The Sandbox Evolution - Craft a 2D Pixel Universe!

The Platforming was fun and the levels I played were short. I normally am not a huge fan of platformer games but the short levels and easier difficulty were more my play style. With that said they do have harder levels, and you can use your credits to automatically beat them if you end up on the struggle bus for long. Beating Levels and completing quest in game give you more credits to use. You can also build levels to share with others, the tools are easy to use and after a few minutes you quickly figure things out. You unlock everything using credits, once unlocked you can use them in your level design. Early on I still had a ton of credits and no problems getting the items / monsters / materials I wanted to use, but I can see where the free to play isn’t so free once you get into it. With that said I have no problem forking over some cash for a game I’m enjoying and spending lots of time with. So check it out on steam, it’s free to play and you should be able to many hours of play out of it before you hit that first $ roadblock. #tsbevolution

The artwork, character controls, interface and general stability (on PC) are obviously much better than The Sandbox, but it doesn’t quite capture the magic of the past game.

In particular the temperature system isn’t as well balanced. It’s easier to get a runaway temperature reaction (eg dropping one ice in a body of water and forming a glacier). You could do that in the previous game, but the ice was much more likely to melt if you only dropped one, and it was easier to erase all the ice and get your water back. In this game temperature tends to stick around and you typically have to erase a lot of the surrounding solid blocks in order to get

The game still feels somewhat unfinished, but they actually fixed the combat so that it’s fun again. That, and the amazing mod support means that I can’t but recommend the game. It’s a bit pricey, but it offers some of the most satisfying melee combat ever seen in a game. Perhaps even more satisfying than Dark Souls or the like. Despite it’s tragic state after a ridiculously long development time, it’s a cult classic and one of my favorite games for a simple reason; The combat is so good. It’s my go-to I-wanna-clap-some-people-to-death-or-die-trying game. If you love melee action combat games like me, you can’t pass this game.

Amazing. I got this from Humble Monthly, installed it, and in one sitting completed the main story. Now it’s 3 in the morning and I’m writing a review. The main story is indeed 3 hours long, but it held my attention by being so fun to play and look at that it passed by way too fast! I haven’t gotten to try the other 2 stories yet, but I can say a few things about the game, and from now on, I’ll be referencing the main story.

The good:

 • Movement: it’s amazing. There’s so many ways to get around, it feels so fluid to get from place to place, and the best part: Moving around is FUN! If I can have fun just getting from place to place, it’s a game I’ll enjoy. I’ve seen a couple reviews saying that the movement doesn’t do what you want it to do, but I just don’t see that in this game. Everything is spot on. Whenever the character did something wrong, it was always my fault, not the game.

Kenshi

Kenshi

I have a lot of games in my library. This one has the most hours.

There is just something to say about suffering and struggling and every bandit pwning you for days. Then one day you are standing victorious while unconscious enemies lay piled around you.

Take the fight to those holy nation sanctimonious bigoted jerks, seriously those guys suck.

Shoot the tax man when he comes to collect, and when he returns with muscle I shoot them too.

After being beaten nothing says I win by making your own rules even if the NPC says no.

Simply the best game of this genre I’ve played, which is no contest because Kenshi is the first of it’s kind. I stayed away from it for years because I kept saying “ew, graphics.” I couldn’t have cheated myself more with that sentiment. Kenshi is far and beyond anything I expected. With a handcrafted world full of history, it’s up to you and lady luck to decide if you create a story of untold triumph, or utter defeat.

Wanna be a bounty hunter? craftsman? farmer? wandering samurai? Robin Hood? Maybe you just want to found a city, you can do almost anything! Additionally the modding community is very active to this day, heck, the game comes with it’s own built in modding tools so you can make your own mods!

Agartha

Agartha

You’re going to spend 30 minutes playing all the levels and then hit a brick wall of waiting for 10 minutes for lava pools to drain then die when you touch a single orange pixel.

10 out of the 12 hours of this game were watching lava move out of the way to get to an exit.

There’s waaaay too much lava that just takes so long to get around. Characters are pretty one sided. you’ll use Ninja, Esper, and wizard almost every level. Farmer is an absolutely useless character. He can’t angle his pick upwards so i can only go down when mining. Robots useless because he can’t jump worth shit and any level you would use oil to get yourself up there’s lava to burn it. his mining style leaves him totally exposed. alchemist has NO mobility and there’s no level that you need to turn anything into lava. Geomancer has no mobility either and his abilities are slow to effect and only has like 2 good uses if you want to turn a large area cold or hot. Also his mining leaves him exposed to any lava.

If you like exploring and puzzles, I would recommend this game. I took around 8ish hours to 100% the game.

Good things:

 • Lots of variety in characters. Each character has their own playstyles. I used Esper the most, the teleport ability is helpful (and might be a little bit OP).

 • Exploring and finding secret paths is fun. In some stages there is more than 1 exit, so it presents are further challenge to find these hidden exits.

 • Object physics is great. If you burn grass or oil, then it will burn away or if you freeze water or lava, they will turn to their solid countertypes. This makes the puzzles interesting and fun to figure out.

