I’m always looking for new RTS games since they are a rare thing these days. However, Im often very dissapointed by what I find.

Well, that is NOT the case with war party !!!

This game is only on early access but it’s impressive how good it is ! it’s easy to understand as it possesses a lot of classical RTS mechanics but also some new stuff that make the game deep, fun and challenging.

The + :

  • cool and unusual universe (caveman x dinos x vaudou) : You can produce some T-rex ans some mounted velociraptor or go with some witch doctor and zombies

As a long time supporter going back all the way back to the alpha, here are my thoughts about the game as of launch.

The strengths:

  • 3 asymmetric, visually distinct factions.

  • Will have a campaign in the full release.

  • Dedicated servers are near-flawless. Forget about desyncs, laggy gameplay due to peer to peer etc.

  • League-rank system just like in Starcraft 2.

  • Excellent matchmaking that expands search, starting at your ELO. This makes for close games once you stabilize your ELO.

“So i had around 40 hours in this game, it is not good it is not bad either. Missions lack in challenge, they are mostly the same, protect this, defeat that. The later part where the aliens apears was slightly better but i wish game is longer, more ship classes and details. However for people who like this kind of game its okay. Graphics, could be better, much better.

Would i recommend this game?

Game recieved many negative reviews, and mostly because it didnt deserve positive ones, for the current price of 14,99EUR i wouldnt recommend this game. If you find it on sale, for cheap, try it, you wont lost anything except few hours of your life. I would give positive on this one since i did had fun in skirmish with this game, and because i love some of the ship designs. Otherwise if there is neutral button i would hit instead.

This game feels like it is still in beta with all the glitches.

Good concept. I enjoy how quickly bases can be built if you have the resources which makes comebacks not entirely out of the picture. Easy to pick up.

Ships will shake violently when trying to move and sometimes won’t even move when part of a large selected group. AI is horrible for skirmishes. I played a skirmish where the AI player sent its starting construction ship to where I was building my fleet about 5 minutes into the game and it was destroyed easily ending the game.

Save One More

Save One More:

One of the many honourable serviceman on the battlefield is the one with the role of the Medic. These individuals are exposing themselves to the same dangers and fears as any other soldiers in battle. Not only do they have to dodge bullets and upcoming bomb shells, just like any other warrior, but their primary job is to get to their wounded comrades as fast as possible, without thinking twice about their own life. They definitely have a super sense of hearing to be able to make out the call, “Medic,” between explosive shells and whistling bullets. What courage these men must have in such chaotic situations, motivated by the thought, “I must save one more.”

