Ship Simulator Extremes

Ship Simulator Extremes

Can’t play the game for two reasons.

After intallation i must enter the serials for every single DLC, the problem is i can’t simply copy and paste the serials, and i can’t read what serial is needed. It can take up to 30 minutes, until i have entered all serials in the right order.

The 2nd reason is that the game is bugged like hell.

After this game was released it worked fine for me on an quit old computer at first. A short time later i also got a new pc and here the trouble began. For unknown reason all maps with ports are so buggy that the water is flickering with 80meter high waves, catapulting and bouncing my ship all over the map and after a few seconds the game crashes.

On paper this game looks very promising but as the saying goes ‘never judge a book by its cover’ … For starters the amount of hard drive memory the game uses up is enormous! Though Ship Simulator Extremes ran smoothly with no frame-rate issues the amount of memory used caused significant problems for me elsewhere on my PC. I also found the gameplay to be quite fractionated in terms of continuity mostly due to having to change terrains all the time in free roam (or Sandbox) mode.

There are only two terrains which allow realistic free roam experiences to the player. These are Bora Bora around which attention to detail is essential when selecting larger ships and the English Channel which allows Dover to Calais (and Isle of Wight) ferry crossings. So many of the others allow the player to navigate their way out of one of several huge real world ports … Before having to change terrains which can only be done manually involving the rather disruptive selection process. The appearance of many of the ships also tends to be quite ‘cartoony’ rather than photo-realistic especially when viewed internally from the Bridge. There are some good points which mostly relate to the phenominal level of detail featured within each terrain. Also the DLC Content available through Steam greatly enhances the game in a number of ways: Especially the Ferries pack which was my favourite DLC download. Ship Simulator Extremes also features a built-in Mission Editor facility but it is strongly advised to read up on how to use this before attempting to do so.

World Ship Simulator

This is an early access game and nowhere near finished. Fair enough. The devs are promising more ships, missions, career mode and possibly free roam.

However, the game needs some very fundamental changes to the core. The graphics are very amateurish and, in the case of the scenes at port where one is trying to choose a mission, the whole thing looks like something from the 1990’s. The NPC’s look like something a child would create, the colours are all wrong and are too vibrant. The port area is excrutiating to look at.

First of all, it has to be said, this game is already a massive improvement on it’s infamous predecesor….. that said, you can tell this is in early access stage, ok let’s start with the bad….

-The night sky- This has no depth. I honestly think my grandmother could do a better job using MS paint and she can’t even use a Nokia 3310!

  • Land bird noises out at sea- I know this may sound petty, but really, whenever I have been out at sea (7 ferry journeys this year) I have not seen a single land bird. I understand they migrate twice a year, however, definitely see a lot more Gulls than I see Robins this is for sure

Great Lakes Simulator

Great Lakes Simulator

Great Lakes Simulator… Drive 1:1 Scale Lake Freighters On The World Famous Great Lakes!

Live your dream of driving legendary lake freighters on The Great Lakes with this revolutionary new PC simulator that will take you to another level! Great Lakes Simulator puts you at the helm of a massive lake freighter underway on the Great Lakes. Head downbound from Lake Superior thru Whitefish Bay and the St. Mary’s River to Lake Huron and back in a 1:1 scale re-creation of the most famous fresh-water waterway in the world.. The Great Lakes.

Simulating a journey thru the Great Lakes allows you to gain an understanding of what to expect on the real journey. After a journey through Great Lakes Simulator you will be graced with the knowledge a seasoned mariner would need in order to approach such a journey with confidence. Great Lakes Simulator can accurately teach you the designated shipping lanes, dredged channels, anchorages and port locations, and the accurate locations of range lights, buoys, and lighthouses. You can set sail anytime you like.

A LITTLE HISTORY

The Great Lakes is a system of giant freshwater seas along the U.S. and Canada border connected by both natural and artificial channels and huge locks which enable navigation by large ships. The Soo Locks between Lake Huron and Lake Superior and dredged channels in the St. Mary’s River, the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River between Lake Huron and Lake Erie allow passage of huge lake freighters most years from late Spring through early Winter.

