Betrayal Collection

Betrayal Collection

I got this as part of a bundle on 90% discount.

In my opinion, even at full price it is worth the money. I have already spent many hours playing these 2 games. Both run perferctly on Windows 10, I had no problem whatsoever.

Betrayal at Krondor is a classic old school RPG, comprised of 9 chapters, a must play for RPG fans. The first 3 chapters and the 6th are open world, the others are limited to a specific part of the general map.

I enjoyed each chapter very much, the skills of the characters (e.g. melee) can be improved by reading relevant books available in numerous shops in various towns, by paying NPCs for lectures or by fighting enemies. Special skills, like haggling or barding can be constantly improved by bying items in shops or by playing the lute in taverns.

Betrayal at Krondor has some shortcomings. It looks like shit - not even “by today’s standards”, it came out looking like shit, with a horrible 3d world, and ludicrous actors in ren-faire costumes. It’s slow. It has no quest markers, and you have to write down everything you’re told, as there isn’t even a quest journal.

But it allows you to get out there into the wide open world, and do whatever. You want to wander in the entirely wrong direction, and get to the chapter 1 goal by going around the map? You’ll get your shit pushed in, but you’re free to do so.

Return to Krondor

Return to Krondor

I love the game, but I don’t love the fact that there are fatal mid-game crashes that Steam cannot support (i.e., the “missing .trx file” error) and Activision (the listed game owner) refuses to support due to its age. Why Steam sells a game that has zero support is beyond me. It should either be converted and tested for people using modern operating systems or it should be taken off the store.

Yeah, I do not know how I feel about the constant crashing cannot get past jahzeera in chapter 1 keeps crashing saying .trx error. I really loved this game when I was a kid and Steam cannot get their crap together for one second why put up a game that does not work?. I tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling to changing the .ini file with the directory to the tracks folder but no luck.

The Benza RPG

The Benza RPG

For fans of the television show, The Benza RPG is a dream come true. Literally every character in The Benza and Benza English can be found in the game.

The battle system reminds me of Final Fantasy 10 as you can switch characters in and out of combat if you have more than four. Each weapon has different skills attached to it which allows you to customize your team a bit. Party members each have their own set role in combat. Each character is really useful, and there is no character that I just left on the bench. My favorite part about this is that even characters not in combat gain experience. It was really fun that the main cast of the television show voiced their characters, but I wished they had subtitles. Maybe a future update?

A bit of backstory. The Benza is a Japanese web tv show about a couple guys wanting to replace their broken toilet seat and end up getting dragged into a crazy supernatural quest to save the world. The Benza RPG is a nice companion to the show, trapping the whole cast of characters in a video game universe. If you’re familiar with the show, the humor sticks, so I recommend watching a few episodes first. Otherwise, I don’t know if anything would make sense.

Pros

-surprisingly deep story

-witty dialogue

Always A New Journey

Always A New Journey

Although progress was delayed significantly, work has resumed.

Always a New Journey is a very early development rpg rogue-lite.

Inspiration comes from a lot of 90’s jrpgs, and some new ones.

You’ll choose one of four characters to start, with four more that can be unlocked.

Take your chosen hero through random floors of the dungeon to unlock more companions, things to craft, and upgrades for your town hub.

Or if you get strong enough, maybe even reach the top.

Combat takes place in a side view turn battle system familiar to any final fantasy or jrpg fan.

Heavy emphasis will be put on making the battles difficult enough to require strategic thought. Just hitting “attack” over and over should hopefully be a terrible strategy after the 2nd or 3rd floors. A lot of fun mechanics are in place to give you lots of choice in battles, such as unique limited use abilities for main characters, the ability to charge up your attacks and buffs, and weakness protection that you will absolutely want to be breaking as much as you can.

Upon death, you’ll lose everything except for any saved coin. You’ll also keep any town unlocks, and if you’re a farmer there’s probably some fruit and veggies waiting for whatever new character you’ve chosen!

Deep Sea Valentine

Deep Sea Valentine

the art and characters are cute and the story is simple but consistently well-written, though the gameplay can be a bit buggy and walking around can be tedious at times. still, it’s a cute game and i’d say it’s worth playing. some characters suffered from having less screen time, making their endings seem abrupt, and i think triche’s ending overall could be set up better. otherwise, liked it a lot.

A very charming dating sim, featuring a cast of some very fine fishy femmes!

I think if Deep Sea Valentine looks like the kind of game you would be interested in, it’s not going to disappoint you.

It’s a cute and funny game with great writing and a nice soundtrack, what more can you ask for?

P.S. Moka is my favorite :)

Stonekeep

Stonekeep

While not as intricate and complex as the Eye of the Beholder series, nor as vast and grandiose as the Might and Magic series, Stonekeep is surely a great addition to the dungeon-crawler genre.

