Pendragon

Pendragon

_### Quick Overview

Imagine a game of chess where each of your pieces has its own little story and agenda. Each piece would also like to see its story to the end, but you, as the player, know that will not always be possible. Sacrifices have to be made. And stories will change and adapt because of them. Some will be cut short, some will be epic, but most of them will have to face tragedy sooner or later.

For those needing comparisons, think more Into the Breach than Banner Saga._

Pendragon has captured my attention in a way that very few games manage.

I describe this game as a chess-like narrative roguelike.

The roguelike aspect is straightforward, with each run following the same general structure : choose a hero and make your way to Camlann to aid King Arthur in the fight against the evil Mordred, dispatching enemies and recruiting allies along the way.

Mechanically, it is not a game of chess, but it is a very good analogy to get oneself into the mindset required to play Pendragon effectively - in order to be successful at the higher difficulties, one must be thoughtful in the moves they pick, their potential consequences, and how the enemies may react to them.

Death and Taxes

Death and Taxes

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#509 out of 700+)… it’s time for Death and Taxes.

Maybe it’s the Terry Pratchett fan in me, but I am instantly attracted to any game where you play as Death–or a grim reaper–and doubly so if an otherworldly bureaucracy is also in the mix. Unfortunately this game never really fully embraces its premise–you may play as a grim reaper, but one very clearly written from a human perspective. The ultimate goal of the game is to save humanity from extinction: the narrative frames this as an inherently positive goal, because this is what the (expectedly human) players are likely to think. This is, to me, an enormous missed opportunity. Instead of taking this for granted, how much more interesting would the story be if the player character had the opportunity to learn about humanity and then decide for themselves whether or not they should attempt to divert fate?

Let’s talk about Death… and Taxes!

This game is as remarkable as it is breathtaking. The visuals are a blend of muted charcoals, discarded ash and vivid pastels. It grants a sense of life crushing through a somber reality, lends itself to the joy just under the surface of the macabre concept of being a 9-eternity desk worker in the office of annihilation.

The beginning opens with an animated comic, gray, yellow, red. The tone is whimsical and aggravated, the agitation of your future employer evident from the outset. Lemon, spice and everything ni- human eyes. A slightly different recipe from the Power Puff girls was used to create you! A Grim meant to choose who lives and who dies. You take an elevator, you enjoy an in-office bed chamber, there’s a basement with a deranged merchant of questionable origin and that’s life.

My play through with 3 endings (1 good 2 bad)

Review

Game definitely carries on the spirit of left on read I’m pretty sure some achievements don’t work especially the frack for a 1,000 feet which was to be expected since secure the bag in left on read still doesn’t seem to have been achieved after 60 pages of people devotedly trying to crack it. The story is a good environmental friendly one and it plays pretty well, I liked the different endings even though one of them had absolutely no dialogue the “destroy the earth” ending since I didn’t get an achievement for it that’s what I’ll call it. Definitely fun play I will warn you though the creator does like to waste your time and make you feel the pain i.e. realism mode in left on read and your character walking for miles the farther you get in the game for the good ending to get to your dig site with no speed up atm so heads up on that.

mixed feelings about this.

The non-skippable part where you walk long distances for to dig for oil is boring but it shows you the damage you have done.

The moles are quite nice to follow you while you destroy their homes and killing rats is nice too.

But the part where you dig for oil is difficult and the instructions are not really clear. It doesnt tell the players that they can dig whatever they can until they have left 2 bars on the time so that they can go to the surface and wait for the oil to appear and make money from that instead

Henchman Story

Henchman Story

Have you ever wanted to work for a super villain well you can with this visual novel sign up today and you even get your own custom henchman uniform and locker and the perk of working for the greatest super villain the world has ever known. An amazing visual novel about being a henchman for a goofy super villain boss and interacting with other henchmen, superheroes and super villains. The story is pretty good the characters are all pretty interesting and remember able the voice acting also for this game is great. the writing also for this visual novel is pretty good there were times in this visual novel that I laughed and thought was interesting and then there were times where I was actually was interested in the fighting scenes of the visual novel and what would happen next in the scenes following up. Overall I have enjoyed playing this visual novel and getting the endings I have already gotten and I am going to continue getting all the endings that I can get for this visual novel.

I have never reviewed a game since I have my account on steam so this will be my first review but I cannot let this gem of a visual novel go unnoticed.

Its characters, its humor, its soundtrack and especially Stan, its protagonist, are so refreshing and funny that I can not find any complaints. If we talk about replayability I can’t make any criticism either, there are a lot of little things that change completely as the scenes unfold, and not to mention the various endings that there are, some will make you feel like the worst human being in history and the others as the happiest person of all.
