LiEat

After beating this game and each of his 3 chapters, I can say that this is the most splendid and beautiful game I have played in a long while.

It sent me back to the era when I used to download and play RPG maker games like Misao, Ao oni or Mad Father.

The art style is beautiful, the soundtrack is perfect and the story is just magnificent…

This game is so good that I wish that one day everyone will be able to play a sequel, I know this game is great and that a lot of people would play it.

Okay… now to the serious stuff; the game itself is about 5 hours long, or 6 if you want to get every achievement.

(My reviews assume you have read about the content of the game in terms of gameplay. I am simply reviewing each individual aspect based on my opinion. This allows for my reviews to be spoiler-free. You may find I rate by different categories in each of my reviews. This is because every type of game is different, and will not have the same content. I think it is pointless to leave a category blank or write ‘unrelated’, or something similar.)

Dungeon Dreams

Dungeon Dreams

I looked up Azure Dreams to see if maybe they made a sequel to it.

I ran across this. I’m sure many others looking that up came across this game.

I really enjoyed this game.

Though the 60+ hours played is obviously divided between 3 game plays (one for each class)

Through trying to do everything in one game I got to 42 hours, that was milking it.

Overall I found it very fun to play.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Ratings 9/10 (Great Game Mechanics, Dungeon Crawler+ Dating Sim+Town Builder)

I have been playing RPG games my whole life, and this is one of the best RPG game that I’ve come across.

It’s a game developed by one person and fully funded by Kickstarter backers.

Here’s what is really great about this game. The most impressive feature is the great game mechanics and game design.

This game has 3 broad classes : Fighters, Scouts and Mages.

However, each of these classes have about 10 different sub-classes that you can play.

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout

Summary: in my personal opinion, no doubt to be the most amazing atelier game within the franchise, the one and only; also happen to be the best one for the new comers to be introduced to this series.

I’ve played previous atelier game recently and own every atelier game on steam( hadn’t got chance to play them all due to lack of free time), I will compare Ryza to Lydie & Suelle I’ve played recently to prove my statements why Ryza is a true enhanced atelier version and more like an ultimate experience among its ancestors. My perspective will from a new comers’ view since this review will likely to service my friends who put Ryza on wishlists but haven’t played any atelier games at all. Hopefully help them out in a way or two.

A Cheap Attempt to reinvent the Series (And not well done)

Before going into my review i would like to state two things, the game is actually a decent game overall, i would personally give it a neutral score if it was a option and additionally, the review is written but a long standing Atelier fan.

As some know, Ryza was Gusts idea of moving Atelier to appeal to new crowds, this involved adding a new live based battle system (personally i feel it failed but can see how this did appeal to new fans) and making the game more accessible (more on this below). A few problems became apparent before even booting the game, first off, you are now charged as extra dlc for character stories, this have always been a part of the Atelier experience, now you no longer will receive character events during the game but can pay a fee for them (they ain’t even cheap considering you must buy them separately), this is KT/Gusts idea of cashing in on the modern scummy tactics of shaking every penny out of gamers, the icing to the cake here is the extra dlc isn’t even voiced, you are literally paying for text!!! Oh speaking of not being voiced, another change you notice is now almost any event happening outside the main story is no longer voiced, even when it relates to the story, in short they cut about 60% of voice acting out of the game to save that sweet cash whilst charging extra for everything, yes its another example of removed content.

Atelier Lydie & Suelle ~The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings~

Atelier Lydie & Suelle ~The Alchemists and the Mysterious Paintings~

Now that im near the end of this game, well i think i am, who knows, I decided to write a review for this game.

Now i am a simple man, i see lolis, i buy.

But boy oh boy, i got more than what i expected.

Overall the story is fantastic, honestly they have a way of making weak characters. Instead of everything being rosy, this game has some really impactful story. At times you will laugh, other times you will get angry, and in many instances you will be on the verge of tears. I dont rally want to talk much about the story since i feel that it might give a bit of a spoil overall the whole game, so you can nitpick what you can find through the store page pictures and video and description.

