Radial-G : Racing Revolved

Radial-G : Racing Revolved

Radial-G is not Redout nor Wipeout. All of the tracks are tubular though not in their entirely, an important point from strategic racing perspective as you will want to maintain a downhill perspective for both time and visuals. For a small Indie effort and price there are enough tracks and ships, though the best ship is locked behind a multi-player level gate.

There are multiple modes; Battle (most positioning points over 4 races), Time Trial, Race, Eliminator, Rival and Combat (weapons included). You’ll breeze through the first of the two single player tiers or at least I did. The third tier is quite the challenge and this is where the game shines. While the game awards “PASS” just with a bronze trophy, the third tier will have you racing for a while.

I first played this 1st person Wipeout inspired game back in the Oculus DK1 days as a free demo which showed great promise.

Somewhere along the way, the potential crashed just like you’ll do many, many times in this confusing racer. The premise is simple - Wipeout in ships that can race on the outside of tubes.

Back in the early days of VR, roller coaster rides were very popular, and developers were competing to make the sickest rides, and it feels as though the devs of this game had the ambition to combine the fastest, most gut wrenching roller coaster ride, with an actual game… and failed.

Gameplay: 5 out of 10 We would actually raise my gameplay score up to 7 if the game breaking bugs were fixed. The game is actually fun but there are too many bugs to make you want to stay around for long.

Controls: 8 out of 10 The star of the show are the controls if you use the right controller. Head tracking is responsive and the ships move as well as you expect. You can easily destroy your enemies on tracks above you while careening down corridors, halfpipes, and hopping across ramps.

I’ve been following this game through it’s development so thought I should leave a review now that it’s out.

In short: This game is a lot of fun!

The visuals in the game are really pretty, and very atmospheric. I played on high quality at a friends and medium on my machine and I didn’t feel like I was losing any quality. The night tracks are especially good to look at.

One of my favourite things about the game is the way the car “feels” on the road. I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it feels nice and gritty. That’s not quite the right word, but I guess you can just give it a try. The cars feel like they have weight to them and the way they glide around some of the curves in the tracks is really satisfying.

I played entirely in VR on RIFT with a 1070 and Ryzen 5 2600 cpu.

This is no Project Cars 3 or Drive Club VR. There are no licensed cars and licensed tracks. What you get for your money is really fun if a bit unbalanced in places arcade racing game made by a small studio of 2 people over a period of a couple of years or so.

There are 5 types of car ranging from muscle car to F1 type car and they all feel very different to drive. The 19 tracks are all fantasy but really well done and not stupidly fantasy. From figure eights to Daytona to street tracks plus a valcano and ice track thrown in. What I mean by well done is they are laid out very decently. I found myself nicely getting into the groove when driving an f1 car around a street track in a 20 lap race. The rhythm was good and most of the tracks are like this. Well designed indeed.

MonoRaceVR

MonoRaceVR

MonoRaceVR is a monobike racing in the Virtual Reality with unique controls. Monobike is a bike with only one wheel :) I think you could meet people on the street on an electric Self-balancing unicycles, it looks very futuristic. The electric unicycles has a built-in gyroscope that keeps the balance, and for control you need to use the tilt of the body: leaned forward, the unicycles to balance the body goes forward, to brake, you need to stand up straight or even slightly lean back. To turn, you also need to bend in the right direction. We have transferred this control mechanism to the game. For our game, you do not need to stand or walk, you can play sitting down. Just lean forward and your monobike will start moving. Try it - it’s exciting.

You can just ride an electric unicycles in real life, but it is more difficult to arrange races in real life. We did it in VR! Starting from Single play. There will be a lot of tracks available and there will be several ways for passing on each of them. You can go along the main long way, and you can choose a more complex, but at the same time a short way. And there will also be backdoors, for the passage of which you will need to pass a mini-game.

In the career mode, you can train to pass the track for a while, complete tasks, study tracks and train in mini-games. For your perseverance you will receive achievements, and the best players will be able to find themselves in the leaderboards.

Knowing the track and being able to drive along it faster than anyone else is not all, you still need a powerful and fast bike. Upgrade your bike, make it the coolest and most unique: color it, add stickers and a logo. And if you are tired of the bike, sell it in the form of an NFT and start pumping a new one.

And of course, it’s much more interesting to compete not with stupid NPCs, but with other players. In multiplayer, you will have such an opportunity! Find your rivals and show that you are the best. And in regular tournaments, you can win valuable prizes: stickers, bike parts and even new cool bikes.

In the demo, we want to invite you to experience our unique controls and leave feedback in the comments how is it cool or poor.

RacetronicVR is a free Hover car driving, laser shooting, VR racing fun with a space freighter load of obstacles, shortcuts, power ups and secrets. It worked on my new system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. The graphics are low rez basic shapes and blocky. The UI was ok.

CONS: - the locomotion mode causes wild swinging movements.

Warning: This game will cause motion sickness in some players. I was trying the tutorial and within a minute of using the locomotion i was feeling sick.

Try it, if you have a strong stomach, Otherwise don’t bother downloading.