--- 6/10 A nice twist on war gaming Short good game. I quite like art style. A few tweaks would make a huge difference: Firstly: cut scenes should be skipable. secondly: the game displays wounded/saves/dead if one soldier goes down 5 times and you save it 4 times before it dies score would be 5/4/1\. when your dealing with groups of 20 or 30 soldiers its very hard to tell how many units are currently down. Quite a few times I though I'd revived all wounded only to have the dead count surprise me by going up. *– [Real player with 5.0 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198873542904)* --- ![Ancestors Legacy](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/620590/header.jpg "") ## Ancestors Legacy ### Overview: Ancestor’s Legacy is a hybrid game of RTS and Real-Time Tactics(RTT) Gameplay, though it likes to side a bit more with the RTT genre. While this game has base building, it isn’t in the typical sense. The player is given a main base camp that has a build menu. After clicking the button to build a structure, the structure is built by peasants at a location predetermined by the game. The base camp is also not the main place the player will get resources. A variety of villages of different sizes are scattered around each map with resource points attached to them. Each faction has different specialties. Units can be leveled up and be given armor to increase their power. The squad limit is set at 10\. The game uses a Rock-Paper-Scissors style system to make some armies great at defeating others, but each factions version of the army has their own individual stats. The graphics are phenomenal, the sound design is great, and the campaign is excellent. *– [Real player with 35.8 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198055780740)* These people nailed what a limited base building unit capped RTS should be. There are choke points, open fields, water that slows you as you move through it (including swamps), trap building, terrain elevations & weather effecting line of sight (and fire), special traits per unit per factions that still feels balanced. It executes exceptionally well on limited base building RTS with unit creation and replenishment and rewards well thought out RTT gameplay as all units level and can be upgraded thus rewarding teamwork and unit specialization with the population cap, traps, and size of the map encouraging strategy whilst limiting unit production to the starting base and permitting unit replenishment at any captured (ally) village for a nominal fee. *– [Real player with 33.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198018451716)* --- ![Dog Duty](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/578690/header.jpg "") ## Dog Duty ``` Hey! Published by Dutch veteran's [SOEDESCO](https://www.soedesco.com/) (of Owlboy fame), the game took me by surprise! *– [Real player with 10.9 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198007866241)* Dog Duty is an ok game. It captures the spirit of an old school real time tactical squad combat game. You control a squad made up of 3 mercenaries, with each mercenary having one special ability. You can change their equipped gun and you have available consumable items such as molotovs to deal damage over a large area and syringes to immediately restore health. Your goal is to conquer the three bosses in each zone and head on to defeat the final boss. The tactical part of the combat is enjoyable enough with some minor gripes. It is pretty satisfying clearing the level of all enemies. There are some drawbacks though that take away from the experience though. The abilities do seem to be bugged in that sometimes they do not trigger for all of your allies. For example, one character has an ability that is supposed to heal your entire team. Sometimes it does not heal your entire team and this can lead to frustrating situations where your team wipes. The game does not control that well at times when units overlap and it becomes hard to select the desired target and action. *– [Real player with 9.6 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197967213759)* --- ![Firmament Wars](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/849790/header.jpg "") ## Firmament Wars Very simple and easy strategy game that is surprisingly addictive. I love strategy games, and one of FW's appeals is how quickly you can jump in to the game and accomplish a lot. This game is the kind of game I can play during a quick break from work and feel satisfied with my progress. Also can't complain about the price. Only wish there was a way to pause the game when playing offline, and also wish there were more single country maps as well. *– [Real player with 34.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198053517469)* This game is steal at just over $2, me and friends have had hours of fun for a game that costs the price of a cup of coffee. We bought this game a couple days ago and we have already invested over 40 hours between us all. Strategy games never really interest me probably cause I like brain-dead FPS titles but this game is easy to pick up yet hard to master which is perfect to sink hours of gameplay into. It isn't all perfect and there are a few things I would change such as an outdated GUI and a poor singleplayer but such trade-offs *– [Real player with 19.4 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198013048476)* --- ![Sudden Strike 4](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/373930/header.jpg "") ## Sudden Strike 4 Hi all, I played the original Sudden Strike. Though only the demo map that was released at that time, what seems now so long ago.. :) But the title always stuck with me. I see here allot of die hard fans who give very disapointing reviews and to some point I can definately understand as compared to the original I can remember that the game qua single player was more difficult, bigger (just that demo map was already imense), some units had more options and the missing of the binoculars from the officer seems also a big deal. ^^ *– [Real player with 822.2 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197987276093)* I stumbled across Sudden Strike 4 on EA Origin. I didn't quite know what to make of SS4 at first, but I eventually ended up playing ~~200~~ 150+34 (so far) hours of the base game there! I finally decided I wanted to own - not just rent - SS4 here on Steam. Just as importantly, I wanted to directly support the developers and get the DLC. I've been gaming since the days of the original Nintendo. This is the first military RTS game I've ever owned* and put simply, it's one of the best games I've ever played, hands down! It's readily apparent that an experienced dev team put some real thought and effort into Sudden Strike 4\. The graphics and performance are excellent, and the re-playability makes it a superb value for the money. This game is basically a combined-arms tactical combat simulator that uses units up to company size. There are a wide variety of mission types, the complexity of which are further multiplied by the different doctrines available (Infantry, armor and logistical). The well-done AI and relative historical and geographical accuracy are also appreciable. *– [Real player with 185.1 