CyberTaxi

UPDATED Review 4/10/2021: Wow! This is a ton of fun. I had some prior grievances with some of the choices made with gameplay that were making the game very hard to enjoy for me. I voiced my concerns in my review, and the devs (small, indie dev team) responded very quickly to address some of those concerns. The devs are very receptive to feedback and appreciate hearing from their community, and it seems like they care about their product after seeing the most recent updates.

The gameplay is a lot of fun! It’s a bit of a combo of Crazy Taxi, Quarantine, and Carmageddon with slight influences from other media as well. If you’ve played Quarantine, you’ll notice the inspiration, but trust me, the devs are working hard to make this their own game! You will find yourself driving around a crazy, chaotic, and relatively apocalyptic city with bad guys and pedestrians on the road, turrets, other cabs/vehicles, and more. You are picking up fares, some of which need to go somewhere, others want you to kill someone or blow up a vehicle, and others want you to blow up a building (similar to dropping someone off at a destination, except with more explosions!). There may be more fare types in later districts that I haven’t gotten to yet, but I am satisfied with the fare types that are already in the game.

Cool indie game! Some stuff heavily resembles Quarantine or Road Warrior, but there are some major differences. Even despite the fact that the game has some bugs, the devs update it all time - a lot of stuff was fixed in recent patches.

Pros and cons below.

PROS:

  • positive vibe;

  • unique atmosphere somewhat reminds the old Quarantine classic;

  • nice effects and gore system;

  • excellent music!

  • driving model is not that bad at all,

  • cool weapons!

CONS:

  • some missions look bland and could be a bit better;

Skid Cities

Skid Cities

Did you ever miss the old simcity series? its complex-algorithm-excellence? its abstract yet satisfying gameloop? Its potential to create a million-city? So did you ever muse about a version of that set out in the future , but not the utopic green energy one per se, also a gritty, dystopic and challenging representation as we can find in the dozen of post-contemporary 80’s sci-fi movies? you know, stuff like Blade runner, total recall, ghost in the shell, .. etc? Neon lights and time-square-exponential… Meet Skid Cities!

This is a rather simple and non intensive city builder with a unique concept of building cities on top of cities or cities under cities if you do so choose to do so. When building up for the first time it can at first be difficult to maintain consistency with each of your floors (considering you need certain buildings in order to raise the cyberpunk system which determines how tall your buildings are), but eventually you will find a nice orderly design that is constant for your industrial, commercial, and residential needs that is consistency no matter how high you go or low. Money is almost never an issue which means you are quite flexible in what to experiment in the design of your city as you build. I should say there are some minor bugs but this is a very new game so that is to be expected. Overall I would recommend this game if you are starting to get into city building games or if you simply have a satisfaction for hiving a city.

Wasn’t expecting such good stuff as small indie game. This product has so much potential, I do hope devs are planning some advertisement for it and they will add more features in the near future!

It’s hard to describe this one… it’s a place that lets you go anywhere you want in your own abandoned club, which is sort of equal parts peaceful and lonely. It’s enjoyable making your own music with the in-game synths, and I could see this being great fun to have in the background at a (real world) party. The atmosphere is really strong with some great sound and music, and if you’re someone who enjoys exploring in games for the sake of exploring, there’s a lot to get from this nightclub.

Vicewave 1984

Vicewave 1984

There’s potential, but it’s not yet realised.

-Overview-

Vicewave is an open-world action game clearly inspired by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. With a great synthwave soundtrack and vibrant 80’s style neons, the atmosphere is set. Unfortunately, the gameplay experience is lacking in several areas, and the optimisation needs work. Frankly, making any progress in this game is a constant uphill struggle against poor game mechanics.

A wild review appears.

Conclusion: if you’re expecting a fun retro style GTA game. Sadly, this is not it (List is down below). I have given this game several tries over the span of a few months. I cannot recommend it.

The Bad

1: Lockpicking is extremely tedious. The (Sweet Spot) needs to be configurable via difficulty.

2: Player dies far too easy, and body armor is behind a XP wall.

3: Difficulty is too high (for casual players of this genre).

4: Cars hand like their on something, and bottom out if bridge is too steep.
