Final Warrior Quest

Final Warrior Quest

This game is short and sweet, but i like it.

The main character is Ted, he is EXTRA not happy that he is trapped in “cool” adventure, he just wants to go home. You can turn on and off random encounters! :) so it doesnt annoy you! and you can just continue on your adventure, carefree!

I was 100% shocked when The “final” boss could be One hit KO. I wasn’t excepting that. :)

The dialogue is funny too! :) its a good game. PLEASE let there be a squeal.

Cons:

Very short game.

Random battles are too challenging. Luckily you have the option to turn them off.

You would run out of items to recover health and magic if the random encounter couldn’t be turned off.

You can only make extra money from items that monsters drop then sell them, but too much grinding is required.

Pros:

Funny comments from the main character.

Good old school turn based strategy.

The dialogue doesn’t go on forever between quests. = More game play!

Ability to save anywhere through menu. This is good if you just leveled up or if unsure of what is behind a door.

The Adventures of Kusoge

The Adventures of Kusoge

(Got this game for free as a developer’s submission to SteadyGiveaways. Thanks, man!)

My dad is a great waaaaarriorrrrrr…He shoots missiles from his eeeeeeyes! …I gotta get that out of my head…

The Adventures of Kusoge is an RPG Maker game and…it does pain me to say it…it was pretty bad, but it was far from the worst RPG Maker game I’ve ever played. It follows a Candy Cane Knight, an OP hero who meets an enigmatic man who basically wastes him and teleports him back home without his OP gear. From then on, you enter a world of… in a word? Absurdity.

what the fuck

I guess if the developer wanted to make something intentionally bad he 100% succeeded because everything was indeed exceptionally bad. Especially his singing. But also everything else, ranking this as one of the worst RPGMaker games I’ve ever tried playing. But you shouldn’t play things that are just bad with no redeeming value!!! I shouldn’t either!!!

Doom & Destiny Advanced

Doom & Destiny Advanced

Honestly, I wanted to like this game. There are a lot of good stuff, but some features were simply so annoying that I can’t even think why they implemented them.. Don’t be fooled by the amount of hours I’ve put into this game. I forced myself to complete all the achievements in this game.

  • Class system: even though I thought the class system was interesting, the affinity leveling up system simply doesn’t fit the RPG genre, in my opinion. If you try to see what each class has to offer, there is a great chance you will end up lots of weak classes instead of a single strong one

Story:

I thought the story was a bit weaker than the previous one but that could be because it took a while for the fun, wacky stuff to happen. But the story was more about dimensions overlapping and stuff than parody set pieces this time which was okay and I enjoyed the locations and characters, though I hop you do more with them as I find them pretty interesting, like explore Viola and her getting use to technology or Esmeralda’s crush on Francis. I know you gonna do something with the Emporer later.

Doom & Destiny

Doom & Destiny

What can I say about Doom & Destiny?!

I think everything has already been told about this masterpiece!

We have a classic JRPG which takes a lot from Final Fantasy VI and similar games for what concerns graphics and gameplay (turn-based system, no ATB but fixed turns depending on stats etc.), but with an hilarious plot and literally fun on every single different screen you’ll walk into.

The soundtrack is definitely nice too!

Lots of humour and lots of references to any kind of game or franchise (and pop culture!) you can imagine! It’s really a lot of fun to find out every single reference!

I’m a bit surprised I liked this game as much as I did. I was a bit put off by the developer constantly adding “please review this game” NPCs in EVERY SINGLE TOWN. It’s like I’ll review it when I damn well feel like it. You really don’t need to badger the player to review your game while playing your game, especially if you actually paid for the game. It really left a bad taste in my mouth and its wholly unnecessary.

Getting past that this game is fun. The developer definitely made use of all the RPG Maker sprites and the writing was decent. I like it when a gmae doesn’t take itself too seriously. I also enjoyed a few of those “did you know?” random facts littered around the first town. Characters are pretty shallow and honestly I just remember them as red, blue, green and yellow. It was chock full of crass humor, game and anime references.

Sorbetta: Gravely in Debt

Sorbetta: Gravely in Debt

Full Disclosure: We are friends with the developer and received this title for free. However, we maintain objectivity with every review we do.

Summary

Sorbetta: Gravely in Debt is a short indie game created in the RPG Maker MV engine. What sets it apart from many others of that type is that it was created as a community. The main developer, HawkZombie of Undead Avian Publishing, is not a developer by trade. Instead, he is a published author who live streams on Twitch. The creation of this game is the result of a bet from another developer that Hawk, even with help, couldn’t make an interesting game.