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198860677408)* --- ![Arc Defence](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1262070/header.jpg "") ## Arc Defence Not the prettiest puppy on the block, but there is a good challenge to be had. *– [Real player with 2.2 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198006260288)* I plan on plugging away at this one a bit more, but for now I have to suggest you save your money, no matter how low the price. The core game-play is interesting. You have to build energy towers, which can then power up the attacking towers. Everything can be leveled up a few times, and gains a special ability once maxed out. You also get a small array of strategic attacks that recharge over time, bombs, and acid are the main ones I have so far. It is also one of the TD games where the enemy can shoot at you, and therein seems to lie the main issue, and by level four it seem impossible to win, as your towers are all out of commission much of the time. *– [Real player with 0.9 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198330888468)* --- ![Starship Troopers - Terran Command](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/1202130/header.jpg "") ## Starship Troopers - Terran Command **Starship Troopers - Terran Command** is a thrilling real-time strategy game set in the Starship Troopers movies universe. Take command of the Mobile Infantry and do your part in the war against the Arachnid threat. Build, develop and control your armies to strike an effective balance between tactical superiority and strength in numbers. Ensure that human civilization, not insect, dominates the galaxy now and always! #### Story Campaign The population of the harsh desert planet Kwalasha needs our help. Their daily lives of hard work in the mining industries has been disturbed by a new danger that they cannot face alone: the Arachnid. The Mobile Infantry will swiftly move in, take back control over the planet and smash everything that has more than two legs. Take part of this exciting military campaign, meet unique characters, see amazing locations and experience the heroic war against the Bug - all presented live on FED NET! #### Tactics & Numbers While the Arachnids can rely on virtually limitless numbers, the Mobile Infantry must develop effective tactics to overcome this imbalance. Deploy your units at strategic locations to cover vital choke points and gain superior firepower through tactical use of elevation levels. Be wary, however, that battle mechanics such as True Line of Sight and True Line of Fire also allow Bugs to lay ambushes around every corner, as they are well known for their use of surprise attacks and deception. #### Units & Abilities An expansive range of unique units, weapons, and special abilities are at the disposal of M.I. commanders. Infantry squads armed with Morita Assault Rifles and MX-90 Fragmentation Grenades form the mainstay of your forces. Rocket Troopers deliver deadly payloads with pin-point accuracy while Engineers are vital to shore up defensive positions with MG turrets, barricades, and minefields. As a campaign progresses, technological breakthroughs unlock the true potential of the Federation’s arsenal with E-Pulse rifles, TAC Fighter airstrikes, heavily armed Marauder mechs, and many more developments optimized for spraying Bug ichor across the battlefield. #### Key features - An immersive storyline campaign featuring unique missions, characters and a lot of Starship Troopers flavor - Dozens of unique unit types, each with their own special abilities. - Terrain elevation, True Line of Sight & True Line of Fire provide deep tactical gameplay. - Manage a fleet of dropships, expand your base infrastructure and capture strategic positions to strengthen your forces and unlock new weaponry - Heroics, explosions, gore, and Bugs. Lots of Bugs. --- ![Close Combat: The Bloody First](https://cdn.cloudflare.steamstatic.com/steam/apps/811880/header.jpg "") ## Close Combat: The Bloody First Do I recommend this game? Yes, If your looking for a classic close combat game. However, I still have to bring up the fact that this game still feels pretty bare bones. After playing through the entire campaign with the US, I tried to play a campaign as the Germans. And, well, I know its a game about the American division and the fighting it encountered, but if you're going to include the ability to play a German Campaign then you should be at least pretending that the same unit was fighting the whole time. *– [Real player with 146.7 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197981468631)* I really wanted to like this game, i may in the future if the game breaking issues are fixed but for now I would Stay away from this game. I ignored the fact that the graphics look terrible for 2019-2020 thinking i was going to get the classic feel of cc with the detailed platoon and company creation and in depth map navigation giving it a realistic feel during combat and in some cases they did do well with keeping those aspects in the game but the game itself is so bugged and poorly optimized that its design ruins almost all of my game attempts, i was able to complete the grand campaign with few bugs that caused me to restart the game but when going back through and playing the Italian campaign and again on the African campaign I ran into such terrible problems that I felt I had to say something, for one the AI is terrible, LOS fails to spot enemy literally 3 feet away, troops fail to load or fire at all when given fire orders, or will just wander out into the open and get shot, or fail to find cover when ordered to do so, troops will run up to enemy tanks when they get close and throw grenades at point blank range killing themselves without orders. The bazookas, mortars, all artillery, and air support accuracy is a complete joke and honestly feels like a complete roll of the dice when using them. Enemy tanks can glitch into each other creating impervious bunkers that your troops just fail to comprehend when it happens and kills almost anyone who gets near them, HQ teams do not feel like they give any kind of bonus, vehicles and troops navigate terrain terribly and cause you to click on multiple locations before they stop saying, "no clear path". Some missions would end with me taking all objectives and breaking enemy morale and even though that should progress you to the next mission I ended up being forced to repeat them. Also, after experiencing these issues, if you choose to quit a game you will be greeted by chicken sounds, I guess the devs thought that would be funny but with the experiences I had with this game that little addition just makes me dislike this unfinished product even more. This game was never worth 40 bucks, it feels like an upgraded version of sudden strike 3 and i cant even remember how old that game is… I would say $20 is even too much for this game in its current state, that said, i still hope the devs stick with it and fix its issues because it is a game that has great potential but as a consumer I just dont advise others to buy this game right now but would say to check back some time later. *– [Real player with 131.9 hrs in game](http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198198647537)* ---
