Multiwinia

Multiwinia

So… Multiwinia.

Is it good, is it not?

TL;DR: It is a cheap and a very simple RTS that is good, but better if you have players. I’ll link a discord where you can chat with me and other players!

Actual Review:

I picked this game on a sale (at the time, it costed 2 euros), since it looked like something up my alley (sure, I suck at RTS, but hey, why not).

Ever since I’ve done that, I’ve loved this game.

It’s very simple (there’s only one main unit, which are the Multiwinians), but also complex at the same time (imagine that the other units are… the powerups, which range from controllable gun turrets (I’m not kidding.) to dragons! And all of that to murder the Multiwinians!).

For what it is, I got a fair amount of play out of Multiwinia but it certainly isn’t anything spectacular. Actually, it’s about as simplified as an RTS game can possibly get. There is only one type of unit, and the only real control you have is to give a vague direction to them. Occassionally you’ll use an item or pull off a clever pincer attack, but Multiwinia is very simplistic.

Despite being simplistic, or perhaps because of it, a large chunk of the gameplay is a grind. Send your 100 units to kill the enemy’s 100 units and try to stop them from spawning more, so you can send in more and take a base that they can no longer defend. Of course, you’ll be sending these units in waves, usually immediately after they spawn. As far as gameplay goes, there really isn’t a lot there: you’ll end up automating most of your units' movements.

If you love First Strike: Final Hour then I do encourage you into buying it unless your into small arcade games.

When I played my first match I was honestly disappointed with the game especially having a price currently being unreasonable to purchase, in my opinion the game should be completely free due to the game’s current state.

I understand that time was taken to make something like this but to create a game secondly from First Strike: Final Hour you would expect it to be more exciting to have a multiplayer feature.

Don’t be deceived by the “Single-player” listing, expecting the possibility of a bot match or campaign. It boils down to 5-10 minute purely PvP card-based game of resource generation, land grabbing, firing missiles, counters, and a superweapon that’s an AoE missile. There’s some strategy such as soft-locking your opponent by destroying their land grabbing potential. It’s good if you’re looking for something to quickly kill time and not get invested in.

There is advancement through grinding with the default 6 or so cards to get another 9-10 for each faction. If they could expand the game with bots, card modifiers, a galaxy-map, campaign, and/or 3+ player PvP, I’d definitely be into it. Until then, it’s worth about an hour or two of playtime.

I was on the fence about this game since there was little information or playthroughs. It reminded me of Creeper World and I liked all three of them. This seems to be lot like Creeper World with some nice base building and tower defense thrown in. I have to say…the game is intense. You also have to control the path of your attack bots, defend, build your base and keep up with your resources. I’m still getting used to the controls and could recommend some changes, but all-in-all I’m really enjoying the game. There’s over 40 missions and different ways to play so I think the price is fair. Its a nice new take on tower defense.

Death Crown

Death Crown

This is a simple, yet fast paced, game that takes me back to retro game vibes.

The main thing that pulled me in was the style of cut-scenes.

The graphics, while all 2-D pixelated, are quite enticing.

The artwork is dark medieval, and the color schemes are variable.

You beat levels to earn diamonds, to spend on upgrades.

You can upgrade gold mines, defense towers, or troop barracks.

Gold mines earn gold, towers turret intruders, barracks spawn your army.

You place the three buildings across the grid, strategically, to gain territory.

I was on the edge fist, but this is actually an awesome space & resource centric RTS–the famous Z by the Bitmap Brothers comes to mind–but Death Crown is much more minimalistic.

The in-game graphics are unusual but cool looking, however, at times it’s a difficult to see certain things in the heat of the battle (esp. in the human campaign DLC which features a lot more terrain types).

It takes some time figuring out the minute details of the simple but not really intuitive controls but this is part of the game, I think. I really like the music (which is rare) and the black-and-white line art cut scenes. However, the story is a bit vague, and only shown not told.

