You know how some games make the beginning easier so you get that feeling of accomplishment before you’re stomped on?

That doesn’t happen here. :)

Comet Crasher

Comet Crasher

Is Comet Crasher the next big thing? Nah, but it’s pretty fun, quite addicting - and paying is optional. This is an arcade score chaser that does just enough right to keep me coming back for more. What I’d really like to happen is a sequel with better artwork and some tighter platforming controls. And maybe slight rebalancing that rewards just a tad more skill and strategy. But otherwise this is good stuff.

Cheers to indie games!

“Comet Crasher”, a “free99” or freeware game (meaning, it cost you absolutely nothing, but the illusion of time spent playing the game), is a gem worth giving a crack or two, maybe even three. The game is very simply, very basic/raw graphics with ordinary particle effects. The graphics and effects are nothing to write home about. Though, the game play with tempo basic music (that is decent/solid for a free game that costs you nothing, but storage space & time), and the expecting the unexpected. Do make for excellent receipt of a short-attention span game that can turn addictive for 10+ minutes in a given day. Heck, over 150 games and I spent 2 solid hours playing this 80s style face-lift game that I give the dev a solid 3.8 / 5 stars!!

Super Jigsaw Puzzle: Generations

Super Jigsaw Puzzle: Generations

I’ve tried other jigsaw games here on Steam, and Super Jigsaw Puzzle Generations is hands down my favorite. If you’re a puzzle-lover, you won’t be disappointed. I like the selection of free puzzles and how you can get every achievement on just the free, but I’ve also purchased 3 dlc sets (at the time of this writing: Fruits, Kittens, and Sunsets) and looking to purchase more in the future. I like how I can select the number of pieces it takes to fully assemble each and every puzzle (60, 200, 400, or 800), which allows me to play according to however I feel at the time. The UI is nice and clean, and recently a number of really good quality of life features have been added, one of which completely negates the one thing I might have complained about… I.e. you can opt to one-click drag a piece instead of click-holding to drag a piece – at one point I was playing this game for such long periods that my carpal tunnel was beginning to act up, and it’s nice not having to worry that will ever be an issue. And… is it weird that I really love how the mouse cursor disappears when holding a piece? I get really annoyed in the other jigsaw games where the cursor obscures a piece that I’m trying to match to other pieces. Trust me, if you’re doing an 800-pc, you’ll like being able to examine every bit of it. In short, get this game. Purchase the DLC sets. Support the devs and your jigsaw habit.

I wish there were a “meh” review option. This is a functional jigsaw puzzle game. I have played worse. I have played better. The snapping of the pieces is fine, above average even as it allows you to change the distance to when it will snap. The ease of moving pieces is ok, really just exactly average. The side box/extra space is ok, if a bit small, and slightly cumbersome as you can’t see them all laid out at the same time.

There is a major flaw in the game imo. The rendering of the pieces happens before they are rotated and scattered, this causes two issues. You can see the shine on the sides of the pieces and know instantly which way the piece should be orientated. And it is basically useless to zoom in as the image just pixelates; it straight up just gets bigger, not clearer.

My play through with 3 endings (1 good 2 bad)

Review

Game definitely carries on the spirit of left on read I’m pretty sure some achievements don’t work especially the frack for a 1,000 feet which was to be expected since secure the bag in left on read still doesn’t seem to have been achieved after 60 pages of people devotedly trying to crack it. The story is a good environmental friendly one and it plays pretty well, I liked the different endings even though one of them had absolutely no dialogue the “destroy the earth” ending since I didn’t get an achievement for it that’s what I’ll call it. Definitely fun play I will warn you though the creator does like to waste your time and make you feel the pain i.e. realism mode in left on read and your character walking for miles the farther you get in the game for the good ending to get to your dig site with no speed up atm so heads up on that.

Real player with 2.7 hrs in game

mixed feelings about this.

The non-skippable part where you walk long distances for to dig for oil is boring but it shows you the damage you have done.

The moles are quite nice to follow you while you destroy their homes and killing rats is nice too.