The Great Lakes are prone to sudden and severe storms, in particular in the autumn, from late October until early December. Thousands of ships have met their end on the lakes. The first ship to sail the Great Lakes, and the first ship to sink in the lakes, was Le Griffon. Caught in a 1679 storm while trading furs between Green Bay and Michilimacinac, she was lost with all hands aboard. The largest freighter ever wrecked on the lakes is the Edmund Fitzgerald, which sank near Whitefish Point in a violent storm on its last run of the 1975 season, taking all 29 aboard to the bottom of Lake Superior.

The greatest concentration of shipwrecks lies near Thunder Bay, Michigan, beneath Lake Huron, near the point where eastbound and westbound shipping lanes converge. The Lake Superior shipwreck coast from Grand Marais, Michigan to Whitefish Point is known as the “Graveyard of the Great Lakes.” More vessels have been lost in the Whitefish Point area than any other part of Lake Superior. The Whitefish Point Underwater Preserve serves as an underwater museum to protect the many shipwrecks in this area. In Great Lakes Simulator, you will travel through both of these dangerous zones.

THE JOURNEY

Pilot a massive lake freighter downbound from Duluth, Minnesota across Lake Superior, down into Whitefish Bay, and into the St. Mary’s River. Not far downriver you will pass through the Soo Locks which will lower your ship 22 feet to the level of Lake Huron. A few miles past the locks the river makes a sharp right turn into a narrow dredged channel comprised of a number of ranges marked by special range lights set out in pairs to keep a ship in the center of the channel. Each set of range lights has a name which you can toggle onto the display using the F6 key. At Ninemile Point Light, the upbound and downbound channels split and follow separate paths around Neebish Island coming back together just before Hay Point.

Along the way, the Oak Ridge Range Lights and the Rock Cut and Moon Island Leading Lights guide your ship through some of the tightest and narrowest parts of all of the Great Lakes. Soon the lake widens before taking you past the town of Detour, Michigan and into Lake Huron. As Lake Huron opens up in front of you, an empty horizon reappears and suddenly you are back in the middle of the open sea. Travel downbound thru Lake Huron past Presque Isle, Thunder Bay, and Harbor Beach before arriving in Port Huron, your destination for a downbound journey. The upbound journey from Port Huron to Duluth is just as intense.

Great Lakes Simulator was built to accurately simulate the distances and times involved in transiting the lakes. At over 750 miles end-to-end, one complete round-trip journey will take almost 100 hours to complete. All of the included journeys total well over 500 hours, and advanced users can add their own mods and create their own journeys for a fully-customized world and an infinite combination of possibilities!

THE LIGHTHOUSES

The highlight of any journey thru the Great Lakes is the spectacular light show put on by the seemingly endless array of lighthouses and red, white, green, and yellow range lights, buoys, beacons, and light towers. Marvel as you sail past some of the most legendary lighthouses of the lakes including Detour Reef, Whitefish Bay Light Station, Manitou Island, Gull Island, the New Presque Isle Light, Fort Gratiot Lighthouse, and the Thunder Bay Light. And depend on the range lights and buoys of the St. Mary’s River as they guide your ship through the narrow dredged channels.

Nautical charts and Digital Elevation Model data were utilized to accurately recreate this dream world to an unbelievable level. Accurate latitudes, longitudes, elevations, and distances make this one of the most prototypical 1:1 scale digital environments possible. Many have pondered life aboard a Great Lakes freighter - this is your chance to simulate the journeys you would take in real time and in full scale. Sixteen miles an hour has never felt so sweet.

A SPECTACULAR PC SIMULATOR

Take the long approach and spend some time in open sea as you look for land and lights. Choose your time of day. Transit the lakes at night using nothing but the lights. Accelerate time or immerse yourself in a real-time simulation of a days-long transit and dozens of hours at open sea. Journey thru blinding snow and intense thunderstorms. Drive a massive cargo ship to real destinations. Meet ships along the way and take care to avoid collisions. Watch for traffic and lighthouses or watch the sun rise and set over Lake Huron and Lake Superior. With buttery-smooth physics, rich vivid graphics, and ultra-realistic atmosphere and lighting, Great Lakes Simulator will set the standard for PC simulator games for years to come.