End War RTS 2

End War RTS 2

Compared with the first generation, End War RTS 2 transforms from 2D to 3D, which is a classic real-time strategy

End War RTS 2 is a story inspired by modern science fiction. It is mainly based on the fact that human beings started the world war in order to fight for survival resources, and the launching of nuclear bombs has become the killing means of various countries.

In the world of End War RTS 2, it is constructed by seven camps of the United States, France, Britain, Germany, Russia, Cuba and Libya. Each country’s power weapon units are different, and the U.S. space carrier, Russian missile submarine and other characteristics

Very well done game, this game is better then most of the new rts games i have been able to find out there, not bad at all keep up the good work. I still dream of a future were RTS games become popular again, and i support any game that has the feel of what a true rts is all about.

while many rts games no longer use the c&c style which is a classic time, the game still needs more content like a lot more since currently it is bare bones.

Great game that I was surprised to see how much it has improved since the first version I played months ago. The color palette is perfect, the music fits in perfectly with the atmosphere of the game and the art is quite original.

I can say that this game is not made for people who want to go as fast as possible but for people who like to do puzzles and be patient. This does not mean that the game is slow and boring since it is made in a way that you can not get bored at any time, either because they add something new (mechanics, obstacles, robots, etc.) or because of the dynamic obstacles.

I have not yet played this game for hours on end. YET! I have to say this. This game is very VERY fun. It is funny and a well played game. Easy controls and the cartoon like appeal is even better. So far all I have seen are three different type of units to play but this game has potential to an epic level to keep building. Do I recommend? By all means YES. It is a fun pass time game and has funny story to it.

Simple RTS

Very fun. Simple and easy to play. Has a feel of some of the first RTS that came out like Dune or Total Annihilation. Keep in mind it’s very simple, so if you are expecting very complex missions, this isn’t for you. Recommended you buy it during Steam Sales.

SPACECOM

I came in expecting the simplicity of Galcon Fusion, but got something in between Galcon Fusion and Sins of a Solar Empire (though closer to Galcon). This is a pretty good complexity level as you can understand everything. By contrast, in a game like Sins of a Solar Empire, I don’t really get it all, so I end up doing stuff because it seems right, not because I really understand the nuances, which makes strategy a bit dissapointing. This is partially the games fault, and partially my fault.

The first third of the tutorial (what I’m calling the incredibly short campaign/story mode) is nightmareishly painfully slow to get through at first, but gets much better about a third of the way through. They overly spell things out for you, while not explaining other things your become interested in out of bordom that they shouldn’t be showing at all. I think a single page overview of all iconography and abilities (without going into strategy) would have been more ideal.

8-Bit Hordes

8-Bit Hordes

I am not recommending this game even though there is nothing particularly bad about it and it has some good aspects. I am only interested in the story campaign so I am probably a bit unusual for this type of game. One of the major reasons I am not recommending it because that aspect of the game is lacking. The story consists of one paragraph to read per mission. Nothing else. The objectives are not particularly fun either. Every mission is divided into three types of objectives: bronze, silver and gold. Bronze is required to win and you get more rewards for completing each objective type you complete. Once earned they never go away so they are very helpful, maybe even necessary to completing the harder missions later. It was all a bit too much of a formula and too dry for me.

DARKKi’s Dark Star Reviews - 8-Bit Hordes

Petroglyph (which members created original Command & Conquer among other classic RTS’s and new ones like Grey Goo ) strikes again after the success of 8-Bit Armies with great 8-Bit Hordes!

This time we go into fantasy theme in vein of Warcraft instead of modern combat. It is basic Orcs versus Humans settings with “simple” gameplay without all the gimmicks modern RTS’s use. Both races have their own campaign with 24 missions (and you can also play co-op which has 12 missions among with Skirmish and Multiplayer (up to eight players). If you also own 8-Bit armies your factions and maps can be used in both games which is really nice and exotic touch! Also worth mentioning is that tutorial / help in this game is amazingly done. Tutorial shows you the basics and then there is “help” menu where everything is explained and also you can view videos for everything and also shows what units / building need to be built in order to build something more advanced. Units behave rock, paper & scissors style. And with mouseover with units it tells what it is good for so GUI / UI is top notch.