Well, well, well… It’s that time once again. It’s time to review another Atelier game from the Mysterious series. This time, I will be going through Atelier Lydie & Suelle.

In short, Atelier Lydie & Suelle was a lovely game experience. I had a lovely time playing this game and had a great experience while doing so as well. I actually enjoyed Atelier Lydie & Suelle more than the other Atelier games from the “Mysterious” series, which I wasn’t anticipating. I wasn’t going in this game with high expectations, because of the numerous rumors about Atelier Lydie & Suelle being an MP4 simulator with WAY TOO MANY cutscenes side missions. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as I expected! The cutscenes and side missions were actually enjoyable to do, unlike Atelier Firis.

Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey / フィリスのアトリエ ~不思議な旅の錬金術士~

Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey / フィリスのアトリエ ~不思議な旅の錬金術士~

A really terrible port, you have to have a high end PC or something to run this well. If you have a potato, then don’t get this game at all, unless you like playing under 20 FPS.

Beyond that, Atelier Firis is the 2nd installment to the Mysterious set, taking place after Ateleir Sophie.

Quite a lot has changed from Sophie, first and foremost the timelimit returns, it’s not as bad as it sounds, the timelimit is very generous, you should be able to do the goal before you run out of time, unless you muck about wayyyyyy too much. The fields or maps are way bigger and more open, no longer do you stay in one place to do all your synthesizing needs, you set up camps and well, go on a journey and explore new areas.

Real player with 468.6 hrs in game

Take everything you know and love about the Atelier games, and combine that with an open world over ten times the size of the previous games. The result is Atelier Firis, one of the most ambitious and largest Atelier games to date.

Atelier Firis is the 18th game in the long running Atelier series, and the second game in the Mysterious trilogy. Firis, an energetic girl, hopes to take and pass the alchemist’s license exam in order to fulfill her dream of traveling outside. Atelier Firis is by far the largest Atelier world in the entire series. In the previous installment, Atelier Sophie, the main character, Sophie, lives in Kirchen Bell. Sophie explores various fields around Kirchen Bell to harvest materials, and once she finishes gathering materials, she returns to her atelier back in Kirchen Bell. Now, in Atelier Firis, your atelier travels with you in the form of a tent! Gathering materials and exploring the world has never been easier.

Atelier Lulua ~The Scion of Arland~ / ルルアのアトリエ ~アーランドの錬金術士4~

Atelier Lulua ~The Scion of Arland~ / ルルアのアトリエ ~アーランドの錬金術士4~

A good entry of the series with probably the most powerful, yet also annoying, synthesis system.

As a series' fan you can easily pick this up and have fun. I had my doubts, revisiting Arland after so much time, but they nicely merged Arland and the new Atelier mechanics and created something that felt familiar, yet also like a more recent Atelier. Gotta say, they did very well.

If you aren’t a fan of the series yet, there are better choices to go into the series. (i.e. Atelier Totori) That said, there are also much worse games to choose, as this is pretty good and flows relatively nicely, as far as gameplay goes. You might feel fairly lost with some characters though, and why Lulua fangirls so much. In the end, it is the fourth entry in a sub-series of Atelier.

Real player with 126.3 hrs in game

I am going to start by saying that I was not fond of Lulua (the character not the game). She was just an energetic positive ball of fluff for the entire game and her only character development at all was her skill in alchemy and her confidence at using alchemy.

I compared it to Rorona, Totori and Meruru. Rorona and Meruru also remain balls of fluff but their characters were more interesting to me. I cannot entirely explain why I did not like Lulua. I learned to tolerate her so I could enjoy Sterk, Rorona, Meruru, Totori and the world again.

Moekuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG

Moekuri: Adorable + Tactical SRPG

Definitely true to its namesake, Moekuri is perhaps even more tactical than it is adorable. It’s plenty adorable, there’s just a hella large variety of characters and strategies to implement in battle. The protagonist has a choice of ten classes, from the typical Warrior-Ranger-Mage trio to all sorts of game mechanic specialists, everyone you meet in Story Mode can be unlocked some of whom have their own unique classes, and there’s 150+ creatures to capture and summon as little combat soldiers.

UPDATE: Yes, I’ve actually played 150 hours of this, and I still love it.

The first thing I want to say is that I really wish there was a full artbook thing, with all the portrait and chibi/sprite art able to be viewed and enjoyed full-screen. That’s something I’d pay extra for, especially if it was like Rabi-Ribi’s, with the ability to choose the expressions, background, etc. for the characters where that was possible (i.e. Masters). Anyways, now that I’ve said that, the review for those interested. (TL;DR at the bottom, though it isn’t really that long…)

Sins Of The Demon RPG

Sins Of The Demon RPG

Full Review!

For my original Quick First Look just scroll down a bit.

Sins of the Demon RPG is a RPGMaker VXAce game that tells the story of Kenshi and his cat-companion, who is actually his brother turned into demon form. Their quest takes place in a fictious Samurai-era Japan called Lanistra.

This is a very story heavy game, meaning there are quite some cutscenes. Especially towards the middle of the game there are a lot of them, almost reminiscent of some japanese games nowadays. However it must be pointed out that those cutscenes, as well as almost all of the dialogue never drag on or get boring. There are quite a lot of twists and turns going on; some of which the player might see coming and few one won’t, or at least I did not.

Real player with 20.7 hrs in game

The title is misleading in a good way. Pay no attention to the daemon woman in the advertisement.

I am a lifetime RPG Veteran and I make games as well.

Sins Of The Demon is proof RPG Maker has an unfair reputation. When people make uninspired garbage they make something look bad, but this game is the opposite of that.

If the developers have real passion for what they do and take pride in their work then RPG Maker is in the right hands.

While the dialogue didn’t completely fit the time period the game is set in, the characters talked like real people. They were believable and never boring. The game mechanics were simple and functional. You needed to think a little about what you were doing but never in a way that felt monotonous. Nothing felt out of balance and I never needed to go out of my way to get extremely powerful. Sins Of The Demon is set up in a way that allows anyone to jump in and enjoy a game without being bogged down by complicated RPG mechanics. Halfway through the game you’re only Level 5 but you don’t need to be stronger. Most fights are optional or easily avoided, as they are represented by moving sprites on the map. You never need to fight your way through an area unless you want to, or you feel you need to.

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars

So basically, this is a slightly naughtier Persona 3.

You’re a kid in an academy with specials powers, although in this game there is no separate reality, it’s all taking place in the same world so everyone knows about it, in fact it’s what your academy is for.

You bond with the ladies, you make star children with them and you go into very Persona style dungeons and kill things until you meet a boss that beats that dungeon. There is no sex in this game although the cutscene for making star children is pretty suggestive. It’s not that type of game if that’s what you’re here for.

Fortune Summoners

Fortune Summoners

While this game has a lot in common with the other works localized by Carpe Fulgur, it is miles behind even the level of polish on EasyGameStation titles. I recommend the game overall, but be warned that it aggravates on multiple levels. Don’t pick it up if you’re not willing to tolerate the cons below.

Having said that, the characters were memorable enough that I think back on it fondly.

Pros:

  • It really is just as adorable as it looks.

  • The combat is more involved than the mindless hack and slash in a lot of Recettear.

The Short Version

  • The games story does have a resolution, but it hints towards a sequel (that doesnt exist and will never because the dev doesnt make games anymore)

  • The combat is challenging, the enemies have a lot of attacks but so do you, try them all and you’ll have no trouble

  • There is no map, but the layouts of the overworld and dungeon are simple enough to keep them in your head, but complex enough to be fun to explore

  • You cant save anywhere, its not a problem in the overworld as it is easy to reach savepoints there, sometimes there are save points inside dungeons and once you get somewhere in a dungeon it is much easier to get there again