Project META

Project META

Such a fun superhero game, perfectly fufills several superhero power fantasies from web slinging to shooting fire from your hands to super strength and flight. You know that scene where superman punches his foe into the sky and hit them a couple more times, only to zip around in front of where they’re flying towards only to smack them to the ground? You can do that, and it feels WAY cooler than you think.

It is still in early development and I am SUPER excited to be there every step of the way as this game grows and develops.

Real player with 14.1 hrs in game

If you would like to feel like superman and send enemies flying, this game is for you! This game really makes me feel like a super hero and you can actually have a selection of many more powers and it will keep growing! The graphics are good and will improve over time I can bet because the single dev is listening to the players! You have a variety of enemy types to choose from and the level selection is decent.

This game has so much potential, just give it time and you will love it!

Sword With Sauce

Sword With Sauce

Sword With Sauce is a great game with enjoyable mechanics and vast amount of fun. If you like being stealthy, you’ll like it. If you like being badass, you’ll like it. And if you like action single-player games with ninjas, you’ll definetly like it. While I was consumed in this world, I felt like a real ninja. Wallruns, roof-hooking, stealthiness, tactical usage of a vast majority of available gadgets - that is all waiting for you in this amazing game. This game doesn’t even need a story or a big amount of levels to be interesting. You just enjoy creating different tactics or performing astonishing kill tricks. Here are some pros and cons:

Real player with 22.5 hrs in game

Wow… Sword with Sauce is crazy fun. Yes, it’s only 3 levels and yes it’s only in, well, not even beta. But what is there is awesome!

I played through and beat both the mansion and habor using the default setup. The mansion was a mostly stealth run. Habor, I just went wild with the sword since the layout is a little more difficult to map out. When I started up city, I finally decided to check out gadgets. Don’t make the same mistake I did! Check out gadets ASAP!

Sure, you can go with a bow as your starter weapon, ala Far Cry. You can go with the default sword. You can go with… honestly, I forgot what the fourth thing was because THE SHIELD, the freaking glorious shield! Have you ever want to play a FPS Captain America? The game may not have Marvel branding, but the shield made me feel like I was in the Avengers. It’s got the multi enemy bounce. It’s got the bullet ricochet. It’s got the boomerang return.

personally i love this game i have spent well over 100 hours and i still play it almost every day. it takes some time to learn the controls and even longer to master. the game is still very early in its development and i know that there is lots of stuff coming in the future like diving and more props to play around with. I would 100% recommend using a gamepad for this game otherwise its going to be very hard to play.

What an amazing game.

I’ve been looking for a gymnastics physics game that allows you to really grind and develop skills/routines. The real game begins when you start playing the user created levels from the workshop. The discord community is great an ultimately is the game of choice for gymnasts and gymnastics fanatics alike. I’ve waited so long for a game like this, and I’m so happy it came.

Way of the Samurai 3

Way of the Samurai 3

I love the Way of the Samurai franchise, but i think WoTS 3 is the worst game in the series for several reasons.

- Bad Stuff -

1. The job system is one of the most frustrating systems i’ve ever encountered in gaming. I cannot stress how bad this mechanic is - it will be a deal breaker for many players. Most of the job quest involve extreme tedium - for example like finding 3 missing kids (no map markers, can take 10-20 until you memorize the locations), pushing an old lady to the toilet without staggering her, and following npcs around for +5m sometimes till they meow so you can identify them as a robber. Many of the quests involve “finding a person who is hiding” and they can be in crazy places like on the roof, in a tree, or in a patch of ivy you are trying to search at night. Worse, the jobs take place in the same few locations - so you are stuck searching the same few zones over and over again with little variation. Why do these tedious jobs? Well job quests are essential to gain money, collect certain swords, and gain faction rep for certain endings. Finally, to finish a quest and ask for a new quest, you need to submit the quest, walk to leave the zone, get a loading screen, then return to the zone, get a loading screen, then go back to the quest giver to get a new job. Overall, i feel like this game completely disrespects your time with pointless tedium. You aren’t a samurai, you are playing where’s waldo for most of the game.

IF A KUROSAWA FILM AND A CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE BOOK HAD A BABY TOGETHER

PROS:

–combat seems simple, but is deceptively fun and addictive

–15 different endings based on player choices

–lots of interesting and idiosyncratic characters

–character customization

–skin swaps for said character customization (can play as any NPC in the game)

–Story and character interactions are highly enjoyable

–replay value for days

CONS:

–dated graphics

–movement in and out of battle has probably not aged that well (shouldn’t be that much of a problem though)

it’s good, legit i bought it because i thought the developer put a bunch of time into the game to make it look good, but then when i bought it, it was great and when i beat the game 100% (just now) i wanted a second one but there isn’t so i was kinda disappointing, but if they ever make a second one i’d get it happily which i want them to do.

Hey there! If you enjoy short and sweet reviews, follow my curator page here! I am an independent Curator providing reviews and insights to the games that need the spotlight! Thank you! :)

I got the chance to play Street Hero back when it was introduced as a demo for the Steam Game Festival and I thought it showed tremendous promise. Especially if you consider that this is the first game released by DD Games , a Game Studio from Vietnam managed by one authentic Hero! A one man band!
