Euro Truck Simulator 2

Euro Truck Simulator 2

I did a review before, Back then i had 18 Hours playtime. Now i gained a lot more hours on it :D

Back then my Review was not very detailed and since then Euro Truck Simulator 2 got updated constantly and has much more to offer by now, i decided to redo my review. So let’s begin shall we? :3

(For those who don’t want to read a book and expect a review in form of an IGN Joke - 10/10 would relax again)

The General Idea of the Game/Whats it about

The easiest answer would obviously be “Driving Trucks” B-But wait! That’s not all there is to know silly. This game is in all reality a “Relax and listen to a Podcast/Music while you drive Simulator”. This game is about you, your truck and an open Europe to travel across. How you do it, what trucks you will drive, what cargo you will haul or the places you will see is all up to you.

What is Euro Truck Simulator 2?

Well, basically you drive a truck and deliver trailers to your destinations across Europe. This game is from the people of SCS who made other Truck Simulator games, as referring to 18 Wheels Of Steel Series and Euro Truck Simulator

Seems boring to play if you do the same thing over and over.

It sure seems like it does, I honestly thought when I first saw this game it seemed boring when I saw this. I gave the first Euro Truck Simulator a try and loved it. This game soul purpose is meant for people who want to kill the time that’s worth it and love driving.

American Truck Simulator

American Truck Simulator

American Truck Simulator is another production from the great SCS Software studio. Considering how they care for their players in Euro Truck Simulator 2, it couldn’t be otherwise! The creators once again prove that the games they create are complete products and the support does not end when the game / add-on is paid for, but all the time! Soon there should be an update of the state of California, the original state that appeared with the game’s premiere over 5 years ago and is still being improved and adapted to current standards both visually and technically.

American Truck Simulator (ATS) is the new title of the simulation created by SCS Software, which makes us live an adventure with our truck all around breath-taking landscapes and well-known places in USA. While you are travelling you will see the most famous architecture, for example The Golden Gate in San Francisco or the famous casino or hotel in Las Vegas. ATS is expanding more and more and this shows how SCS Software cares about making its product dynamic. We will play the part of a truck driver and we will travel on roads and highways with different sceneries in the background, such as desert, little populated areas or very busy metropolis. The unpublished system of event available for everybody and everywhere, thanks to the various upgrade, makes our adventure more interesting. It randomly creates accidents, parked cars and construction by the roadside or in the highway, reducing available lanes and blocking in cars, including out truck. Be careful when you are travelling because the police are always around the corner! Moreover, the fine collection system has become stricter than it was in the past, both because of the increase of the amount of money you have to pay if you exceed speed limitations, if you go right through red lights or if you cause accidents, and above all because patrol cars, which could normally drive through traffic or be hidden behind buildings or billboards, can give you a ticket at any stage; this makes the player pay attention to speed limitations, which vary according to each state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8QocRQKJMk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NfkIrItLtI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCJkbGj7des ATS natively supports mods and communities, considering that the game engine is the same as Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS 2) and this has made many changes be able to replace the lack of official trucks and has made the game more realistic and longer-living. In ATS you will also find a managerial section in which you can purchase your truck (getting into debts with a bank, if it is necessary), customizing it according to your tastes and you can also choose among a list of several interesting jobs dedicated to those who have decided to freelance. You can also hire drivers, purchase other trucks and create a big machine which can make you earn a lot of money. At this stage you could also purchase warehouses and expand your business in other cities. Moreover, your driver can increase his level and get experience scores which you could use in different sectors, such as fragile or luxury goods, trafficking length, special transports (e.g. explosive) and rush deliveries. This happens above all when you meet longer trailers than they were before, so that also a veteran of this saga needs some time to get used to the driving of these new means and to park them. Actually, it is possible to choose the difficulty of this latter: normal or expert. In the normal version the maneuvers which are necessary are on the same level of ETS 2, in the expert version it becomes more and more difficult because you are required to park your trailer in little areas and overcome obstacles. ATS is a title in which developers have focused more on quality than on quantity of contents. For those who have experienced ETS 2 this could be a negative point, however the realism takes advantage of it and shows places and situations which are always different. I suggest that both those who experienced its predecessor and those who are neophytes buy this game. I highly recommend this game! Great “NEW CORE BUILD” Graphical detail improvement, Functionality and more accurate scenarios. Per-say all scenarios originally from the TS 2020(TS) with overall major again improvement. Recommended and if the whole of TS core could be improved the same way would make TS 2020 Better! Maybe a Foundation for TS 2021. This though as a stand alone is a must have 10/10.

Train Sim World® 2

Train Sim World® 2

This game a fantastic simulator with obviously it’s drawbacks as with all games.

The aspects of the game that I enjoy are the ability to operate trains, being able to change services and gain experience.

Pros:

1. 24 hour timetable meaning that there are always services to operate no matter what time of the day

2. Performance improvements from the previous game

3. Decent tutorials to get you started (Useful for the more complicated locomotives).

4. After finishing a service there’s usually plenty of more services to operate which makes sustains the enjoyment for longer

This simulation is brilliant. I bought both TS2022 and TSW2 to compare, and find myself spending all my time in TSW2. Why? In TS2022 you ARE the train; in TSW2 you’re an Engineer driving a train - so you can walk around on the train, move to different locos on foot, and explore the world. The graphics are great, sounds very good, and this game is challenging.

While an in-game tutorial is included (I recommend you play through all of it, in sequence), you will need to check out various manuals on the Dovetail forum and elsewhere for tips/tricks. You WILL get stuck - maybe on a steep gradient. And you’ll probably lose control of a train going downhill. And, at times, a loco will simply stall, and you’ll lose power and need to go manually restart a loco.

