted. Upon climbing the Well to the top, the player transports to the Secret Room, nearest to the player’s "death" location. These rooms are closed from the inside, so the player will need to figure out how to unlock them.
