Lemnis Gate

Lemnis Gate

After playing this game on release, I said this about the title:

“Unique time travel elements make Lemnis Gate the most intriguing competitive shooter. The struggle to outmaneuver your opponent with mindful planning and skillful execution is exhilarating.”

Now that the game has been out for almost two months, I still agree with this statement. However, there are still some issues with the game. I’ll list some positives and negatives, ordered by how important/impactful I find them. Keep in mind that I have only played and am only interested in 1v1 turn-based. Some of my points probably apply to other modes as well, but in my mind, Lemnis Gate = Competitive 1v1 turn-based.

Lemnis gate has amazing potential. I know some players have experienced game breaking bugs. But thats not my experience, it can be buggy, the server does crash every so often. But I believe the devs can fix this later.

Now the gameplay, holy shit, its so good. This is the freshest game I’ve ever played, the concept hasn’t been done before and I love it. It feels like a game of chess with all the interaction and counter play. There is a pretty steep learning curve, more so then most FPS games. But once you get the basic idea of how the characters work, it all clicks together with how many options you have. Learning the ins and outs can be a little painful, but that feeling when you pull a massive 200 IQ play and completely blindside the enemy is worth every bad play you make along the way. its $20, great to play with friends. Give it a go, you wont regret it.

Carrier Battles WW2: Admiral of the Fleet

OK big Leaguers, this game is fun! Reminds me of the old Carrier Strike game. Easy to learn.

Now that I have a few hours of play, I can quibble about minor annoyances, and will later, but the basic game-play is FUN. Send out your search planes, find the enemy task force before they find you, and sick your cap, dive bombers, and torpedo planes on them.

Developers should play the steam game ‘Fleet Command’, a lot of great ideas can be had that would improve this game even more.

Developers have already fixed most of my quibbles with game patch updates!

I had got this game on the first day, and i felt that the controls were rather confusing, and that there wasn’t a clear objective.

This game on the other hand seems very unfinished, so i hope i see graphic updates that make this game a little more user friendly. I did however play this game on launch, so what i have seen is untapped potential. I would not recommend purchasing this game for now, but within time I believe that this game will become not only playable, but fun and entertaining!

P.S.-I really like the art style

No Plan B: Prologue

“When your army has crossed the border, you should burn your boats and bridges, in order to make it clear to everybody that you have no hankering after home.“Sun Tzu.

.

.

With that in Mind. This game teaches you to lay it all on the LINE when wagering your plan of execution against the enemy.

.

“NO BACKSIES”. you can drill and rehearse over and over fine tuning your approach on an occupied structure but eventually you must execute the plan. At which point you can not change it. Failure is constant success is scarce in this game but the more you play the more aware you become in the strategic head space.

This is an excellent game and a surprisingly playable demo. If you liked games like Door Kickers, Breach&Clear, Frozen Synapse you will definitely enjoy this one.

PROS

  • Excellent timeline system. It eliminates the most frustrating part of Door Kickers: the hassle around syncing operator movement. In No Plan B you can easily ensure that everyone enters into the new room in the perfect moment.

  • Active, responsive developer.

  • Daily, weekly and monthly challenges sneak in a little competitiveness.

Steampunk Timer

Steampunk Timer

Steampunk Timer is a Dilated Time Tactical Action game that combines classic real time strategy with a roguelite progression and reward system. It takes place in a dystopian Victorian-style city dominated by the uncontrolled use of machines with the capacity to fold time.

In the industrial city of Victoria, the wealthy lords of the Manorborn Society possessed technology capable of folding time to enrich themselves indefinitely - until now. Faced with the growing impoverishment of the working class, the Traveling Theater Guild summons its actors to master this technology and give the aristocracy a show they will never forget.

And what about you? Are you the protagonist or a figurant?

Features

  • Tactical action with dilated time strategy. Make use of your time machine and enter Dilated Time Mode (DTM). It slows down the time around you so you can choose the best tactic to ambush your enemies.

  • Roguelite game system. Choose up to 6 characters in a run, select one of the routes generated after each mission and buy the most suitable improvements for each situation. You will be defeated, but do not despair. In each new beginning, you will be wiser than before.

  • Pixel-art style graphics. Enjoy the pixel-art style of its settings and the fluid animations of its characters, drawn frame by frame, pixel by pixel.

  • 4 bosses to defeat. Complex and spectacular battles that will require preparation and quick reflexes. Too easy? Fight hordes of enemies guarding secret rooms or face the Infinite Basement challenge.

  • 10 charismatic characters with unique abilities. Choose the Hunter to make quick ambushes, or the Assault to shoot at medium range, but don’t forget the Scout to collect and distribute resources among his allies. Combine your characters to create the most fearsome unit in Victoria City.

  • 200+ upgrades and equipment to unlock. Were you planning to send your actors to the dangerous streets without good equipment? Get food rations to unlock gear and upgrades that will only be available during the current run. Also, get scrap metal and repair the Railway-Theater to unlock equipment which can appear in your next runs.

