Rover Builder

Rover Builder

(Oct 8)

A bunch of changes have been made. Generally building has improved greatly with symmetry working properly now, and the addition of namable crafts.

There could still be improvements like the ability to copy paste sections or copy paste part parameters, but id say this is easily worth your time if you like physics sandbox games now as you arent fighting the clunkiness as much.

(initial)

Its obviously very ea, but that doesnt change the review does it. I cant recommend it in its current state, but il update if that changes.

I definitely enjoy playing this game; it lets me unleash my inner engineer. I have had a lot of fun building unnecessarily complicated rovers. Despite having only a handful of parts (or maybe because of it), Rover Builder is a deceptively challenging game.

However, there are a few bugs/issues that I have found rather detracting. Fixing these will greatly improve the game.

  • Bearings don’t always load correctly when the simulation starts. Sometimes they disappear and sometimes steel beams coming off of the bearings are in the wrong orientation. In order to fix this, I have to go back to the builder, delete the bearings, and reinsert them. Sometimes even that doesn’t work.

I see great potential for the game, but as I’m writing the review now I’m only taking those things into consideration that are already in the game.

Gameplay: 5/5

Graphics: 5/5

Tutorials: 4/5

Difficulty: 5/5

Support: 5/5

Gameplay:

The gameplay loop is simple:

1. build/rearrange production line

2. set up the logistics for that line

3. tweak bits and pieces to make it profitable

4. plan the next production line / change the line output to another product

For me that is exactly what I was looking for. You create something, an issue arises, you fix that issue and that leads to another issue or you’re set and you create the next new thing.

i loved the concept but the execution is so EXTREAMLY flawed..

market: why is it capped so low in FREEPLAY. ive tried countless times trying to tweak the my out puts. But literally ever single time ive played the supply chains get so damn long that I cannot maintain a profitable business with out producing more then I can sell which ironically makes me go bankrupt

out/in bound shipping: why can we move these? Why is there a limit to how many items I can place in the in/out bound points with out the ability to upgrade them?

HexLab

HexLab

So… what exactly is Hexlab?

Well, it’s a bit of an odd game with an odd premise. Drone controlled hexagons squishing other hexagons? I can’t say I’ve heard of that before. But odd doesn’t necessarily mean bad.

Pros:

-Very laid back and relaxed (personally found it good for unfrying my brain after a couple hours of Factorio)

-Multiple unit types and drone commanders, which allows for lots of different strategies

-Rewards intelligent gameplay

-A lot like chess, easy to learn

Cons:

-Campaign is only 19 levels (I finished it in under an hour)

HexLab is similar to chess or checkers in the Sci-Fi setting, where the difference in the heights of the playing field is used.

An unusual project with its deep atmosphere. The game has some kind of its own attractive magic. Music and graphics are chosen perfectly, ideally emphasizing unhurried meditative gameplay.

Game mechanics is unusual, I have not yet met such games. I like that the developer is trying to come up with something new, unique and original.

The game is difficult, requiring thinking over each turn. On the playing field are hexes of the opponent and the player, which he buys before the match.

This game takes an interesting take on mechs. This game focuses on the civilian use of mechs. Normally mech games revolve around giant mechs fighting, but I’ve never enountered a game that featured civilian non-combat mechs before. In this way this game is unique. It’s been suggested in the forums that combat mechs be added, and the dev said he would consider it after the core mechanics are in place. But this game includes currently the ability to make mechs for racing, transportation, and general use.

Let me start by saying this game - in its current state - is not great. It is amazing, an actual gem.

Ok let me clarify that. The game, in and of itself is pretty basic - incredibly so - but its so so much fun to play. I find myself playing this game when I am frustrated with another game as this is just funny as hell to play. Wanna make a mech that looks like boobs on wheels/legs? GOOD here you are. Wanna make a mech that looks like your eyes will melt just by looking at it’s sheer monstrosity? GOOD here you are.

Any Early Access game that listens to its community is worth buying. This is one such game.

Since I’ve bought this game around 15 months ago, I’ve been in a love/hate relationship with it. I’ve gone from a positive review, to a negative review, back to a positive review, and now I’m hopefully putting my final word on this…

When I first found this game it was like the re-creation of childhood memories of playing with K’nex and legos, building starships and vehicles and battling it out. It was a concept I wanted to program into a game myself in my early adult life but still haven’t laid a finger on understanding 3D graphics. The hype was real. I look at the minimum requirements…crap. I seriously need to upgrade. I buy it anyway…it runs, choppily, and I play the hell of out for a few months and love it to pieces. I build a rather large tech I dubbed Juggernaut with an onboard scrapper, refineries, furnace generators, and delivery cannons. I clash titan to titan with twitter invasions. I’d almost say the 3 fps slideshow due to my outdated computer made it more cinematic. I studied flight for days to build a successful quadcopter. I merrily flew around the entire planet, stopping occasionally to collect loot pedestals before blasting off again.

Edit:

I want to preface by thanking everyone who has taken time out of their day to read, rate, and respond to my personal hot take on a game I have stated I do thoroughly enjoy. It fills my heart knowing that while many of you could be doing literally anything more productive than taking the opinion of another voice in the vast internet noise with anything more than a grain of salt means that my time here has not been wasted. Honestly, I was not expecting to receive a whole lot of feedback, especially from a dev themselves!

All Aspect Warfare

If you want an idea of how infantry conflict (without indirect fire) would be in the future, play this game.

The scenario is that you are one of a surviving team of soldiers/airman (there’s one pilot among you) on a planet that is essentially a live-fire training area for an enemy race’s military.

Yep, an entire planet that’s really one big impact area with a few bases scattered on it.

How did you get there? Well, the spaceship that you were on was carrying a planet buster to plant on the enemy home world (yeah, the war’s going that badly) was damaged en-route and crashed here. After arming the planet buster, of course.

This was actually a fascinating concept back in 2009 and I even had some fun playing it. Unfortunately the bugs were never fixed and it is left a broken mess. The fact that the developer appears to have been actively working to remove bad reviews from the store page makes it quite obvious that the game is never going to get the love it requires and as such my only recommendation can be to spend your money elsewhere.

Play a beginner programmer!

You can program the car to do all kinds of things.

The way of programming is very simple, just need to set a variety of built-in instructions provided by the game; however, as long as they are arranged intelligently, their combination can play a lot of unexpected effects!

Even if you are a novice, you can also manually set a fixed program to bypass the maze and reach the end!

When your program ability has improved, you can make the program more intelligent, so that they are not just mechanical execution of the program, but will be flexible simple intelligence!

Now I realize this might have appeal only to a specific demographic, but it’s a demographic that’s rapidly growing. Do It Yourself hobbies are on the rise and climbing faster everyday. Leading the charge is the world of electronics. I myself am a relatively new inductie. About 8 months ago, while plugging in my phone charger at work, staring at the powerstrip under my desk it occurred to me that I don’t know very much about electronics. I consider myself a learned guy, college grad with a degree in philosophy and a view that an education carries far more worth than it’s potential monetary value down the line. And I LOVE all things science so to not know much about something so pervasive as electronics didn’t sit well at all.

Real player with 21.4 hrs in game

The limitations of what you can do with logic in this game are too severe, and once you get to the more advanced levels, the problems too complex to solve correctly within those limits. It’s not a big deal when you’re following a line or solving a maze, but once the puzzle environments get chaotic, winning a given level often involves a fair amount of reliance on luck.

Mostly it’s that you have very few spaces of logic gates, and even splitting a signal requires that place down a “gate” that splits your wire into 2 or 3 connections. You might have a sophisticated solution in mind, but you can’t afford the spaces or the gates to implement it. You can’t even afford to build a simple set/reset latch, because that requires 6+ spaces - two ANDS, two NOTs, and two wire splitters. Implementing “use the smaller of two sensor values” is usually either not possible or prohibitively expensive in space and part costs.

Can’t really recommend this game. Seems to be pretty poorly constructed. I’ll try to point out some of the design flaws.

Game crashed and dupped the rig I was working on. I broke the game and I wasn’t even trying

UI is pretty confusing. You can’t tell what is buttons and what isn’t.

Inconsistent UI, i.e. you can sell Eth from the escape menu but have to go into the market to sell BTC.

Outside of the tutorial, which is short, there’s really nothing to do but let money accrue. Might as well be an idle game.

Before I slam this game for all the problems it has, I will say I’d be willing to revisit this after they fix the issues and make some enhancements moving forward.

Pros -

1. Fairly easy to move forward with mining and building

2. Allows one to redesign there room

3. Offers a sandbox environment.

Cons - (there are a lot!)

1. Customer builds never seem to work, After accepting a task, building to spec, placing in customer pickup area …nothing happens.

2. Sometimes buying a rack comes completely assembled
