8/10 - Great value for money if bought & overall a very pleasant, relaxing experience.

This game was truly an enjoyable time. I’ve not completed the game fully but I have gathered the main aspect and the majority of what I needed to do. If I’m guessing, you’ll get about 6-8 hours of gameplay overall before “finishing” this game.

You’re using DNA to create lifeforms and reviving the world, essentially. It’s a very cute, relaxing indie game and the soundtracks are A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! Absolutely over the moon.

INSOMNIA: The Ark

INSOMNIA: The Ark

Insomnia: The Ark has a long development backlog and a really big world, pierced by hundreds of intersecting threads, lines of various characters you’ll meet or not meet on your voyage through a giant half-abandoned spaceship inhabited by distant descendants of fugitives fleeing from a war-torn planet.

The game’s grand, by many role-play gaming standards, and I wanted to play it from the first moment I occasionally saw some gameplay videos on YouTube. The game’s grand, but even now, a year after the release date, it’s still a mess, in a big way.

An absolutely incredible game. I would love to recommend this, but there are just too many problems with it. While the story is well written, the atmosphere is perfect, and the environments are detailed and unique, this game suffers from a series of poor game mechanics and design choices made by the developers. Let me get into it:

1.) Bugs: They weren’t that noticeable for the majority of my playthrough, but the one’s that were noticeable really broke the game. At certain points the game would randomly crash (mostly when trying to load a previous save point), or I wouldn’t be able to select items in my inventory without scrolling to the top of my item list, selecting another item I didn’t want to view, and then scrolling back down to the one I did.

For me this game is more promising than other reviewers have found it. I’m not usually crazy about too much story line (too much for my taste in Crysis for eg) but with my favourite shooters going down the campaigns as thinly disguised survival scene after survival scene, where you face ever increasing and ultimately, pointless hordes of enemies to disguise a lack of imagination (think Doom Eternal - Ancient Gods, Serious Sam 4) this game strikes a nice balance for me. Sure there’s bugs, but there’s popular well established games out there with bugs that have never been ironed out. Happy to give this one a chance.

Primordia

Primordia

Watching a good Science fiction movie was always a rare experience to have, even more so an original one….

Playing a good and original Science fiction game….that’s even less probable, it feels like finding a very special treasure.

Good words have been around for Primordia since it came out in 2012 (I’m now playing it for the first time in 2017) and i can say it’s all pretty much justified.

The game has a good story, with interesting characters, both main and secondary ones. It has an interesting beginning, a well handled middle and an ending ( and a pretty good one at that, although that depends on which ending you get).

Bought in a bundle without knowing much about it except it’s published by Wadjet Eye Games and another game in the bundle was Gemini Rue (which by body required at the time). I stuck gold because what we have here is a high quality four-man (+Dave as producer / voice caster) point & click adventure game with gorgeous 320x200 graphic.

Story is set in post apocalyptic, distant future cyberpunk world which is a rich environment for imaginative locations, story, characters. You name it. Overall story is pretty solid and will satisfy even the most seasoned adventure players.

UPDATE 29-01-2021:

I feel like updating my review periodically (2-3 months), because the game probably has one of the most involved (and social) communities that I’ve ever been in. And I absolutely love it.

Let’s start with stating the obvious: The game has some REAL potential. This is created by the insanely fine DOOM-esque gun-play, together with the great movement, even mid-air.

Refined with the perk system, it really doesn’t matter if you want to go insanely fast and guns blazing, or take it slow and methodically. Weapon affixes contribute to this as well, making it viable to sit back with snipers and not getting any of “dem sweet cellz” (XP) go to waste. (Snipers work a good deal in close quarters as well, because of nearly perfect hipfire accuracy!)

If you don’t like reading long reviews, I’ll start you off with a TL;DR

The game plays amazing, feels amazing, sounds amazing and is developed by down to earth developers who only want to share the love for games.

… oh you got past my TL;DR? Amazing. Now let me elaborate.

First off, at the time of the review I have about 9 hours played recorded on steam - and a few more offline due to internet outages.

I have played the game in it’s alpha stage (mid-July) and will continue playing it as it develops (and if I don’t forget, update my review at some point). Make of that what you will.

Serious Sam… with a weird girl following you around

Pros: Good graphics

Gun modifications

Open World

The bullet-time is pretty dope

Some RPG elements

Cons: The RPG elements (skills, leveling, etc.) can be a lot better

Mindless waves of enemies spawning all around you

Needs more guns (like a sniper, shotgun, hand cannon, etc.)

Enemies have aim-bot like a mofo

The building mechanic needs work, as it’s unwieldy

Is it the best game ever? No… but is Serious Sam the best game ever? No, it’s not either. I’d really just compare this game to being a slightly worse Serious Sam… so for the price, it’s good if you’re looking for a game similar to Serious Sam.