But the part where you dig for oil is difficult and the instructions are not really clear. It doesnt tell the players that they can dig whatever they can until they have left 2 bars on the time so that they can go to the surface and wait for the oil to appear and make money from that instead

Super boring grinding. Towers seem unbalanced. There’s only one stage. There aren’t much tactics you can employ, because of small stage, and very few rounds you get to play in this demo. Maybe it would start to get fun when a chance of losing would be introduced. Being able to completely overhaul your defenses between each round is interesting, but since the enemies are random and come from a random direction, you can’t optimize for the next round in a meaningful way.

Real player with 2.9 hrs in game

Downloaded the demo, played it for 2 hours, just trying all different strategies beating the demo (20 waves) multiple times all while still unlocking additional towers and abilities. I finally did beat it with a passive bonus on every wave and then I also beat it with one tower only (three different towers).

After I finished with that, I headed straight over to the store page to click buy… sadly I realized it’s not even released yet. Needless to say, I’ll be buying the full version when it’s released.

Spectromancer

Spectromancer

This is not a TCG (trading card game) and that’s what makes it so great.

There is no card collection or deck building, each game you get a random selection of 12 basic cards out of the game’s pool of 48 basic cards and 4 special cards from the class of your choosing.

“So what if I get completely screwed over and only get bad cards?” - That doesn’t happen because a) the game is incredibly balanced, every card has its use and strength b) the selection isn’t totally random, the game makes sure that you have 2 healing cards every game and that it’s a fair mix of low and high cost cards ad that you always have board clear cards.

Real player with 309.3 hrs in game

Recommended ONLY for single-player mode’s interesting challenges. In multiplayer, those who buy the expansions and use the newer classes have massive advantages.

In SPECTROMANCER, you play as a magic caster that has access to 5 ‘elements’: Fire, Water, Air, Earth, and (whichever class you choose) and the play is similar to the combat between players in a trading card game like Magic The Gathering. Each of the two opposing characters take turns casting spells of different costs. You gain 1 point of energy in each element (plus your chosen class ‘element’ (such as Cleric, Mechanic, Illusion, etc), and you choose which spell to play or creature to summon. To me, the biggest draw to the game is that once the match starts and you see which spells you have, you can play the same spells over and over if you choose or save up for a more powerful spell.

My friend speedran the first level of this and I thought I’d check it out. The graphics were off putting at first but i assumed it was just a stylistic choice. Unfortunately they got worse as the game went on with the ice being a vile green. The movement feels too slippery and all the enemies had the same movement. Many of the platform sections felt like they were straight out of a troll game but without the novelty. Whenever you fall in a pit you free fall for about 15 seconds before you re spawn.

This game is actually pretty good!

I came upon it randomly, while searching for free games with a level editor, and lo, there it was. The big hangup is the graphics - clearly it’s programmer art. But if you can get past that, and play the game itself - it’s pretty fun!

Mystery Island - Hidden Object Games

Mystery Island - Hidden Object Games

for a i spy type game is kind of boring and way too much text for a story line that is well boring and not worth reading. The waiting hours to get enough energy to do the next level is well stupid because this is a time based game to get achievement while making you wait way too long to do a short level. Other problems include so you have an item that you know you need for level but because it has not appeared on your list yet you have to go all the way around the level finding enough items just so you can go back to click on that object you had your mouse right next to making you waste over a minute just to find 7 other items just to go back yea that makes things stupid. The graphics are sorry but they are quite bad for being large pictures and could have been better or at least made them actually look like cartoons if you are going to attempt to make things look real then use realistic colors.

Real player with 20.0 hrs in game

Hum… The pastime. The game is a pure HO one. The graphics are OK, nothing special. The music seems to be a track in a loop or feels like it.

No bugs or crashes. Runs fine on Win 7.

Yeah, it used to be for free before, but the modest price is not bad for the content. The game is very casual. You can finish it in one sit. It ends on a “cliffhanger” and the promise that it will continue. Let’s wait and see. Nevertheless, the game, the story, is complete. There’re not many games out there that are completely Hidden Object, so if that’s what you like, it can provide some light entertainment. Just don’t expect wonders and the experience might be just fine.