Diesel Railcar Simulator

Diesel Railcar Simulator

Update: Now, after my 34ish hours in game, I am even more confident to say that this may well be the best train sim on the market. I don’t know if I could even go back to TSW after playing this. This is a true simulator that has all the right priorities in the right places and I hope that the game will continue to grow for a very long time.

This game is truly a hidden gem, much like Derail Valley. In the 8 hours I’ve spent with the game since purchasing it yesterday, I’ve realized just how much better it is then big name train sims like TSW and TS2020 etc. And it is still in early access unlike the big names. 8 hours is all it took to realize how much better it is compared to my probably 300 some odd hours in TSW. Much of the satisfaction likely comes from the fact that the trains here need constant attention and adjustment. Where as in something like TSW you just throttle up and acknowledge the alerter every 60 or 90 seconds. (If you even play with the alerter or other safety systems active. If you don’t then TSW is literally throttle up to win). This game also comes with a massive amount of content, (3 different maps and loads of different timetables and jobs) and you gain access to all of this simply by paying the base price of the game. No paid DLC or micro transactions here. There is a bit of a learning curve, since as far as I can tell there is either easy mode or advanced mode with no in between. And easy mode is quite easy. Up arrow makes the train go forward, and down arrow applies the brakes. All of the things that go into making these movements are completely automated. Advanced mode is the opposite. You will need to manage all of the train controls on your own with no assistance. I’d recommend only a few routes on easy mode before stepping up to the plate and taking complete control over your train since this is where the real satisfaction is. And the game has an excellent tutorial system for holding your hand for the first few hours, reminding you what to do next. Soon you will know what needs to be done and can disable the tutorial system and drive alone. The physics are quite fun as well. And these are real physics. As far as I know and have seen the train itself is really bobbing and swaying as you go down the line, rather then artificial sway through camera effects. Overall it’s been an excellent game thus far. I do have one thing that I do not like, however it is quite minor. In game the tutorial system is actually made up of multiple toggle boxes, which is great. You can use the assists that you want and turn off the assists that you don’t. The more assists that you use, the more of a overall score deduction you take. This is all fine, except for the speed. I feel that the speed indicator on the screen should be a freebie with no point deduction. I played with it off once and the speedometer in the train is a little hard for me to read due to its size. But at the end of the day points are just for your own bragging rights to yourself and really seem to only be implemented so you can challenge yourself to get a better score on the same run. So by no means is it a big deal.

I’m reviewing the early access version. Even though some planned features are not yet implemented already this looks and works as fully finished product.

This game simulates diesel train operations in England around 60-ties, so one may expect left side driving with classic semaphores. I don’t really know English rail but it seems that everything is modeled as it should be. We have markings for speed limits, yellow distant signals and red semaphores. Junctions work as intended so the signal shows which branch we are going to take. Therefore the game is realistic, allowing for true hudless driving (as long as we know the route - where are the stations and speed limits). This is amazing. Physics is good, the brakes are modeled very nicely - for example longer train will cause the brake to respond with a lag. Sounds are nice. These old diesel trains have mechanical gearbox, so driving is a little more challenging than with modern train - we need to switch gears like in a car. At this point my feeling is that the gearbox is not yet fully modeled as it should be - we can make mistakes, like stopping with high gear or switching gears with power on and nothing wrong happens. Hopefully this will be corrected with full game release. AI drivers are not scripted, they try to react to what they actually see. It’s really a good simulator for a hardcore simmer like me.

I highly recommend this game because its not a game, it is an educational simulation, this game can teach you not everything, but.. but… a very large amount real life things on how an engine works, specifically the Mazda mx5 Miata engine, the parts in this game, like the engine, the oil brands+ other fluids, and engine kits, are for the most part are all real parts and real brands, this game I would especially would recommend this game to students who are in/or want to be in autos class. again, it wont teach you everything but I personally say it is close enough, closer than any other thing out there, I have experience in autos class and I have worked on the same engine that is in this game, and it is pretty spot on. and due to COVID-19, I think this would give a lot of students mainly speeking for high schoolers, giving them a chance to still have a way to have some hand on experience for those who cant go to school because of COVID-19. and I say “hands on” because it also can work with VR as well as without VR. VR is not required, but if you got a pair, give it a wack. lastly I want to end this review with a simple request to the developers. before the first major update, the was a feature that has now been remove, and I would strongly suggest that is was brought back. the feature was all the torquing instructions that shows a picture diagram with torquing information on each part that you are assembling. that was a very important part of the game that made it educational. if you could please bring that back to the game, like maybe make another item to add to the game like a torquing spec book, something that I can place next to the radio and open and flip pages to each section that I am working on, I would like to turn the page to find each diagram for whatever I am trying to put together. and thank you for taking the time to read this far down, there is much more in this game that I could not include every detail, this game can teach you not only engines, but keeping your shop clean and organized, and again much more. thank you and stay safe,

Bought this just over a year ago when it went into early access. After hitting just over 100 hours and with no sign of losing interest I thought I’d post this review. Full disclosure - I play this in desktop mode, not VR so can’t comment on the VR experience.

I’m not a mechanic IRL but I am interested in cars and learning about how things work. This is by far the best mechanic “simulator” that I’ve ever found.

At time of writing the progression is straightforward. You’re given a few jobs to choose from (change engine oil, replace spark plugs) for customers and if you complete the job successfully you get some cash and XP…the usual unlock through progression idea. Some jobs can take hours (rebuild the bottom half of the engine) where you have to drain oil and coolant, remove the transmission, extract the engine using the crane, put it on the engine stand…you get the idea. It’s very involved but because of that incredibly rewarding.