41hrs Review

Its hard to give a review for this game as i did receive it for free via gift purchase from my brother and also this a game made by a small team and by what i can see and feel when playing the game they did not have a AAA budget.

So i finished the game on the pro skill level took me just over 7hrs to finish but keep in mind i have played tons of first person shooters and tend to finish games quite quick. I liked the game it has some frustrating moments which i will get too but overall its quite decent and for $20 bucks aussie dollars its not bad value.

Alien AI

Alien AI

Keep in mind this is an “early access” game being developed by the good folks at GridSkyGames. This is pretty much a “cat and mouse” game between you and A.I. drones. Having to navigate areas in search for items all the while your food, water and health bar tick down. With limited resources to replenish those bars. At first glance I had issues with some of the mechanics, mostly getting stuck on just about everything. Since the patch game play has felt better, not sure if game mechanics were improved or if I just choose to avoid getting close to anything. The graphic are good complete with atmosphere effects. The voice actress is good but the script still needs a rewrite to pull the player into the story more. This is a game were quick thinking strategy comes into play. You won’t have time for waiting or walking and barely any time for a look around. Be quick enough and you’ll make it to the A.I. base where you’ll lend a hand to the evil A.I. demise.

Planetarian The Reverie of a Little Planet

Hmmm, so coming into this VN I didn’t know what to expect, I had heard quiet a lot about it but I was hearing a lot of mixed impressions, however I was pleasantly surprised to find what a great story it had, it was a very interesting read; and suffice to say I have reread this VN many times.

The Story is based long after a great war that left the world in darkness, most if not all life gone, acid rains ever covering the planet in an erosive downpour.

So, this is another key’s sadness visual novel, I have played Clannad and watched Clannad, Air, Kanon, and many key’s animes. This time key brings us a sadness but thoughtful story with a robot girl whose name is Hoshino Yomemi, which means the beautiful dream of the stars. I have read the whole Planetarian novels after played this game, so that I know the whole world of this novel series.Yomemi is a lovely girl, I DON’T think she is a ROBOT, but a HUMAN with all the beauties and she stands for the brightness of humanity. She is innocent and just like a child. Human destoried everything but she still believed that everything will become fine one day. I think the precious memories of Yomemi are the most moved part of this novel and I cried for nearly 2 hours after I watched that part. After played this game, I thought a long time, why human beings began to kill each other? Maybe they lost their emotions like love and mercy. After all, all these loves and mercies are given to Yomemi and she became the hope of human maybe. Though her body dead in the end, but her spirit was taken by us. By the way, the next novel called Man of Stars(maybe, I read this story in Chinese), in that story, our main character became a old man and show other people the beauty of stars, just like what Yomemi was done to him, and finally in a small village in South America, he dead with another robot which the same type of Yomemi, in that time, the South America was covered with ice and people could hardly survive. In that village, our main character teached 3 children many things of stars, knowledges, and some past stories. It’s a sad end. Human couldn’t avoid disappearing from this planet, but our spirit, our love, the dream of heaven, the heaven that won’t be seperated, the hope, won’t disappear.Actually, I think this game worth this price, in my opinion, it’s even more worth than 60$, it makes us to thought what’s the true love, what’s the humanity, and I think it’s even more thoughtful than some text book.

Void Pyramid

Void Pyramid

A simple yet surprisingly addictive rpg. The atmosphere and darkly comedic writing particularly stand out as great. The six stats (Health, Attack, Defense, Brawn, Agility, Intelligence) are all balanced very well with each other, each being equally useful throughout the game depending on the situation. The three different classes and how they interact with the pyramid combined with the multiple ways to solve problems and differences in endings provide a good deal of replay value, adding up to at least seven hours of gameplay if you go through once for each class.

The real appeal to this game is the quirky flavor found in the text of item descriptions, object interactions and dialogue. The world here is a theocratic autocracy ruled by the Prime Pharaoh and it is littered with relics of lost technology. The underlying commentary on the social structure framed in scifi bizarreness is presented with such playfulness that it drives the approximately 5 hours (for the completionist) spent exploring and discerning the secrets of the 30 or so rooms, just about the right length of time needed to spend mastering all of the puzzles without losing interest due to the simplistic gameplay. Potential points of criticism are the battle instances, which don’t quite aesthetically match the rest of the game (as someone said it looks a little like the backgrounds were designed in MSPaint), and the music, which is variously essentially 15-30 seconds of beats on repeat, but alternatively this apparent amateurness could be a charm… I actually found the music catchy and tone appropriate. Regardless, if you are considering this game based on the screenshots, chances are you’ll be more than satisfied with this “purchase”.
