Although very simple, the game’s proposal is very solid “Distribute the weights in the remaining blocks”. It was a longer game play than I expected, but it was a plus for me as the game has a window mode so I just played casually while doing other things.

Cute, relaxing, not too hard. It took me a little under 5 hours to finish the 50 puzzles.

Young players might enjoy this, though they may need help learning how to move a tile where they want it to go. It’s a bit like Rubik’s Cube but nowhere as difficult!

I liked it, it’s a way of living in a farm environment, in addition to these cute animals, the puzzle sometimes gets a little complicated, but I’m getting used to the game and so it gives pleasure to complete the challenge.

so! this game is one dollar. this is a truly unfair price - i think it could go fine at eight, to be honest. but what exactly is it?

with the grid and tick system and variety of parts, you might initially think it’s a zachlike, but it isn’t quite. there are 13 levels, and they don’t build off of each other or progress smoothly - they showcase entirely different conundrums. I’ve only beaten the easiest few, but i’ve had to carefully map out a maze of hands, do speed changes on two perpendicular lines of eyes to avoid collision, and stall out eyes in a box until the level ends automatically. every level is a completely separate puzzle, and they’re all very fun! it’s like a game made of only special challenge levels

LYNE can best be described as a minimalist puzzle game.

Essentially it is a series of logic puzzles generated on a grid, consisting of coloured nodes and permeable gears. Each puzzle must be solved on the fly by connecting paths from one primary node to another through the same coloured nodes and transitional gears. The goal is to ensure that all nodes and all the slots on each gear are used in the eventual solution.

There are twenty-five individual puzzles grouped into twenty-six sets, which grow in depth and complexity the greater the progress made. As you can imagine the puzzles start off deliberately simple allowing players to grasp the basic elements of gameplay. Later puzzles require an ever increasing amount of convoluted paths to be drawn in order to use all the available nodes and gear slots. In addition the game also generates a set of daily time-limited puzzles which vary in complexity and must be finished each day or they disappear until they are generated sometime in the future.

Short, not too difficult reflection game. Usually these mechanics are used with light rays that have to end up in a certain location; in this case it’s a stone that magically keeps bouncing over water. Difficulty is not very consistent, some puzzles will take some pondering and tweaking and retrying, others will be clear at the first glance.

I very much liked the visuals and the sound effects, and found myself looking for longer routes to listen to the new ‘melodies’. The soundtrack was definitely not for me, and I had to turn it off every single time I started the game. It also did not remember my preference to play windowed and bounced back to full screen every restart. My last little peeve was that you can’t return to the menu or home screen between levels - you have to start or redo a level to get back the menu.

Casual puzzles with a peaceful ambience. Most solutions amount to lining up the most intuitive positions, with a few requiring some more tries. While quite easy, it is fun and rewarding. There are also hidden objects to find which give a bit of story. My only issues: no touchscreen support, so it’s a lot of touchpad/mouse clicking. Also the backgrounds move when you move your cursor,even when you are just moving from the reflectors to the start button on every level, which I found a little annoying. It would be nice to be able to turn this off and have the screen only move when you actually move the cursor to an edge.

A ghost, while listening to his favorite song in purgatory, decides to invent a new game to pass the time. A fan of bowling and golf, he decides to combine the two with wheels and portal technology to pass an eternity. He plays 80 levels alone while the haunting, static-y tune plays out forever.

The Good:

  • When I first started the game, I feared it wouldn’t be very challenging; however, the game boards and gimmicks actually kept it from being too easy.

  • The gimmicks: rotating arrows, static arrows, fixed blocks, portals, and sliding blocks.

  • Just like the first game, it actually offers a decent amount of challenge.

I love sliding games and active neurons is among my favorites with its excellent presentation, cool mechanics and relaxing gameplay, even if it’s on the short and easy side and has some timing elements. the sequel looked similar enough and I was really looking forward to it, didn’t even consider the possibility of it ending up as a disappointment, but sadly that’s what happened.

aurora hex is similar to the developer’s previous game, aurorabound deluxe . you’re trying to recreate colorful patterns in both, but in this game you’re bothering hexagons instead of squares. it is also somewhat similar to loop .

Almost same genre as jigsaw puzzles, but feels different.

UI & Visuals seem a bit more refined than the first title, while retaining a similar feel to play. :)

An enjoyable puzzle game, Patterna kept my attention for dozens and dozens of hours. You need to determine which cells are or are not marked as part of ‘the pattern’ based on given distribution/adjacency information, somewhat akin to Minesweeper or Hexcells. Like the latter of those, all puzzles are set up in a way that you never strictly need to make a random guess.

The thing that’s really singular about Patterna in my view is the robustness of the random level generator. I was able to find settings that generated interesting random puzzles more often than not. The only issue is that sometimes the chain of reasoning was difficult enough that I needed to break out pen and paper and brute force the next move, which generally felt more like bookkeeping than entertainment. On the whole, though, the game did a good job of hitting a reasonable middle ground of difficulty.

In short: Patterna is a challenging hard-logic puzzle game with a steep learning curve. The mechanics are varied and the replayability infinite, but it is very rough around the edges with poor and sometimes frustrating implementation. If you have a low tolerance for bad UI, stay away. If you can stomach that and are a seasoned veteran of logic games, Patterna is well worth buying at full price.

In long: The developer himself compares Patterna’s mechanics to Hexcells, and one can immediately see the inspiration. But Patterna is far from a knock-off, does its own thing and expands gameplay well beyond the scope of Hexcells. Nodes may be revealed or not, may be part of a pattern or not, may carry information about nodes around them up to a distance of 3, may describe the length of the chain they are part of, may have up to 4 colors, may be unlinked, linked or directionally linked, etc. The complexity is smart and truly awe-inspiring, but comes at a cost:

This game is so good it has spoiled me for the other nonogram games which are on Steam. I had somehow never seen nonogram puzzles before and started here with Kenney’s creation. Now I judge all of the other nonogram games I try based on this one.

My playtime is a little inflated because I left the game running a few times so I could finish a puzzle after doing something else, but the game is still well worth the tiny price tag.

The Good

  • This is a very solid implementation of nonogram puzzles.

Yay finally more nonogram games on Steam!

Pixross has a lot of options to tailor to your play style, and a good variety of puzzles! There is even a random generator for 5x5, 10x10 or 20x20 puzzles introduced in the most recent update, which is great for people like me who appreciate nonograms for the process of figuring them out rather than the aesthetic payoff at the end result. So while other nonogram games tend to run out of content for me very quickly, I think I’ll be playing this one for a long time!