Real player with 3.1 hrs in game

Disclosure: I was one of the testers for the game and I’ve known the creator for damn near 20 years. But I’m also insufferable so it evens out.

Sorbetta is a short, linear but fairly enjoyable romp that’ll burn a few hours of your otherwise miserable life. There’s not a whole lot of ‘game’ here, relying on its writing more than anything else. But it’s his first game and outside of some iffy websites, his first real experience doing anything technical. I was impressed by it anyway.

As other reviews have stated, it’s full of in-jokes as it was mostly made on his Twitch channel with an audience. That said they never actually get in the way of the plot so it never becomes a problem.

The Tower of Wowers

The Tower of Wowers

Oh boy where do I start? Yes, there is plenty of crude humor to laugh at all throughout the tower. But that says nothing about the actual gameplay. And it plays like proper good RPG. There’s secrets hidden in not-so-obvious places and those are always a treat to come across. If you want gear, you’re going to have to fight for it. There are loot chests, but don’t expect to find weapons in them. Admittedly, I am not the best person to ask about turn-based games in general, but in the words of Todd Howard, “It just works.” Other than the odd bug I came across, which is fixed, the fights are balanced and the controls are easy. And if you like the feel of a buttons and joysticks, controllers should work just fine. I would say the soundtrack is a major selling point (The desert type theme is my favorite, funny how it is in many games), it’s just the whole thing is awesome. The enemies are the most creative and diverse selection I’ve ever seen, probably because they have little to do with each other. And that also brings up a point, there isn’t a huge amount of lore and storytelling. That’s not a bad thing, just something you should know. So, I definitely would recommend this game.

I fully expected to go into this game and rip it to shreds, but its such a shitpost meme game that it quickly grabbed my heart. The crayon drawn enemies are amazing, several variants are around with more xp and currency, and its extremely well done. For the companies first game, the price tag is perfect and it fully deserves to be played by as many as possible. I interviewed Barry during my gameplay review and play through on my twitch channel, and the game is just a work of love for the absurd. 10/10 Buy it and have a great time for a stupid low price!

Where are my Internets?

Where are my Internets?

One-of-a-kind DYI-style indie board game, simple but challenging.

Contrary to what you may (and I did) think at first, it’s really hard to play with a single character; but it has a special achievement for winning exactly that type of a game. Some of the encounters are purely fictional, and it’s weird in a funny way to see this in a setting based around searching for (and actually installing) a satellite dish-provided Wi-Fi in some rural area.

All in all, funny little adventurous thing, best played in hot-seat mode!

Cute Board Game

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw8ASYH1YJg

[Disclaimer, I played this Solo, it is probably more fun with friends locally]

  • Visually the game looks pretty adorable with cute drawn artwork that looks more or less like a hand-made board game.
  • Far too RNG based. The entire game is based off pure luck, there is little to no real strategy or decisions for the player to make, every outcome is based on the dice roll.

  • The gameplay is too simple and repetitive. You roll, land on a tile, fight a monster, if you win you get money or an item you can sell. That is about all there is to the entire game… if you land in the city you can pay to put up internet. Once you get enough money from fighting, and get internet in every town you win… I could not find anything fun, really lacks any real challenge.

Cubicle Quest

Cubicle Quest

My playtime: 23:30:28 (based on in-game clock).

Developer Response: Never.

Intro

Cubicle Quest is a turn based RPG Maker game which combines itself with real life concepts. You just graduated from college with tons of debt, mainly college loan, and you’ll have to do anything to pay them off and succeed in life. You can get married, fight tons of internal and external conflicts which are wrapped as monsters, and so on. This game reminds me with Harvest Moon with its non linear timeline in real life setting.

Real player with 48.1 hrs in game

What an ingenious game! Start as a young adult with debts up the yin-yang and a low paying job. But you can change all that by leveling and destroying those horrible debt monsters. (Man, I wish you could do that in real life).

Cubicle Quest has many unique aspects. You begin as the ruler of your own kingdom. The Debt Army is outside your castle and threatening to destroy everything so you’ve got your work cut out for you. As I’ve already stated, you begin with a low paying job and everytime you sleep in your bed in the castle, a month advances and you receive your salary - minus many expenses. Rent, food, utilities, entertainment, etc. - all these things eat away your money. However, in the basement of your castle, all these expenses are manifested as monsters that you can defeat to either eliminate or lower their cost.