Fishing: North Atlantic - Enhanced Edition

Fishing: North Atlantic - Enhanced Edition

Ok so where do I start. The game title is fishing north Atlantic, well I’ll put it simple this does not show how we fish in eastern Canada what so ever. They basically took the equipment from Barents sea and put it here. we do not use that equipment it’s completely different. The lobster well the traps are wrong no one uses those anymore , no idea why they would put old fashioned traps and not the new style traps.

The crab fishing well let’s just say I guess they thought Alaska was part of the north Atlantic and made replicas of two deadliest catch boats the saga and northwestern. Like that’s a insult to me period. Iam a commercial fisherman from eastern Canada and that is no way near how crab is done around here period. I have no idea what they were thinking.

Edit: With the latest update the game looks brand new! Waves are now the best of any game I’ve played, and the storms and sunrise/sunsets are incredible.

The short and sweet: cool premise and setting, nice relaxing gameplay with a lot of glitches. The devs are really attentive, hard working, and passionate. One of my all time favorite games.

Huge thank you to the devs for this absolute gem!!!

This game is what I’ve been looking for, I found out about the deadliest catch PC game but it was only on disk and hard to find. For a long time I simply dreamed of a game like this. Fishing: Barents Sea came out, very mixed reviews in the beginning so I steered clear. This game launched, in an allbeit troublesome state.

Fishing: Barents Sea

Fishing: Barents Sea

Fishing: Barents Sea is destined to become a classic among those of us who have taken the plunge. This is what I refer to as a “Zen” game, akin to titles such as Euro Truck Simulator 2. I have 51 hours of play time as of this writing, and I have no doubt that I’ll be piling up far more hours very quickly.

This is a relaxing, but highly enjoyable title. When you have tired of fast paced games that require your undivided attention, this is a game that will keep you engaged, but also allow you to sit back in your chair and even converse with others as you play. But it is certainly not boring. There are a multitude of things to do, from various types of fishing, to upgrading your gear and boats, to simply taking a boat and heading out to sea to explore, which pays off in that you’ll discover new fishing and crabbing hot spots. And of course, you’ll need to name each of your boats, and decide what color you’d like to use in displaying the vessel’s name.

I’m loving this game so far, once I was able to buy my first boat the game changed for me. I felt so much excitment from getting a nice boat and switching from longline to using nets, also having a crew member on board to help out. You can fast travel but I like to travel in real time, also when you fast travel you do not get the miles you need to buy a new boat (each boat requires you to have traveled a certain amount of Km before you can purchase, which I don’t really like but understand.).

Here are some of the features in this game: You can mess with some of the items in the cabin like the light switches, the phone to change your crew members job, the comms to call for rescue and the GPS/Sonar. Your crew members can perform certain jobs such as cooking, cleaning the fish, hauling in the line, repair as well as rest as they will get tired after a while. You need to perform certain mini game tasks for either bringing in the longline or the net as well as gutting the fish which I’m not really a fan of as they can be tedious. The seasons in the game change as well and when they do so do the fish you can catch. There are some bugs in the game but at least for me nothing game breaking.

Live your dream of traveling thru the Panama Canal! Pilot a ship from the Caribbean Sea to the Pacific Ocean and back. Take part in prototypical canal transits. A full 1:1 scale re-creation of the manmade waterway that changed the world, the Panama Canal.

A LITTLE HISTORY

Taking two countries over twenty-five years to build, the Panama Canal was the project they said couldn’t be built. They said man and machine lacked the ability to cut thru mountains and the Continental Divide. They could only be right for so long. Begun by the French under the leadership of Ferdinand de Lesseps after his completion of the Suez Canal, and completed by the United States, the Panama Canal opened for passage on August 3, 1914 and significantly cut travel time by sea between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and cut out the extremely hazardous journey around Cape Horn. Requiring the removal of 200,000,000 cubic yards of dirt, rock, and mud, and costing thousands of lives due to accidents and disease, the Panama Canal is one of mankind’s most important engineering accomplishments.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Start just outside the canal and follow the buoys and range lights into the canal, or take the long approach from 100 miles out and spend some time at sea as you look for land and lights. Choose your time of day. Transit the canal at night using nothing but the lights. Accelerate time or immerse yourself in a real-time simulation of an overnight canal transit and hours at open sea.

