Ragtag Crew

Ragtag Crew

You will lead a squad of scavengers on a venture across the wasteland in pursuit of profit, food and all sorts of cool stuff! Each character has a unique combination of class and personality, which will provide an unrepeatable (literally!) adventure.

Combat action breaks by short ironic events, during which the traits of the heroes are revealed, and your choices determine your own history of the squad. The pool of events is large, and personalities and classes can drastically change the outcomes.

Your enemies will be strong but predictable. You need to explore their flaws and quickly adapt to different enemy compositions.

  • Each run, choose 3 characters out of 8 classes (some unlockable). Experiment with synergies and party compositions to slay everyone in your way!

  • Every character can choose a personality from the 7 available (some unlockable). These influence their dialogue, battle capabilities, relationships, morale, stats, and overall style — but most importantly, they can drastically change the course of events.

  • The heart of the game lies in the tough tactical fights. The enemies are strong, but often have flaws to exploit. Adapt, improve, overcome!

  • Slay bosses… or sneak past. These large and unique enemies come with their own mechanics and storylines. The rewards may be game-changing — but are you in a good enough condition to take them on? Sometimes it’s smarter to walk past a fight.

  • As you progress through the game, more options become available.

  • Every node on the map offers a text event. A smart choice can grant you loot, help two characters form a bond, or hint at the deeper truth behind the events. An unsuccessful one might end in a disaster.

  • Over the course of an adventure the party members will grow to become friends… or bitter enemies. Nudge their stories to receive unique events and outcomes!

  • From cute baby lizards to passionate fighter-pilgrims, all kinds of characters may aid you on your journey.

  • A mixture of post-apoc, Westerns, and sci-fi creates a relatable yet original world. “Firefly meets Douglas Adams.”

  • Try again. Most bands of misfits fail — this is a roguelite, after all. But even failed runs bring progress in the form of unlockable classes, personalities, and items. You’ll be better equipped next time — and the game’s high variance offers high replayability.

Roguelite 2

Roguelite 2

RECOMMENDED 7/10

Roguelite 2 is an inexpensive and fun implementation of the traditional rogue game using RPG maker graphics.

What I like most about this game is the “persistence” mechanics.

Each dungeon run has a chance to complete a series of quest-like achievements. These achievements, when completed, will then open up some small bonuses in future dungeon run. These bonuses can come in the form of unlocking new classes, better starting weapons and armor, or even some useful consumables like healing and resurrecting potions, etc. So, when you play this game, the best strategy is to focus on fulfilling the quest requirements and then your next dungeon run will be better.

JRPG style rougelite as the title suggests, but mostly turn-based so it might be better to call it a rougelike if one bothers to make the distinction.

Pros:

  • Feels very relaxing and familiar as some one who has played a lot of (J)RPGs & rougelites.

  • Has good humor and well drawn characters that make it feel enjoyable.

  • Runs with a 4-person party, which adds a bit of depth which would otherwise be lacking.

  • Auto-saves at the begging of each floor.

Cons:

  • Lacks the greater depth and complexity of other rougelites and thus ends up as more of a casual game than a serious intricate challenge of a game.

  • Graphics will sometimes freeze in a fight forcing you to redo a floor. This is mitigated fairly well by the auto-save which happens after the floor randomization so you will find the same loot & enemies on the replay of the floor.

  • Boss fights occur every 5 floors & are one of the big limiting factors in succeeding in a run, but are not particularly randomized which is disappointing as it hurts the enjoyment of replayability once the player has become comfortable with each of the bosses after fighting them a few times.

Atlas Rogues

Atlas Rogues

I was a big fan of Atlas Reactor and plugged in almost 2000 hours into it having only played it between 2016 and 2019. I have nothing but fond memories of grouping up with my friends and if not achieving a consistent streak of victories, we always at least experienced some epic moments and mostly respectful and respectable opponents we could congratulate in the general chat after a match. The world, mechanics, and the vibe was so unique and I couldn’t get enough of it.

And then the servers were shutdown and I was left feeling a huge void in my gaming life not having a team based game to play with others. Nothing against Overwatch or Awesomenauts, as I played those to fill the void for a year, but they could never compare to this brilliant and unique experience. All of mid 2019 and mid 2020, I was wishing and hoping Atlas Reactor could somehow come back. Maybe Gamigo could give the former Trions staff another chance to revitalize the game with new content and a paid for model to afford the servers required to run it. Or maybe a group of dedicated fans can make a spiritual successor with similar mechanics but with a whole new set of characters in a brand new world.

Atlas Rogues, like most rogueish games of its kind, aims to have a solid mix of RNG, strategy, and skill all bundled together to create an experience that can prove reliably challenging while allowing to new flavours to spark up throughout each and every run as you unlock new characters, new abilities, and new questlines throughout your gameplay. It should be noted, that those seeking the time limited phase by phase PVP chess like arena experience of Atlas Reactor will likely not find it here as this game sits in a different genre using the same universe.

A member of my party steps on a landmine, i deactivate it and the land mine joins my team, if the turn ends and there is not another unit over the land mine, it explodes dealing 70% of health to the entire team (basically a instant game over), and the same if it gets destroyed. One of my party members gets mad at the land mine and attacks it, killing the land mine and the entire team.

Dungeon Rushers

Dungeon Rushers

So here is my review. I just pulled it straight from the discussions page where i wrote it. Sadly its all true, and none of it is subjective. These issues all exist. So if you can justify playing 20$$ to put up with all the below issues, have at er.

Glitches/ bugs . update the game

Hello,

I purchased game and have played about 5 hours. I already have discovered some major glitches.

  1. When you win a fight, and collect reward, you are often ripped off out of your loot. For example almost any time the game tells you recieve more than 1 of any given crafting item, you only actually recieve 1!!!! 3 iron and 3 skulls as reward it says on screen, nope you get one of each. This happens almost every time, especially with iron, the ONE resource you seem to need for everything.

Dungeon Rushers is fun turn-based rpg focused adapting to different enemies and situations as you progress. While I have been playing I have seen several updates to fix what the game currently offered, was well as new content added in that has made the game even more enjoyable.

While the gameplay can be seen as repetative at first, it does become more interesting as you progress. The gradual addition of enemies as you progress as well as new team members positioned throughout the campaign add a level of fluidity to the combat system so it does not get too dull.

Warriors of the Nile

Warriors of the Nile

I saw Celerity play this game on one of his streams and it looked fun. I’ve never played Into the Breach, but I do like Slay the Spire, Monster Train and other turn-based strategy games so I thought I’d give this a shot.

I will say, this game has an extremely steep learning curve. The mechanics themselves are pretty simple, however you will probably die a ton to boss fights in particular, mainly because summon effects are not properly explained. The scorpion boss in act 2 and the lion boss in act 1 are the most egregious examples of this. It would be nice to have a tooltip somewhere that showed what units were spawned when a unit dies.

Real player with 45.9 hrs in game

Game was fun for the first few hours, but becomes extremely repetitive, because players are forced to restart the entire campaign (27 levels) every time they lose a level. This is not a bad feature for a hardcore game for the hardcore gamers, but considering that this is basically a mobile style turn-based tactical strategy game costing $13 (minus the pay-to-win gimmicks), the game is a bit simplistic and repetitive to force players to do Iron Man mode as the only mode.

RNG is the real determining factor in this game as well. You are guaranteed to fail on a run depending on what “upgrade tablets” appear for you to choose from, as well as certain units. The was 1 run I made where I got about 1/3 of my characters' upgrades to be Epic & Legendary ones, and another where I got to level 15 with only commons ones to choose from for each of the 3 characters for example.

Legend of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Manager

Legend of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Manager

Legend of Keepers is a great rogue-lite game in which you manage a dungeon as part of a monster corporation. This corporation employs powerful dungeon keepers that set up traps, cast spells, and train monsters to protect the treasure at the end of the dungeon from heroes,, which are seeking to enrich themselves while destroying monsters and reversing all your hard work.

Gameplay:

The game is played over weeks, each week having one or more options for you to choose from. It plays a bit like slay the spire in that you can’t backtrack to any nodes you skipped, but it being framed as a schedule makes a lot more sense than the more abstract way a lot of rogue-lite games do this.

Real player with 46.2 hrs in game

I REALLY tried to like this game, and overall would say I had a fun time, but there are enough factors that in accumulation makes Legend of Keepers feel very disappointing.

Before getting into the long list of bad, there are some good aspects:

  • The game has a fair amount of content, taking around 30-50 hours for 100% completion and 100 total hours if you wanted to do all that and max the skill tree of all characters including DLC.

  • The pixel art style for the game works great.

  • It is an interesting twist on being the antagonist in a game.

Legend of Keepers: Prologue

Legend of Keepers: Prologue

Disclaimer: This is essentially a demo version of a game that is still being developed as of this moment. Full game has it’s own store page on steam under “Legend of Keepers: Career of a Dungeon Master”.

  • This game has Slay The Spire kind of adventure progression system which is lot of fun, addictive and still quite unique. If you enjoyed Slay the Spire odds are you will love this game.

  • Effects are really cool and feel very satisfying.

  • Core gameplay is designed very well. It’s mostly strategy with a pinch of randomness balanced quite well to give the game both depth and replayability.

Real player with 22.9 hrs in game

CONS:

Could/should have a much clearer interface (sometimes you get 2 out of 3 identical choices for enemies with no explanations, or you get a false warning for insufficient resources for an event while you have plenty). Room order and available groups/traps for the rooms are randomized, so you get some illogical choices sometimes and I guess some people could dislike that. Somewhat heavy on old laptops, quite surprisingly (maybe a bit more choices for video settings could work).

PROS:

But yeah, the game is super good and fun, many monsters and traps to choose from, somewhat different strategies for different hero group compositions, fantastic pixel art, probably a lot more variety when the game comes out with skill trees, unlockables, more monsters and more Keepers. Will buy full game on release, probably, depending on price, but unless it’s crazy I think it will be worth it.
