Big fan of Kim Laughton’s stuff and Mechatok, I can not stop thinking about this world. Its nice to walk inside Kim’s work and experience the details and style up close. You’ll quickly fall in love with Mechatok’s music as it connects you to this world. Look forward to more from all involved.

This one got lost somewhere along the way

Passenger seat tries to do too many things at the same time. The luck-based process of tracking down map pieces degrades the experience of people who like difficult puzzles like this one. The repeated attempts to emphasize the spooky graveyards degrades the intended relaxing tone of the game.

There are two games here: A basically non-interactive relaxing mood piece about chilling in the passenger seat, and a significantly difficult map-based puzzle where you’re having to switch between looking at the map and tracking landmarks and turns. These two games clash with each other, and by the time I beat the game, I wasn’t fond of either of them.

This game isn’t terrible for what it is. It’s just not worth $3. It took me 8 minutes to complete while also messing around a little.

Refunct

Refunct

6 hours of playtime out of a fifteen minute game (without speedrunning) , which is still going by the day.

This game has an fantastic momentum based movement system that makes getting around the map fun, almost so much so that it rivals Mirrors Edge and Titanfall 2 for how thrilling it is to control.

Just get it, it is so much fun just to chain together wall jump combos, slide out of every jump, and create your own path through everything. When you add the amazing atmosphere, music, day/night cycle, achievements, and stunning lighting and visuals then you get what is the main purpose of playing this game. But it doesn’t end there…

Intro

Refunct is a very refreshing and fluid experience. For such a short game, it was satisfying to play and was definitely worth the 1.50$ spent. It feels like thought and effort went into making it, and that immediately sets it apart the bad apples that comes through Greenlight.

–————————————————————

Presentation

Refunct is a 3D parcour platformer at the same time it has a relaxing, peaceful atmosphere.

Refunct immediately puts you into the game when you start it up. But that’s okay because the game doesn’t need to annoy you with any tutorial, the mechanics are easy to learn on your own.

Hook

Hook

Introduction

Hook is a calm and short puzzle game that was developed by Maciej Targoni , Wojciech Wasiak and published by Rainbow Train. With it’s simplistic art style, and easy to grip mechanics, Hook really is such a insightful puzzle game that most other puzzle games seem to miss.

Gameplay

Hook is one of them insightful and peaceful puzzle games that is relaxing to play and doesn’t frustrate you throughout. This is what a puzzle game is meant to be like, the game itself challenges you in the way of cause and effect which brings you a different level of challenge as you play through the levels. Through the levels you play, you will need to prepare for the unexpected movement that may occur that you hadn’t thought about or planned on that one thing moving. There are 50 levels in total, taking about an hour to and an hour and a half complete them all, I myself felt satisfied within completing each of the puzzles as I progressed through the game. The game does get more complex as you progress, as to be expected in almost every game, but it’s difficulty curve is rather slow and steady.

Real player with 4.7 hrs in game

Hook is a very, very relaxing puzzle game. Minimalist in its design, with only a white background and black lines and buttons for presentation, you’re thrown straight into the puzzle without so much as a tutorial. And that’s okay, you don’t really need a tutorial. Every time a new item is added to the puzzles, you’re given a very simple version to solve that teaches you what the new symbols do. The basic idea is that you will remove the items in order, taking care none will hook or get stuck with another.

Sakuya Izayoi Gives You Advice And Dabs

Sakuya Izayoi Gives You Advice And Dabs

Now one may be wondering how I could be reviewing this after 1175 hours of playtime. I realize this is simply not enough to fully appreciate this masterpiece, but at the very least it is now my most played game on steam. This is the least one can do to truly have delved deep enough into this game, to experience all it has to offer, to savor every last drop of this ambrosia. To say it was soul-changing is an insult, and is woefully inadequate in describing the magnificence of what can no longer be described as a mere game. My act of even attempting to use such inaccurate and insufficient terms to convey this unparalleled brilliance is wholly unacceptable and utterly blasphemous. This is easily humanity’s magnum opus.

This game has undoubtedly changed my life for the better.

A few months ago I was struck by the loss of my grandma whom I loved very much. She used take me down to the park near where I lived and watch me play. We always used to get ice cream right after too, our favorite flavor was sweet strawberry. As someone who has dealt with loss in the past I would assume this would be something I could get over easily. I was proved wrong

My mental and physical health was slowly deteriorating as I was mourning the loss of my grandma, my family tried to help me but their efforts where deemed futile. I was lost, no where to run to, nowhere to speak out, so out of desperation, I looked to the one person I could trust. The one that would always be there for me. The one who believes in me…

Athena, the rabbit - Jigsaw Puzzle

Athena, the rabbit - Jigsaw Puzzle

Such a cute, short game with an adorable bunny at the center. Picked it up for a whole 50 cents, but would have paid the $1.99 if I had to. Relaxing fun for anyone. That 576 pieces achievement can be done with any puzzle. Looking back on it, I would have chosen one that had more distinctive color changes. It is rather hard with one that has a lot of sameness throughout. But you do get to chose.

Very cute game and cute rabbit! I was so involved in the riveting story shown via Instagram photos.

Unfortunately not any time keeping mechanics that would be helpful for a speedrun of this game. There was also no way to turn off the photo of the puzzle in the background because it kind of makes me feel like I’m cheating. Still, I wish/hope for an update or a sequel to Athena’s life.

Personally I muted the music for this game (it’s not atrocious, but there is no volume slider, and I just felt listening to Dedo on Dedo by Simply on repeat for hours was more fitting)

Dab on Darkness!

Dab on Darkness!

Having now topped in playtime over the previous title, Sakuya Izayoi Gives You Advice and Dabs, one may question how could the developer possibly improve upon their work which could already be considered humanity’s magnum opus. I wondered that myself prior to partaking, and so I had to begin my journey of a thousand hours. And truly, with this title we have added depth of plot, auditory masterpiece, and achievements for a sense of reward even beyond the already vast landscape that is Dab on Darkness. At every step we are offered more than anything before and honestly even though I expected perfection, what was accomplished here goes even further beyond. Perhaps one needed at least this amount of time to truly experience their previous work, but even now with this amount of playtime for this, what could be classified as beyond even a divine testament, is quite possibly not enough to explore the complex myriad of concepts and ideas being put forth here. This can’t be considered a work of mere humanity. It goes beyond our realm of existence entirely, dwarfing even whatever gods may exist. A gift to us mortals to be sure, however I fear that even expressing my utmost appreciation of this enigma would be a fundamentally egregious act of complete and utter disrespect as using humanity’s slipshod excuse of a form of communication could never hope to express even an infinitesimally small fraction of this glory. I am humbled to think what awaits us in the future from this developer.

First of all I would like to say that this review is entirely genuine, and isn’t one of those dumb “ironic” reviews that you see on games like this.

Okay, now that that’s out of the way…

This Visual Novel is great, and the people who made this are really good at this.

I don’t review very many things, so I don’t have the same way with words that some people have, but I just knew I had to review this.

Thank you guys for making this game.

I will be purchasing all games made by this developer as soon as they are released from here on out.