Drive legendary ocean liners, cruise ships, or Panamamax container ships. Meet ships along the way and take care to avoid collisions. Autotrack guides your ship as you control the engines and path. Watch for traffic and signals in the canal or watch the sun rise and set over the Caribbean and the Pacific. With buttery-smooth physics, rich vivid graphics, and ultra-realistic atmosphere and lighting, Panama Canal will set the standard for PC simulator games for years to come.

WITH SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

Simple and fun enough for kids and accurate and thorough enough for professional training, Panama Canal offers something for everyone! Hardcore simulator fans will revel in the advanced propulsion model, video game novices will appreciate the easy-to-use menus and controls that make playing super easy! Start the simulation and your ship is underway. Increase speed with the ‘D’ key. Slow by cutting your power with the ‘A’ key, and toggle your ship’s anchor with the ‘Back’ key to stop. Press F5 to toggle the HUD, F6 to show landmarks, and F7 to show other vessel traffic. Sound your ship’s horn with the ‘Space’ key and change views with keys 1 thru 6. It’s as simple as that. The ship is on a track and the water is holographic.. there’s no chance you’ll get lost and there’s no chance of seasickness.

European Ship Simulator

European Ship Simulator

This is a most enjoyable game, but there is some room for improvement. The graphics, especially of bridge interiors, are excellent. While I’m not an expert on ship physics, they seem pretty good. The learning curve for this game is not too steep, by and large, and after a couple of early failures, I have played about 75% of the missions and passed them all. However, the game does have one or two little bugs, and there are some areas where it could improve:

  1. The text goes weird when you try to change the settings. It’s OK initially, but when you go back a screen after making your desired change, it all gets screwed up somehow.

Real player with 21.7 hrs in game

Pretty darn good game so far. I would say that if you are looking for a fast and furious action type simulation, this game isn’t for you. I you are looking for a realistic simulator designed to test your skills at navigating ships, then this is one to buy. The graphics are good for an early release game and the physics of the ships seems pretty accurate. I have owned boats most of my life and I would day that they control pretty much as I would think a ship would with the exception of the tug boat which seems a little overpowered. The modeling of the water is incredible. You really get the feeling that you are out on the ocean in the weather and waves.

SH3 is one of those games that you need to invest time in. It is a perfect example of a “Dad game,” as Yahtzee Crowshaw once put it. It’s meticulously detailed, and you must learn all of the different eccentricities of the sub to be a great captain.

It uses the real-life technological limitations from WWII to define the gameplay. Want to fire off a torpedo? A standard gas-powered torpedo leaves a trail of bubbles in the water, which ships can detect in advance and will swerve to avoid your torpedo. You can fire an electric torpedo, but you’ll need to be close, or else the battery in the torpedo will die and it won’t reach your target. SH3 is filled with these sorts of tactical nuances that really make it satisfying to play.

Sub Command

Sub Command

Not so much a game as a second job: you can let the auto-crew do much for you but let’s face facts: the appeal of this game is how much it demands from you. Want to work out the firing solution for the 89cm ADCAP torpedo manually? Of course you do, this game was written for you.

The plotline (nasty Russians go to war with the USA for some reason) is not really developed - I’m halfway through the US campaign - BUT the opportunity to play the campaign from the Russians' perspective is a very welcome, plus you have to re-learn the entire control system, this time using the metric system.

This is the sequel to Jane’s 688(i) Hunter/Killer but now under the flag of Sonarlysts. Most features have already been mentioned in my review of 688(i) so I will try to tell only the difference between these two:

  • Higher resolution and better graphics

  • 3 plattforms to operate (688(i), Seawolf, Akula)

  • Single missions and campaigns which can be played as US or russian.

  • Use your voice to command your ship completely (navigation, firing at a certain contact etc.)

The most important part feature, which came afterwards for Sub Command, is the big SCX mod:
