[PLAYED ON REGULAR DIFFICULTY]

Just from the brief amount I’ve played, I’m kinda surprised that this game has been abandoned. So, for those who have stumbled upon this game by accident (maybe your friend had it in their library or you got a coupon for in from badges), here’s a quick review for ya.

A Nifty Game is a very simple 2D rougelite shooter, similar to “Enter The Gungeon” in overall gameplay. Where it deviates though is through it’s simplicity and clunkiness. Encounters are very simple as they only involve dodging and shooting, and you eventually enter an overpowered state depending on how lucky you’ve gotten during a run. Still, I’ve found myself enjoying the little spirts of battle in the game, even when the clunkiness started showing up. I’m calling the clunkiness an intended feature of the game, given how it ended. I bring it up since there will be points where you escape from the map or where the visuals will look like they’re broken. Still, I found these bits of clunkiness fine and in some aspects enjoyable. The only real problem I have with the game is the music, or lack thereof. The trailer might be chiptune, but all you’ll really hear in the game is wind.

I enjoy a lot of clicker games, and I did enjoy this one as well at first, but the game has a few achievements that are way too grindy to keep enjoying the game. After completing all the other achievements I have the following achievements left:

  • clicking 100k energized trees left (I only got around 10k while getting the other achievements with active play)

  • Start/complete 100 jobs, most of them take 1 to 2h in real life which means you have to log in every 1/2h to start a new job if you want to get through this one as fast as possible.

Really fun game, it is not as indepth as other clickers but I like the chill environment and themes

Cross play is cool as well, I was a fan of the mobile game so I liked being able to bring my progress over

Runs pretty well on my computer too :)

I like the art and I think that it has potential to be pretty good. I am unsure how to accomplish it but the mouse being the indicator of where you swing your sword isn’t that good when you’re constantly moving around. A different control scheme would certainly help. A little more content would be nice but for the price it was a pretty decent framework for a game. I would also recommend more sounds for when enemies are hit and different ways to attack. Great start for a game but definitely needs work.

Thank you for all of your hard work, Craig. I remember when I started this game for the first time, and I remember when I first stumbled into the caves, a little boy went into those caves; and a man came out. I was so young, and so malleable when I first started playing Total Miner. I can’t even count the number of hours we stayed up, going to the store and grabbing tons of junk food to go play a “Total Miner Nighter”. We never had better times in our lives, just sitting there, couch gaming like the purest form. I watched this game grow, and change…I spent countless hours worrying if my world would get griefed or not trying to unlock the King skin. I wanted it so badly and I was inviting people to my worlds constantly just trying to get it all done just so I could shut down multiplayer and never touch it again! I was afraid of the others, but…now it’s not big deal, I look back and I laugh. My old Xbox is still FULL of worlds that are completed and decked out, big buildings and loaded chests. We kept them all. One night we booted up the Xbox and just…relived it all. “Hehehe, I remember this world, this was the world where we found the bed blueprint super late and it was really difficult” “That one was my favorite! Our house was so big and our rooms were so personalized.” These moments were so jovial and packed with real tender meaning. They are irreplaceable, Craig, and I owe them to you. It doesn’t matter if you don’t see this, but I want to tell you you have a fan and a follower for life. I wanted to pitch my own music into the game, or to have worked alongside you as we designed some music themes together. But I was a little too late to that rodeo.

When I started playing this game back in 2012, I was a complete noob. I had a great friend help me with all sorts (Making money, getting good fast, etc) and me and him played all of the time on his Dig Deep world where we had gotten to the 2nd Underworld area. We had full Titanium armour, a bunch of chests full of Sledgehammers (Due to the spider-kill Sledgehammer drop when reaching Bedrock), stacks of money, all sorts of stuff. Sadly, back in 2015, he went Black (EDIT: By Black, I mean he disappeared from the internet and being onlne.). He wasn’t online when I went online (Usually he would msg me and we would play nearly daily) as he normally would be. I wonder what happened to him for months before I converted over to PC completely. I messaged him about this, but he was not online. As soon as this game came out for PC, I got hit with an immense amount of nostalgia. I dedicate this purchase to my good friend, the one who helped me with everything in this game, the friend who forgave any fumbles on this game. I won’t forget you

Teardown

Teardown

This game is wonderful.

From the satisfying explosions & realistic lighting and weather, to satisfyingly destructive fire and physics, Teardown is by far the most amazing game I have played in 2021. I may be a bit late to the party, but Teardown has the potential to hold up for the future. If this ever gets ported to next-gen hardware, it would be magnificent. Everything in the game is so amazingly satisfying. Teardown, I must say, is the ultimate stress reliever. There is something so magical about seeing semi-realistic destruction, with no real consequences. Don’t even get me started on the infinite stream of modded weaponry, maps, and random features I didn’t know I needed.

The destruction in this game works incredibly well. It may disappoint some, what with it still abiding by the logic of even a few blocks connected to something can prevent a structure from falling apart, but I ended up viewing that as a useful tool to better break the environment the way I needed to more than a negative. Additionally the first part of the campaign got a bit heavy on timer based missions in which you set up and then have a minute to grab various objectives then escape the level, but these definitely are less common in part 2 and when they do show up they’re different enough from the first ones you get to justify their presence. Overall though, the destruction is great and it combined with the objectives of each mission makes for some very rewarding gameplay.

Ancient Dungeon

At the time of this review the game is still early access and a work in progress so I will not unfairly note any cons/bugs. The developer is very active on his Discord server which shows promise that this game will be a success and that it will follow through. With that said, while there are minor bugs and glitches, none were horrid or game breaking. If I had one word to sum this game up it’s “polished”.

I bought this game a week ago and have already sunk 40+ hours into it. This game runs flawlessly on my moderate gaming PC and Valve Index. It holds 144 FPS 100% of the time, literally no drop in frame rates according to fpsVR even after 8 hours of play. The polish of this game is astounding and the replay value is endless, especially with support for mods and the workshop. Many have mentioned Binding of Isaac and that’s what this is, except in first-person and catered for the unique environment of VR. It’s extremely challenging and with every new attempt I learn more, improve my skills, and make it a little further. Don’t be discouraged by death, you’ll die a lot and that’s how you improve to keep pushing forward the next run.

It took me a few runs before the addiction hit, but it has hit me hard. I’m writing this after beating the game on normal for the first time, and I’m pleased to find there still seems to be a lot left to do. I think at this point it’s safe to say I love this game.

The weapon handling is silky smooth and responsive. The combat mechanics don’t really go beyond swinging your blade or shooting your arrow, but each type of enemy has unique fighting patterns you’ll need to learn. (Confession: I kind of didn’t like the combat at first, because there wasn’t much blocking or parrying, and defense usually amounts to getting out of the way of an attack, but I’ve grown to enjoy it.)

Ace of Spades: Battle Builder

4 years.

I remember when I first bought this game. I was so happy and excited about it.

I remember when I first met “pros”. I wanted to play more and reach their level.

I remember when I actually reached 300 hours and thought myself to be the best player of all times. (Classical 300hrs syndrome (Everyone reaching 300hrs has it))

I remember huge amount of players playing this game.

I remember when devs actually supported (or pretended to support) the game.

I remember nice community, lots of interesting events and tons of fun.

UPDATE: Holy shiat this dead game got a new update. Oh wait, most of it is locked away behind a paywall! Hahahahahahahahaha-gasp-hahahahhaahaha.

Long read ahead, but worth it!

As someone who has played Ace of Spades for way too long, let me introduce the history of it to you first:

In April 2011, somebody called Ben Aksoy released a pretty decent and free FPS with voxel mechanics called Ace of Spades. This was a game that people mostly played on a randomly-generated map similar to Minecraft’s randomly-generated maps (only without the trees, only grass, some rivers and more hills). The default and only gamemode at the time was Capture The Flag. All of these in combination allowed for some fun gameplay that required some strategy. Dig tunnels to capture the enemy’s intel, or build a fort to defend your own intel. Every man only had a rifle, spade, grenades and some blocks (unlike most FPSes there were no newby spray-and-pray weapons).

Editing my review: there are enough toxic people to make this game basically unplayable right now. Some guns have needed balancing for months but nothing will change because of certain people in the community who love spawn camping with them. I highly doubt I will play this game again until the issues I mention below have been addressed.

I’ll start with the positives: the game is really fun and it’s a good mix between building, strategy, and shooting. The developers are extremely involved in the community, and there’s a lot of new content planned (game modes and maps). I’ve met a great group of friends through this game and we’ll typically hop on every night.

I cannot describe how undeservedly dead the game is in it’s current state. As a member of the small but cozy community that formed around the game, and the communities it interacted with, It’s very sad to see how empty it is. Vercidium, the game’s developer, has put an insane amount of work over five years to make it great, and you just cannot gloss over such commitment and effort. I previously was a moderator of the community, and can say from first hand experience how great every single person was, and is in the team or the community in general.

Sky Tale

Sky Tale

A fun game to pick up and enjoy some nice hours in sandbox mode or try to get the highest points possible. Quite simple but still enjoyable overall.

The achievements are fun and challenging, but the windmill/wheat field one seems to be broken/wrong, as with all 8 wheats placed directly next to water tiles seems to never trigger a progress on the achievement itself.

Some polishing might be required, so that users can actually know how many resources there are on a tile (X rocks, X trees), how many resources are taken by each building (e.g. by hovering over the tile) and how many points you get at the end turn from certain buildings (houses)

Real player with 10.1 hrs in game

sky tale is an islanders -like, so I’ll be making a lot of comparisons to it (you might want to check the link for my review). this one’s on a grid with a bit more to it than plonking down random buildings where they give you the most points. sadly, neither lets you re-visit previous islands without copying files over, and this only keeps the one currently in progress, not all your previous attempts like islanders. I was hoping they wouldn’t copy this aspect as well…