  • 50+ fully destructible scenarios in 15+ different biomes. Clear that street. If you choose to go north you will go through that building; if you go south you will arrive at the port crossing a park. Choose your route at the end of each mission and contemplate the beautiful places that Victoria City has prepared for your visual delight. But do me a favor and don’t reduce the city to rubble on your way, would you kindly?

John Wick Hex

John Wick Hex

John Wick Hex is a hex grid strategy game that takes place in the world of John Wick and you play as the Baba Yaga himself. Most people don’t think of strategy game and John Wick in the same sentence, expecting any John Wick game to be a mindless shooting game. This may be a valid expectation but John Wick Hex really captures the feeling of being John Wick and using skill and strategy to come out on top even when vastly outnumbered and outgunned.

If you’ve ever played a game like X-Com before then you know the basics of this type of strategy game only in John Wick Hex you don’t have a squad; you are just one man. You can move around, shoot at enemies, refocus, reload (if you have ammo), bandage, throw your gun at an enemy, or if you’re close enough to them initiate melee combat with strikes, parries, pushes, and takedowns. You have to keep track of your health, your weapon’s ammo, and your focus meter which is used to perform parries, takedowns, and dodges during melee combat. Before each mission there is a level map where you can use your Continental coins to purchase buffs/perks and stash weapons or equipment in the level. You may have to change your play style based on what perks you buy so this adds an element of replayability. At the end of each stage you can watch a real time replay of your actions in the level complete with cinematic camera angles.

I really wanted to like this game and it was enjoyable for a while, but in the end for me just misses the mark. It makes me sad because this game has so much potential but limited move options mixed with some poor designs and unnecessary RNG made the game more frustrating than fun.

I like the way all actions happen on a time scale and you can see what your enemies are about to do. Developers nailed this 100%. The move list isn’t bad and most have their place, but to really feel like John Wick there should have been more. In the movies John is constantly grappling one enemy while shooting another. This mechanic is missing. You can’t shield yourself from gunfire with another enemy. This makes the push option largely useless. I would have liked to see a push and shoot option where John can either shoot the enemy being pushed or another enemy while being shielded. There should have been a disarm move as well (or even further - disarm and keep weapon or disarm and discard weapon). We should have been able to chain moves together like a Roll into a Takedown or a Takedown into a Strike instead of John taking down a target, then selecting strike on the next and the target magically gets off the floor for John to do pre-rendered stance strike animation. This is just laziness by the devs.

ICBM

ICBM

ICBM is a great way to kill an hour, along with a few hundred million people. It’s got a bit of a learning curve to it but it’s simple enough that you can pick most of it up in 2 or 3 games.

What I find interesting (and a little terrifying) about ICBM is how nothing is permanent and how the game always keeps you at the edge of your seat, because much like a real nuclear war, you could find yourself and everything you’ve built being vaporized by thermonuclear weapons at a moment’s notice. If you build an airbase, the enemy can nuke that. If you build missile silos, the enemy can nuke that. If you build submarines, the enemy nuke that. The game effectively works out to be a scramble between you and your enemies as you try to keep tabs on where they’re keeping their city-melting goodies, as well as protecting your own, either by keeping them well-hidden, or building enough defences that the enemy can’t smash through them until you’ve already turned their continent into a giant radioactive parking lot. Then there’s also the question of “Should I attack first or is that going to end horribly for me and 85% of my country’s population”, which then promptly leads to the question of “But If I don’t do anything, are all my cities going to be on fire in 5 minutes” which means you’re always guessing, or always trying to find out.

I had to go back and change my original positive review to inform you not to buy this. Multiplayer community is dead and its been less than a month since the game lauched.

Game already has rampant hacking which ruins the game for everyone. Not to mention that the actual game itself is not really that fun after a few games.

Matches are 95% build up and 4% figuiring out who to attack and 1% fun combat. Most games you’ll build up for 35mins to literally not be able to use a single one of your nukes due to the game ending due to nuclear contamination via a massive barrage two guys release at once and even if you launched right then your nukes would not hit the ground before their nukes end the game.

Impressive game, and addictive! Full of incredible detail, it has a really charming dark / fun aesthetic & it’s not easy to master, believe me. Rewards repeat plays. Really worth it for the price.

Cool simple game.

Gameplay is not as easy as you think, you get only 3 lives to get as far as you can, and every time one of your band members “die” you have to start the stage over, game also requires fast reaction and strategic thinking since everything happens in real time.

Art is nice and tasteful, performance is as good as it gets, translation is ok.

Terminal squad: Sentinel

Terminal squad: Sentinel

A great concept of piloting a mech and fighting an alien horde through match three gameplay. You get a squadron of ‘J’s (every member of your eight woman team has a name that starts with the letter ‘J’) and must battle constantly spawning swarms of aggressive alien critters. I like the concept. The game is simple and puts you into the action right away. You level up, improve and configure each member of your troop independently. Every tenth level you will face an alien boss who will drop a new module which you can slot into your mech giving you either new or improved abilities. As you advance the levels the aliens will not only increase in strength and numbers but also hazards which affect the match three board (such as blocking sections of it).
