Roundguard

Roundguard

Full disclosure: I beta tested this game a lot because it’s THAT fun. Day 1 purchase for me.

TL;DR:

  • Peggle + Rogue-like + dungeon crawler

  • Fun, highly addictive gameplay

  • Super charming and endearing aesthetic

  • Delicious mix of adrenaline wrapped in a cocoon of accessible, easy controls

  • Victory music feels like a dance party in your heart

Longer notes:

This game is freaking awesome. I’ve sunk hours into it! It’s so easy to pick up and play. I can get satisfying sessions out of sneaking 15 minutes or going for 1.5 hours straight. It’s Peggle, but with monsters you have to defeat. And you get to use skills mid-turn after you’ve fired your shot. The loot and upgrades are interesting and fun to engage with, and that’s coming from someone who usually thinks of loot management or skill comparison as cumbersome. It’s in the goldilocks zone of loot mechanics.

This is it, folks! The next casual game you’ve been waiting for. It’s like Peggle and Diablo/Torchlight had a baby, and Slay the Spire came over to babysit. It’s a Peggle/rogue-like, but instead of a shiny ball, YOU’RE a “round guard” - a literal spherical hero bouncing your colorful and humorous way through three acts of a dungeon(crawl) to the big baddie at the end. You bounce just like a Peggle ball, but you also smash health and mana potions, level up your hero, upgrade your gear, obtain rare relics, throw on spell-imbued trinkets, and honestly, in general, have a blast! MAN, I love this game! It’s gorgeous, completely replayable, and it has that “just one more round” quality you so desire in a game such as this. I mean, honestly, highlights:

Dandy Dungeon - Legend of Brave Yamada -

Loved this game back when it was still on mobile. So far this version doesn’t disappoint either. This version is free from the f2p mechanics that it had on phones, and It’s a real gem. Gameplay is quite unique and the story and characters are… crazy weird lovable. You can see a lot of love has been put into this by the devs!

Some points of critique:

  • An important/critical gameplay mechanic (“0-hp healing”) is never explained in-game

  • Overall, the pacing of the game has some problems. Some dungeons (and especially some bosses) are quite hard or almost impossible to beat without specific resistances, but the equipment that gives you those are hard to discover or only unlocked quite late. (Still looking for ice resistance shield at the time of writing this…)

Don’t get me wrong the game was fun and charming but some people including me run into some major bug. If you are one of the lucky one whose games don’t get bug, then good for you. While they do accept bug report, they never tell us when exactly will they fix said bug. Also none of the people who posted about bug on steam ,never said that the latest patch fix their bug.

This is the bug I have. I can’t access the special store in which preventing me from getting revival item aka riceball. Not having revival item isn’t game-breaking right now but when part 2 hit us ,the game difficulty will increase even more. Plus they will add new costume in that shop meaning I will be missing out on content (that I paid for). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alnuxdj4qhQ

Bullet Grinder

Dynamic game. As a child, I played such games. Something like mario, only you are armed and the game is more dynamic. The game is going in one breath. I really liked the game. I recommend the game to all my friends. Thanks to the developers, I plunged into childhood.

A funny and very interesting 2-d platformer, where you will need to kill robot enemies throughout the game, try not to fall into traps and survive to the maximum. Finding the keys, we can open chests with unrealistically cool weapons, which will help our confrontation against these bastards.

Fidel Dungeon Rescue

Fidel Dungeon Rescue

Fidel Dungeon Rescue is to puzzle games what Spelunky is to platformers. (To clarify, this is a very high compliment, as Spelunky is probably my favourite video game of all time.)

Truthfully though, both games really do share some familiar elements and design decisions. In this game, you play a cute little dog having to rescue Grandma from a dungeon filled with all sorts of baddies. You navigate through multiple, tile-based floors, killing enemies as you go, and leaving your leash trailing behind you, blocking you from ever stepping on the same tile twice. Where the similarities to Spelunky begin are in familiar enemy motifs such as spiders, snakes or flesh-eating plants. Further similiarity arises in a time-based ghost, the randomized rogue-lite nature of the game and the strategic, yet fast-paced gameplay that Fidel’s mechanics enable.

I like Fidel Dungeon Rescue a lot. I revisit it once in a while to complete the daily challenge or beat the main game. It never goes on too long and is always fun.

One of it’s strengths is definitely it’s great replayability. Since puzzles are randomly generated, two dungeons are never the same, and it has a real impact on the gameplay. Due to the various rules of each different tiles and creatures, a slight position offset may drastically change the best path to an exit. There’s also many possible solutions to most puzzles, so some thought is always required even with “obvious” situations.

Firekeep

Firekeep

Firekeep is a minimalist, relaxing strategy game about building a tiny, sustainable city in the cold void of space. Build, combine and upgrade dozens of unique buildings to overcome procedurally-generated islands and keep your fire burning. Enjoy a relaxing yet strategically deep experience where a single run can be completed quickly, but new islands and new building combinations will keep you starting new runs over and over again!

Firekeep is all about making the most of your limited space. Each tile can support one building, and each building produces and requires different resources. Once a building has access to all the resources it needs, it upgrades into a new building that produces new, additional resources. The catch? Buildings can only send and receive resources to and from the tiles right next to them. Plus, buildings that spend too long without any connections, or that have their environment compromised, will become ruins, leading to potentially disastrous chain reactions!

Firekeep contains over 50 unique buildings for players to discover on their quest to build the central beacon, plus special projects that will change the very fabric of your island. That said, the game is currently in a very early state, so feel free to send bugs to us on Twitter, or follow for news and updates!

The Legend of Bum-Bo

The Legend of Bum-Bo

Firstly, I do enjoy this game, I received it as a gift from a friend and had an enjoyable time, however, The Legend of Bum-bo was last updated 14 December 2019 and is very unpolished. I hope this game gets updated and its issues are addressed. Note: as of 18/5/2020 the co-creator said this game is being handed off to another team for further work I’m hoping changes occur and then I’ll update this review.

Currently the Legend of Bum-bo feels like an early access game, while it is presented as a finished product. I’m a massive fan of Ed’s other products including Binding of Isaac and it’s dlc’s, and the physical card game (I truly adore the art, asthetic and quotes on the cards). However, buyers should be aware that this product is more flawed and less polished then other Edmund McMillen work’s, and consumers should consider looking at gameplay before purchase to see if it is right for them.

REVIEW UPDATE 20.11.2019

The game received a huge amount of bug fixes and very small QoL addons ( Even doe the sound menu should had been there from the beginning ) and the game started to get more and more enjoyable. It really shows that the devs really care of the game and that they listen to the complains that the community has. Huge Plus!

INITIAL REVIEW 13.20.2019

Catch a Duck

Catch a Duck

Simple but tactful game of mouse and cat chase puzzles.

Requires some quick thinking, good reflexes and patience.

Cheesy voice acts.

Clunky controls and very sensitivity at times around ‘corners’.

Eating number of ducks achievements, required to be ‘in one single game session’.

Was decent.

Real player with 5.2 hrs in game

Catch a Duck is a cute little action-arcade game with 25 levels and 5 bonus levels, offering a couple hours of gameplay. The graphics, music, and SFX are appropriately stylised and consistent throughout, and it does achieve a feeling of being a sly fox: chasing down rabbits into dead end passages; luring wolves and bears into traps; tricking hunters into shooting at each other.

Unfortunately, the game is also very flawed: mostly in minor ways that are needlessly annoying or confusing. For example, you can’t navigate the menus using a mouse. That seems like an oversight.
