Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront

Call to Arms - Gates of Hell: Ostfront

Lots to like about this game - single player (multiple modes), multiplayer (coop and pvp), AI is challenging in SP mode. The dynamic campaigns have great replayability. Graphics and sound are excellent. Realism is pretty good - still plenty of compromises for gameplay reasons, but it is immersive and intense nonetheless.

As far as downsides, the learning curve is pretty steep and some actions aren’t explained very well. Controls can be challenging [do I left-click or right-click to do that? Hey, I said to MOVE there, not drop a mortar barrage on your covering infantry!]. Some additions to the unit information page would be nice to have.

Fantastic game with so much attention to detail. Physics are amazing and still getting constant maintenance and content updates. After Assault squad Cold war I was worries that this would not live up to Assault Squad 1 & 2 but it does. Its great

Partisans 1941

Introduction

I was naturally interested in Partisans 1941, as real-time tactics games based on World War 2 are quite rare lately, especially when they offer a bit more unique view on skirmishes behind the enemy lines rather than on commanding the Red Army. In the end, it surprised me how I was thrilled to start a new mission each time, but my enthusiasm went a bit down due to constant performance issues and occasional minor bugs. As if we could not get a decently done game in all aspects lately.

I was really craving a game like this for a very long time and it has definitelly scratched that itch. It really reminded mo a lot of the old Commandos games. I’ve been ingame for 32 hours, but I would say it took me about ~28 to complete the story. If you can afford is, the game is totally worth the buy, I really enjoyed it, but that said I would like to go into details about some (not all) of the games mechanics and give my feedback about what I enjoyed and disliked. Please feel free to comment with anything and especially with updates if something has been resolved. Sooo this is my first proper review on steam, and I didnt know there was a word limit. I was actually 5650 words over the limit in my original review which you can find here here and nelow is a very, very reduced version of the original.

World War 2 Craft (二战演义)

The levels do not seem to have a reasonable difficulty. The first mission is nearly impossible to complete with the forces given before one of the three bridges explode. However, game has a lot of potential if some UI and balancing fixes are made.

Commandos 2 - HD Remaster

This game is frustratingly buggy. I love the original and I have tried to look past the bugs of the remaster because, overall, it’s still a good game. the number of bugs seems to keep growing. They fix one, but introduce multiple other ones. This game deserves a “if you really liked the original” handwave icon. It’s definitely a weak yes, but it’s also still good enough to not be a no – because of the original.

The most recent patch did not fix my save game (so I begrudgingly started the level over), but it did allow me to complete the game. However, now the game sometimes locks up when viewing the Bonus book screen (before opening it) and gets stuck with the inventory windows open – the first requiring a full game restart and the second only requiring a reload.

I’m fine with buying the game. But, the developers also made the decision to remove the bad-guy symbols (like the swastika, or the Japanese flag); in a game where you play as the people fighting against the bad guys. “Not buying the game” is an absence of a signal, whereas “thumbs down” is a better signal of disagreement with the artistic decision than if I just left +1 on a thread.

Several of the negative (and positive) reviews of the game frown on the removal of ‘political symbols’. Which would indicate a community disapproval, if it weren’t for:

NAVYFIELD

This is the father of all naval games, yes it may be grindy but that’s all MMOs.

Pros:

FANTASTIC ship customization(no custom paints or skins but you can fully customize your weapon load, ammo, etc)

Friendly graphics that are still appeasing but easy on low end PCs

Great sounds/music

Sim-cade gameplay (combines realistic and arcady style of play) You can choose if you want to set your gun angles by ourself instead of the auto aim function, along with things like belt armour, deck armour, etc.

Huge selection of ships in which some can be remodeled into more powerful or different ships of it’s class (ex: The Admiral Hipper CA can be remodeled to Prinz Eugen)

Do i enjoy the game? YES!

Old vet since start of the game and played nfeu later on. Now back thanks to steam.

Pro’s

  • arcade style battles (quick)

  • low demands on pc requirements (to low for todays standards)

  • diverse community

  • games 24/7 cause people from the whole world are in 1 server (does have lag when chinese play )

  • for old players its mostly the nostalgic value that counts.

Con’s

  • The game is so old that you cant run fullscreen unless you force it through your monitor

  • alot of crashing (not for me personally)

Зато у нас воевала Польская Армия, официальная армия вашей страны, которую мы одели, вооружили и помогли освободить свой дом..