The motion capture technique still gives a little something extra to the game’s visuals.

Music is on point and follows accordingly.Nothing great but it sets the mood. However, there are some singing faeries midgame that will definitely make your day :)

This game does suffer from a couple of bugs that may halt your progress. So be sure to keep a different save at the start of every level.(You should be doing that anyway)

One of the best entries in a classic genre that has only recently seen a revival thanks to titles like Legend of Grimrock, and a piece of PC gaming history as one of the first titles to offer support for Windows ‘95.

Stonekeep offers everything one expects from a classic first-person, grid-based action RPG and more. The setting is interesting and well-fleshed out. The cast is full of wonderful and diverse characters – fully voice-acted, quite possibly a first for the genre. There’s even a nice recipe for muffins hidden in the game’s data files.

Legacy of Vane

Legacy of Vane

If you like this type of rpg then better get this game.

Music- always fit the situation, haunting, beautiful, etc.

Story- interesting and well thought out. with a great ending and room for a sequel.

Dialogue- good but could have been wittier.

Options- I love options and here are more than usual. Battles can be real time or turn based.

Customization of character- Yes to some extent and many images to choose from.

Price- Developer is practically giving it away. Certainly worth much more than being asked.

Legacy of Vane is an addictve, well designed, challenging, and fun rpg. Graphics are terrific, story fantastic, game play top-notch, with so many innovative features such as jewels (which any character can equip which adds various powerful magic and powerups), and each character has a special ability which is used and needed throughout the game. There is a wide variety of monsters, battles are quick, with a good number of towns, castles, caves, etc. Most weapons/armor/rings give additional skills. And the best of all is a developer(Landy) who is super quick to answer questions and give immediate help (including adding fixes and updates). This is a highly recommended and enjoyable rpg as Landy has once again produced a must play rpg.

COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND

COLLECTION of SaGa FINAL FANTASY LEGEND

Very solid classics JRPGs from the early days, no color, no hand holding, If you are fans of old JRPGs, don’t have a Gameboy and the games on hand I would greatly recommend giving this collection a try. A pretty unique combination of multiple concept rarely seen together in the same game. Swords, Magic, Technology and Monster all mixed together remind me of Phantasy Star. Each game are 10-15 hours or so depending on how well you handle the mechanics.

Final Fantasy Legend: Very rough game, you pretty much have to grind at the beginning and the end game jump in difficulty but the rest of the game is very fun. Having a monster in your party that can evolve depending on the enemy you kill and eat is a very fun mechanic. Weapons having a number of uses will be familiar to fans of Fire Emblem and I must say it works pretty well. Story and tower climbing concept are pretty simple but there are a twist or two.

Real player with 34.0 hrs in game

I bought this game since it brings back memories and if you compare the price of all 3 back in those day and now, this is definitely cheaper. Only get this is you were a fan of this game.

Reason why I wouldn’t recommend this game is that it is simply a port over, no improvements whatsoever. Pre-ordering this gets some wallpaper but we don’t get everything that is in the promo video like the coloured versions of the bosses etc.

My controller didn’t work with this

Would be good if they had settings to remove the background wallpaper. it’s just taking up screen space pointlessly

Inferno - Beyond the 7th Circle

Inferno - Beyond the 7th Circle

Inferno - Beyond the 7th Circle is a first-person RPG with a horror theme that’s a sequel/spiritual successor to The 7th Circle - Endless Nightmare. Plot-wise there’s no connection between the two games–in the 7th Circle you played a man’s subconscious fighting his inner demons, and in Inferno you play a human survivor fighting literal demons who have all but conquered Earth.

It’s hard to review Inferno without comparing it to the 7th Circle because the two games are so similar. Both are first-person dungeon crawlers, and the basic gameplay of the two games are identical. Nearly all of the enemies are identical too. (there are only 7 or so new ones not counting palette swaps) If you liked one you’ll probably like the other, and vice versa. Where the games differ is that The 7th Circle was restricted to a single dungeon with 20-odd floors and had a permadeath/metaprogression mechanic; Inferno is more of a sprawling open world and abandons the permadeath model for a more traditional RPG.

Pros:

-Enjoyed character customization and the control given to me for said character growth.

-Enjoyed RNG rolls for gear.

-Enjoyed combo build up in combat.

-Enjoyed utilizing spells and status ailments for a varied combat experience.

-Enjoyed the 1st 2/3rd of the game in terms of difficulty.

-The setting is very unique and I feel it will likely become the new sensation as cyberpunk dies down.

-Enjoyed punching out demon lords and the duke of hell with my bare hands 10/10 would fist hell spawn again~
