21 November, 2018: I’ve nominated this game for The “Better with Friends” Award. Though you don’t really need anybody else to play with, this game does lend itself well to party play. Anyway, Steam required me to update a review to get the badge, so…
30 June, 2018: I’m re-writing this review, as the development over the last six months has made much of my original review obsolete.
This is a great “retro” racing game. Race up to 8 vehicles (currently 11 different vehicles to choose from) on various off-road courses. From the menu you can select the number of opponents as well as the number of laps. As of now there are about a dozen different tracks that you can race in either direction, plus more available through Stem Workshop. You can race a single track, or multiple tracks (& directions) for a total “season” of multiple races. Points are totaled for each race and if you finish in the top three you can see your car on the “podium” at the end. This works with single player versus AI opponents, or local multiplayer. The developers say that online multiplayer is something in the works, but it is not available as of today.

Overwhelming Positive! Very very good game!
I love one screen isometric racing games!!! (A LOT).
I will be waiting, ofc, for more updates and improvements.
My history on some of top downs/isometrics racing games:
Gran Prix Simulator. Amstrad 6128cpc. My first (love) one screen racing. It had a speech effect x’D
Professional BMX Simulator. Amstrad 6128cpc. Top down bmx racing… long time ago… :'(

Power Of Slide
Gymkhana drifting game inspired by Ken Block’s GYMKHANA video series.
Drift, complete missions, earn points, unlock new cars and customizations.
Try to learn how to drift in a limited space, perform spins and tricks.
A set of tasks at each level will not let you get bored, but you will have to work hard to collect all the stars.

Circuit Superstars
Good game, could use larger playerbase.
Ppl who want the save system in a game where full championships vs the AI take maximum of 30 minutes are funny

This is in my opinion now the pinnacle of top down racing. It is obviously more beautiful that Skidmarks and Supercars. It’s controls are more interesting that Micromachines. The races feel more interesting that games like Mantis Burn and Motorstorm RC. It’s taken from some of the best qualities of Generally.
It’s strange as the game feels like it’s barely finished (No online groups. Can’t save during Grand Prix which everyone complains about. Only one car per category) but I’d still much rather play this than any of the other games I’ve listed. The controls feel fantastic. The visuals are cute and fit the vibe wonderfully. The audio is enjoyable even though the menu music can get a little on the nerves after very long loops.

Gotcha Racing 2nd
I’ve expect a Good TDA Racer. And Gotcha Racing 2nd is one of them. But mixing in Gachapon elements? Might be bad. but this isn’t. Spending gold on gachapons rather than IRL Cash great let alone NO MICRO-TRANSACTION. Game play is how I expected (Even w/o Online MP). Race to win. Speedrun any tracks. And random Mini Games of 2. The key is: Getting the Best Parts and beef’em up to make it confident on Time Trials and show who the fastest. The Multiplayer is limited to Offline of 4 players. and not Online of 12 to 24 players. At least there’s Remote Play and Share Play support. Music-wise is good overall. The soundtrack seems underrated even for ASW standard. SFX-wise is the game hit the rough spot as if the sound mixing is poor. some glitches out, some goes in and out, some are loud, and some are quiet. Overall. The game is underrated, but good. despite my hate for RNG element. I go ahead and recommend this game to Top-Down Arcade Racing Veterans and Arcade Racing Fan out there.

Grade = D. Worth a buy, if you wanted to enjoy racing grinding, split-screen multiplayer. But if you’re looking for a good graphic effect, pretty car, don’t buy it.

Little Racers STREET
81 / 100
Top-down racing games in more recent years have been very hit and miss affair more often than not missing the ‘fun factor’ that makes this sort of game appealing. Little Racers STREET is an exception, although basic in respects to lacking the powerups & weapons often seen in the genre, the straight racing aspect is very enjoyable. You have good control over your car through the hundreds of combinations of tracks created through two larger city block maps. Having just the two main locations though, does result in some lack of variety on the scenery & terrain front.

Little Racers STREET is a top-down view arcade racing game that does exactly what it says. It’s a fun little game, but is a mixed bag for me personally.
This game is meant to be played from the top-down perspective, BUT this game is unplayable at some points, especially later down the road when you get the super fast cars. Buildings and other obstacles can block your view, even worse when there happens to be a corner that you have to take right there and slam taking damage. Thankfully there is a chase cam, but then you can clearly see how bad this game looks. There isn’t even a skybox. Just a grey/black void above you at all times. Going into the chase cam also makes this game a cakewalk, providing you can get past the AI.

Mantis Burn Racing®
Mantis Burn Racing….WHERE to begin! It’s a fun, top-down racing game. Just that simple. But it’s also much more. It’s a game of extreme skill (over time), as well as some unusually complex strategy. I’d guess from the point that I’ve reached that success is about half skill, and about half a carefully upgraded vehicle. But it’s also very much a game of patience, (and no small amount of grinding) as skills and currency are obtained. Especially for the lesser skilled player.
Mantis Burn Racing (MBR) is a “game of threes”:

This is, in my opinion, one of the best top-down racers I ever played. It controls so well, has great physics and it’s pure eye-candy to look at. It is also quite challenging, and definitely takes practice to master. It features an extensive campaign, so much so, that I haven’t finished it yet. I have to say tho, that the game is missing some basic settings such as keybindings, but on the other hand, it offers some surprisingly good cutting corners mechanics.
And yes, it is definitely grindy, you will find yourself replaying through races you already won just to reach that extra money (or gears) so can buy the next sub-class vehicle or meet the requirements of gears to progress to the tournament.

Mini Motor Racing X
A nearly perfect arcade racer and a remake that more than exceeds the original. I received the game free because I bought the original Mini Motor Racing Evo but I would have happily paid for it. This is arcade racing as it should be.
It’s a game that combines many classic elements of Super Cars, Super Sprint, Micro Machines, Skidmarks and Ivan Ironman Stewart’s Super Off Road Racer but also allows you to race in first person and third person camera views as well as the classic top down view.
PROS

Can’t speak to the new VR mode, but the non-VR mode is just as much of a blast as the original game (Mini Motor Racing EVO) was. If you’re looking for a fun arcade racer, and are willing to overlook some flaws, then this game is for you.
Unfortunately there are several issues (some that carry over from the original and are still very glaring):
-
The balancing for certain cars is still off, which is unfortunate, but you can still eke out a win with any car if it is upgraded enough.
-
The new maps are a nice (varied) addition, but the music for them isn’t as good as the original maps (most of the new tracks are generic rock that don’t really fit the theme of the map).

Race Arcade
They do a great job of emulating the classic overtop arcade racing games but there are a few bugs and downfalls mixed in. There are different cars to unlock and different “series” to complete but it only takes a few hours to unlock everything. There is a huge amount of tracks to race at as well. There are even a few IRL tracks such as Mazda Laguna Seca and SPA that have been transformed down to pixel tracks. This game is perfect if you are looking for quick and fun races for a short amount of time. The problem is that it gets slighly boring and too easy after a while.

tl;dr: 2D top down racer where the cars handle differently and have different racing lines. Some you have to oversteer, some you have to brake early for and accelerate out hard. Tons of tracks and a track editor, though cumbersome. Dead online multiplayer, awesome local co-op. If you like racing games, you’ll dig it. If you want a fun party game, you can have six people at once, two per controller. AI is okay, and if you like chasing fastest laps, you can enjoy the time trials.
More words:
I like racing games. For the most part, I play racing games. That’s about it. Sims, arcade, whatever, I like racing games. If you like racing games, this has a ton of appeal. It’s a 2D topdown racer with a hadful of cars, all of which handle differently, and a lot of tracks.