STORY: I will skip this part to avoid spoilers. But it is meaningful and very realistic for WW2. LEVEL DESIGN: levels are huge, much bigger than D3. They are set in various range, from ruined towns, battles, villages, concentracion camp, prison, military base … .Graphic is most awesome part, for sure best graphic in rtt genre. There is more night levels than D3 and ST. Levels have more gimmicks and environment kills which give on richness of it. Visual representation of war is astonishing. CHARACTERS: All have 4 skills and 5th spot is for something special in some missions. They mixed traditional character archtypes skills and split out on 7 characters. There is no knockouts in this game, but there is stunning. MANFRED: Knife/Whistle/Watch/Rifle – knife is for melee kill, whisle is to lure and wider range, watch is also lure but with narrow range and it is more used for some setups that to lure and rifle is standard with very wide range of noise. That is problem in demo levels which are smaller than rest so that is what Sardukar point about that half map come after you. Can climb vines. Can disguise as soldier but officer see through disguise. EWALD: Fist/Bottle/Brawl/Machine gun – bottle to lure, brawl to kill 2 guards similar to Mugen sword attack. And he can use bazooka in some levels.

Blitzkrieg 3

The “Don’t Escape Trilogy” is a collection of three short first-person point-and-click adventures with static screens (no camera movement, no scrolling). The games share a creepy atmosphere and a few gameplay mechanics, but are otherwise unrelated. In the first game, you play a werewolf trying to lock himself away before a full-moon night, so that he won’t kill anyone when he turns. In the second game, you’re trying to barricade a house and protect yourself from a zombie horde. In the third game, you’re the only surviving crew member on a spaceship and need to stop “something” from getting out.

Even though the entire trilogy is available for free on Armor Games, I chose to purchase this game series on Steam because that’s how amazing ScriptWelder really is. The Deep Sleep and Don’t Escape series were some of the first PC games I ever played, and I have ScriptWelder to thank for making my early experiences so magical. I have followed each and every game you have published on AG, hunted down every achievement, set of choices, and walkthrough I could find… simply, because every single second I spent in any of your games was one of either awe, wonder, fear, or curiosity.

Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter is an interactive war thriller which seamlessly blends tactical WW2 anti-submarine warfare simulation with a gripping storyline, presented through Hollywoodesque, interactive cutscenes. Take command of a meticulously reconstructed Fletcher-class destroyer and lead your crew against nazi U-Boats in the Battle of the Atlantic!

The story unfolds through a choice and consequence mechanic, allowing the player to shape the fate of the crew plunged into a deadly struggle against a devious and stealth enemy. They will have to overcome both the underwater threat and their own shortcomings in order to make sure that the convoy they are protecting makes it safely across the pond.

Lead a whole destroyer squadron and make tactical decisions to protect your sheep from the steel wolves. Track contacts and plot anti-submarine attacks using authentic equipment. Experience war at sea from the perspective of a tin can sailor, and shape the story as it develops, making key decisions both in and outside the heat of battle.

It is all in your hands, captain! Will you lead your men to victory by making sure that your convoy reaches its destination, or will it fall prey to enemy torpedoes, depriving the allied war effort of the precious supplies you were trusted to protect? Only you can answer the question!

Men of War™

You may think this game is good at first. You may think that me having clocked in over 200 hours means it must be good. But really, this game is like cocaine. You’ll use it once, think it’s interesting, then keep going. Soon you’ll know it’s bad, and that it’s just constantly killing you, but you’ll keep going, hoping it’ll go back to the good it once seemed to be. If you’re lucky like me, you’ll escape and never play this again.

Let me explain my opinion a little more. This game is essentially an RTS with guns, tanks and artillery. That’s fun and fine in itself, at least on paper, but it necessitates a few things. For example, if you have troops with guns, you expect that they’ll be able to shoot enemies, and generally get things done without your constant aid. Not in Men of War. Your troops will frequently throw grenades into their own squads, waste ammo shooting at nothing (yeah, you have to keep track of every troop’s ammo), miss enemies at point blank range, stare at the last sighted enemy even if they’re miles out of range, stop running in favor of standing in a field trying to shoot an invisible sniper, or just flat out do something that makes no sense. This is only the beginning.

Steel Rain

Steel Rain

Are you fed up with arcade strategies with units fighting in almost hand to hand distances?

Bored with slow-paced simulators with UI that could be used as torture tool?

Steel Rain

Why?

We are accustomed to the idea that realistic war games almost always lack in graphics, audio, UI department and need lot of time to play.

But they don’t have to. They shouldn’t….. and that’s why Steel Rain idea was born.

We believe that’s because war game developers usually aren’t players and lack passion for their products.

Time to prove that you don’t need to choose between fun or realism!

Who?

Founded and designed with passion by long time war games player raised on classic series like Steel Panthers, Sudden Strike, Blitzkrieg, Combat Mission, Soldiers: Heroes of World War II, Company of Heroes etc. who believe that the best WWII themed game has yet to come :)

How?

Thanks to vast experience and passion with war games we could take the best from both worlds: casual strategies and realistic war games, without neglecting audio and UI departments that we believe are as important as good visuals for truly immersive and fun wargame experience.

Not less important is also community engagement with game and it’s development.

What?

Steel Rain is designed at the very foundation with modding support and multiplayer game modes. It’s more war gaming sandbox/platform than some yet another casual WWII themed RTS.

Steel Rain is not just game. It’s not just another project. It’s a dream. It’s a mission to make the ultimate World War II gaming platform, without any compromises.
