Telling Lies

Telling Lies

It pains me to write a negative review for this game. I loved Her Story for it’s story and Viva Seifert’s incredible performance, even though the game play (you are a cop working with the world’s worst video archiving software) was maddening.

Telling Lies has much of the same strengths and weaknesses. The cast is terrific and the writing gives them a lot of meaty, emotional moments to work with. The plot is diverting, with multiple characters and scenarios popping up that you’ll want to spend time disentangling everything.

Telling the truth about Telling lies

I have a problem and I’m not alone. The whole game industry has the same problem: how to tell stories with games? A good story has its own laws. Ask any writer other than your 8-year-old little sister. The story has a build, thought out ups and downs, twists and turns, beginnings and endings. The game follows different rules. The player has to be an active doer, not just a listener, reader or a watcher. The players’ choices and actions will have to have an impact on the game, otherwise the experience is flat. Unfortunately these two collide. Where a good story demands a pre-defined route to work, a good game wants freedom and choices. It’s like marrying a feminist to a chauvinist. It simply does not work or at least has not worked so far and it’s not from the lack of trying. Sam Barlow’s Telling lies is another effort to marry the unwanting partners.

I got this as soon as it was launched. I found it to be a decent horror game for the money. A must for a horror game collector, The only down side for me was it could have been a longer game to play. I finished it in over an hour as I was exploring and taking in the graphic sites etc. You could possibly complete this within 30 mins. I give the game 8/10

This is the first time I’ve left a review but felt compelled to leave one due to my utter disappointment with this game.

Now for the price paid I was under no illusions I was going to get an AAA title but for what you do get in this game or what is more like a demo is next to nothing.

Yeah there are a few jump scares in there which are pretty well done but other than that what you get is the following:

2 “Puzzles” to solve which are simple combinations that took 30 seconds to crack and coming from soneone who has the observational skills of a blind sloth.

Advantages:

1. It’s INSANELY SCARY! And the scares are not limited to jumpscares over and over again - the atmosphere gets under your skin. The sound design is soo good - makes you very alerted for the whole duration of the game. I don’t know how the dev does that but they have a way of getting into your head. If you’ve experienced Suite 776 then you know what I’m talking about and this game will NOT disappoint you!

What a terrifying experience this was!

Inside Depth 6 has incredible ambience, superb sound design and a really unique and refreshing approach for the setting which makes for a truly horrifying and scary game.

Everything felt well crafted, there were no cheap jump scares, just dreadful sorrow and fear from the unknown as you trascend deeper and deeper into the mine. You can feel the uneasiness with each elevator ride that takes you further into the mine, and this is something that was not very often tackled by horror games and it felt really refreshing for a change. The setting really got to me.

Family Is Nothing

Family Is Nothing

You don’t know where you are or why, but it feels like it could be home. This woman; you know her, don’t you? But wait, who are you? Everything feels so familiar, but none of it makes sense. And still, there’s something wrong here, like a low hum of warning, droning beneath the eerie silence of this place. Maybe you should leave.

Sometime in the late 1970’s a small, isolated town is plagued by a masked lunatic. You find yourself at the door of a vast home nestled in the mountainous outskirts of the lonely forest surrounding the town. Experiencing a bizarre lapse in understanding, you are left to your own wits to find an answer to a question you don’t even know to ask. Meanwhile, you are being hunted, and perhaps a narrow escape is as good an answer as you are going to find.

  • Immersive first-person exploration

  • No HUD

  • “Implied” inventory that manages itself without needing to sift through clunky menus (simply interact with things of note)

  • Claustrophobic hallways and tight corners

  • Panic room with sealable door for guaranteed safety

  • All original assets and soundtrack, including 4 tracks produced in the style of classic 70’s rock

NETWORK

When you surf the internet, you never know what you might stumble upon…

This game reveals a problem related to the Internet. Now the global network has turned into a dump, in which there is a lot of everything, and you never know what file you can stumble upon. So-called “deadly” files are no exception. Now, with almost complete freedom of action in the network, this has become especially important.

The plot of the game will take us to various locations, such as: the apartment of the main character, a construction site, friends ' apartments, a stairwell.. Where we will face various tasks: find certain items, solve plot twists, or just get out and survive..

We also spend a certain part of the game on the computer of the main character, communicating with our friends on the network, looking for answers to questions. The storyline depends on your decisions, what do you write to this or that person? What tactics do you prefer - to respond calmly or more directly and rudely? Find the information yourself in the game browser or go through a mini-game? The player’s choice affects both the course of events and the further plot.

Plot:

We play for an ordinary guy 17-18 years old. The main character has just moved with his family to a new apartment, which is still under renovation and not even all the furniture has been delivered, plus constant power outages. The hero comes home from school, immediately sits down at the computer, goes online, sees a new message, clicks on it and STARTS….. It all depends on you…..

Tired of the same type of horror?

The game includes a variety of gameplay, in different locations.. The game will not let you get bored, and will allow you to spend a couple of evenings in suspense, with a full immersion in the atmosphere of fear, “deadly” files, correspondence with friends, Internet legends and hopelessness…

Features of the game:

    • Unique concept;
    • Diverse gameplay;
    • Interesting plot;
    • Various locations;
    • An atmosphere of fear and tension.

THIS WAS SO GOOD! The feeling I had with my mates on the ol’ dabloon sailor ship when we killed that wench was poggers

Real player with 1.4 hrs in game

This was a pretty good game. Gave me a few scares and was only $2. Overall was fun and worth the money. The only downside I had was with the last maze. I am not sure if the encounters are random or not but there was essentially around 20 minutes or so of nothing happening and me just wandering around in the dark. I felt like that made the ending pretty lackluster. It would have been better if there were more effects or sounds of something chasing you or near you. Other than that it was a pretty good game.
