Battle Bugs

Battle Bugs

Game of my childhood. Still very good in 2021, a bit too easy, but super fun to play. And the idea of you being a general of an army of insects fighting another army of insects for cakes and pizza that some guy forgot on his dining table is very cool.

Game is made with a lot of attention to details wchich is common for 90’s games. Every insect has it’s own abilities and powers but also it’s own animations for moving, attacking, dying etc. There is plenty of humor here, it is not the top class humor, but it’s okay considering how old the game is. Overall very addictive and fun, I am so happy to play it again. If you are an old gamer and want to show somebody what games looked like in 90-s this is a good example of it.

Definitely bought this for the nostalgia. Its a great game though. Starts out really easy so you can understand the basic concepts then starts to get more challenging. Good game for a child to get an idea of how older games used to be. Its got childish humor and cartoon graphics and it will help build critical thinking skills without being overly complicated. You have to use the manual in additional content section in steam to get past the start screen guard rhinobugs.

War Wind II: Human Onslaught

War Wind II: Human Onslaught

As a huge fan of War Wind 1, this is honestly quite disappointing. Controls are very confusing, much more so than in the 1st War Wind. Technology trees for each of the races is complicated and hard to get used to. The alien races now speak mostly English which doesn’t feel as authentic. The mechanics of hiring new units is a huge downgrade from the 1st War Wind in the sense that you can only hire from external villages that do not respawn new villagers. These villagers can be accidentally attacked. Overall, hugely disappointing and the only saving grace was the low cost to purchase this game. Perhaps players without prior experience playing the 1st War Wind would find this ok but for those like me who are expecting a game that improves on the 1st one would be terribly disappointed.

Command & Control 3

Command & Control 3

PROS:

 • nice concept

 • easy to learn, hard to master

 • units + offmap support

 • team change during the game, so you can react quickly

 • sounds

 • fair price

CONS:

 • infantry squads die too fast

 • pathfinding for vehicles - tragedy, they are turning 100x during a few seconds

 • unbalanced, for example cruiser missile have not enough dmg and big reload time

 • undestructable buldings

 • only a few units

 • only 2 factions

 • both factions have same units

Should be developed:

 • PvE

 • PvP

 • some units should have map limit, on some maps its only tanks spam

The game concept is really cool, even with a simplistic look, the sound design is engaging, the slowness of the units and the progress is pretty boring, the fact that you point to locations and you can’t have a precise idea of positioning like in company-style games of heroes leaves a little to be desired, the units also don’t have bonuses for the type of physical training, I believe that only for the type that it is ie if it’s just a grenadier or if this or that… the concept of as if it were a general commander it was really cool…so far I missed aircraft like the black hawk doing circular flights protecting areas with the machine gun…the buildings don’t have physics and also don’t give the immersion of soldiers ambushing or taking cover efficiently.

M.A.X. 2: Mechanized Assault & Exploration

I’e always liked this game. I’ve played it +1000 hours on a different account.

It’s very simple, easy to learn, a lifetime to master.

5 different types of humans, plus a pod species much like Alien(s). You can choose or do it random. Six different maps. 1-on-1 up to 5-on-1. You can call it a city builder, but then again, you could call Napoleon an adventurer.

Never plays the same way twice.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. Having played the original M.A.X., which was brilliant, I thought that I would try M.A.X. 2. Game loaded OK and it took a little time to work out what the differences from the original game were. This resulted in me taking about 1 1/2 hours to get to turn number 36 when the game crashed. It had done an automatic save at turn 35 so started the game again and again it crashed. I then checked that my system was compatible with the program, loaded it up again and tried a different scenario. It crashed again around turn 30. After two more scenarios and crashes I had spent 4hours trying to get it to work and thought that a refund was in order. Of course steams rules say so refund after 2 hours. How on earth do they expect people to test a game, that always crashes, in two hours. The game should be taken off their site until the software anomalies have been rectified.

Chicago 1930 : The Prohibition

Chicago 1930 : The Prohibition

In the state it’s in, it should deserve a negative, but I’ve paid less than $1 for it so I’m gonna be more lenient.

The premises are all good, there’s the good vibe of an old-school game and the levels should keep you occupied and entertained, with actually some planning skills required to clear them. That said, the game IS buggy and crashes randomly. The way you operate your characters is also quite clunky, and frankly, a bit frustrating.

Be patient and work around the bugs, you’ll at least enjoy it for what it is.

I have no idea which stupid idiot decides to publish this game in this condition but seriously - I’m impressed. I just don’t know how it is possible to bug game without bugs. How you can fuck up selecting characters is just unanswerable. To change the guys you literally have to kill someone in the mission and hope that game will not select automatically another one by itself. Overall I love the game - but CD version not STEAM edition. Bought it only because CD version doesn’t work on anything above XP and I just couldn’t record it with FRAPS on XP. If you need to record it or if you have Vista or newer… You have to buy it… Unfortunately… But if you just want to play and you have access to PC with something between 98SE and XP than just find and buy CD version.

SunAge: Battle for Elysium

SunAge: Battle for Elysium

I saw SunAge the first time way back before it was even released and I already knew I would like it. However this game isn’t without its flaws.

Pros

–—

 • Beautiful old skool grafics, a throw back to the 90’s RTS genre. Most critic reviews I’ve read all say that the GFX are outdated, even ancient. Anyone that says this is, I’m sorry, but they’re idiots. RTS just don’t really translate that well in 3D. Believe me, it used to be my favorite genre yet there are only about 3 maybe 4 3D RTS games that I like. I don’t need a rotating camera to enjoy a game.

First off, I just want to give a big shoutout to the people involved in the making of this game, it’s quite amazing for such a small team, the graphics, the sound, the units, it all feels professional and like a high quality indie game. However there are a lot of small bugs.

A bit of a detailed explanation of the specificities of the game compared to other RTS I know:

+All units have 2 modes that can be switched without cooldowns (for example heavy infantry can switch between rocket launchers or mortars) it can also switch between anti-air to support heals and so on, however the alternate mode must be researched first in the research lab

Alchemist Adventure

Alchemist Adventure

Usually I don’t jump into early acces games, especially not when they’re out for just a few days.

However, the steam demo week introduced me to this game and I liked it! Couldn’t wait to continue once I noticed it was in early acces a few days later.

I really do recommend this game to other players, at least give it a shot. Important to note is that the devs are really open for improvement and suggestions/tips on their steamgroup

Being an alchemist with amnesia is, well, confusing. Along with the lead character you’re trying to figure out what the hell is going on.

Playing on Ubuntu 18.04 with Vulkan and Proton without any major issues. The one intro video doesn’t play properly (it’s the one that’s also on the store - with the great music) but all the cutscenes in game work fine. You can use Proton GE and even that plays fine too. Sometimes the game starts and shows a black screen, but hitting alt-tab or the super key will make everything show properly after that.

The game is pretty fun! There are lots of neat things find and lots of exploring and story. I personally like the story “memory” cutscenes.
