Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure

Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure

TLDR: This game in its current state is already an insane value and if you like any Kart racing games its worth it.

The game is structured a lot like Sonics Racing games. Get 1,2, or 3 stars based off coming in 3rd, 2nd, and first place. more stars, more levels, more unlocks.

10 hours in of just playing adventure mode and I already get the sense that this will take me personally probably at least 30 hours of casual game play to 100% adventure mode. That alone is crazy to me for the price of this game.

I played the first Beach Buggy Racing on my Playstation 4 and back then it was decent and absolutely worth the money.

Beach Buggy 2 is a much more polished game and it especially shines with couch co-op. We’ve had guests over and this one of our more popular couch game.

Pros:

  • Fun

  • Unique (doesn’t feel like a Mario Kart clone)

  • Great split-screen support

  • Upgrading and trying different types of cars is a blast

Cons:

  • Needs more maps. Reverse mode and other challenges increase replayability, but there are still too few maps.

HOT WHEELS UNLEASHED™

Love the game, but it has some flaws. Purchased for myself and my 5 year son that loves hot wheels. He waited months for the game to come out, in pure excitement that his favorite hot wheels cars where in such an exciting racing game. All he wanted was the DeLorean from Back to the Future. Between the two of us, we beat every race and boss, and earned that DeLorean. As my little dude was admiring the car in his collection - he went to add it to his favorites and instead hits the wrong button and POOF! Car is gone.

The game is great, perphaps the best Hotwheels game ever produced, with fun gameplay, dozens of cars, a very advaced track editor and a decent challenge (Provided you set the game to hard instead of normal or extreme).

However as other have said the price is nuts, I collect batmobiles and I can tell you that this isn’t worth it, not only does the ultimate edition not include everything, this is the second game that I know of that has DLC for the DLC.

What do I mean? Ok, see that season pass? if you buy it you will have part of the content of it locked, especifically the villain cars which are sold separately, also just because you have the season pass and the villains DLC it doesn’t mean that you get the cars, they only become available to unlock in the season pass and grinding for them takes forever.

It’s a very unique game. Calm one if you are not into a tight time trial. The menu navigation and time trial being always ready on the map makes the game flow extremely smooth. When you have it running on your computer, it’s hard not to just casually throw yourself in another time trial that won’t result in any meaningful records.

The ship has a very simple control, it can pitch and yaw but not roll – flip and 360 but no barrel roll. You can use ‘snap’ aligning it to a surface to indirectly roll without snapping to the surface.

Great creative racing game in space, looks like Daft Punk and TRON.

Campaign mode that starts out tutorial-like but quickly becomes challenging. This will humble you and teach you patience at hyperspeed.

A free-roam/time-trial/exploration mode, XP to be gathered, new tracks to unlock.

I am hoping there will be more online players in the near future. This game deserves more players.

Good if you like:

tough games with simple controls

adrenaline

mariokart and wipeout and mario

new ideas

neon

Worth the price most definitely.

I liked this game for its realism, some minimalistic character. The game has a lot of different cars, very pleased that there is a lot of beautifully designed maps. Because of these reasons and many other things, the game attracts for many hours, I definitely advise you.

Offroad Racing - Buggy X ATV X Moto

Brief description:

This copy is the exact same as its predecessor (ATV drifts tricks), with additions of playable buggy and motocross

  • forgiving singleplayer season/career AI (plenty room for errors without breaking the harmony)

  • more arsenal to choose from, makes winning strategy on each track more possible

  • arcade-y. sports aspect blends into the game, which become rare by today’s standard

  • Unreal Engine 4 (decent visual quality, great optimizations, despite being exact port from Switch)

Very cool and simple game and finally someone who tackles a “motorstorm” like game.

It would be awesome to see four players split screen and LAN support.

The handling is a bit off, but I don’t know if it’s me or the game.

The art direction is simply awesome, love the design of the drivers and vehicles.

The tracks are easy to memorise, but they need something more to be unique, some more visual clues, especially those desert ones.

The number of tracks and vehicles is good, but it would be awesome to see some more added in the future.

BAJA: Edge of Control HD

BAJA: Edge of Control HD

I rate this game Very, Very Positive. I acknowledge it’s lackluster racing wheel support and thanks to previous reviewers' “head’s up” I was not at all surprised when my old MS FFB Sidewinder wheel wasn’t recognised during controller set up. Howevever, the controller I used (XBox gamepad) worked flawlessly. In fact, I would say the lack of racing wheel support is now a non-issue for Baja:EoC…I don’t believe I said that…especially since I HATE the lack of fine control in steering when I use a gamepad. I was able to weave through opponents with precision. Very surprising. Gameplay is exciting and realistic…the AI opponents have a temper and I don’t get away with much during a heated race. Multiplayer (split screen) worked without an issue. The black line (bug?) cutting off your upper field of view when in cockpit, as mentioned by another reviewer, is still there, but I switched to another view without an issue. If it’s a bug, they need to fix it. Graphics are clean and crisp, framerate with a GTX970 hovers around 120fps with all the bells and whistles on “high”. Sound is great and allows me to hear when an opponent is catching up and on what side of me he is on.

I’m recommending this because it seems devs are watching the forums and intend on patching the game to fix issues that people are having. Wheel setup is hit and miss at best at the moment. If it becomes apparent that the game isn’t supported I’ll change my review.

Great physics and tense racing, all the good fun of the original seems to be intact, plus the bump in FPS from the 360 really makes a ton of difference in dynamics and just how lively the racing feels and I cannot wait to tear up some silt in online games, which I could never really do on the consoles.

Bang Bang Racing

Bang Bang Racing

Bang Bang Racing is pegged as a top-down “family friendly” racing game. With a similar camera angle and toy-car style as TNT Racers (released earlier this year) you’ll race with four different car classes among three gameplay modes in an attempt to earn the gold trophy in each championship circuit. Bang Bang Racing strips away things like power-ups and weapons in favor of a simple and pure racing game. Unfortunately what’s left is a rather boring racing game with little in the way of any replay value.

As a seasoned player of this game, I would recommend it as a 7/10, but it is definitely not without flaws. I’ll list the pros, cons and debatable features from my experience so you can decide if you think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did!

Pros

  • 4 Player splitscreen, a rarity on PC. I spent most of my time playing this mode.

  • Simple and yet brilliantly original car damage/pit stop system

  • Good variety of tracks with different routes

  • Car class system lets you pick the speed you want to race at

Do you like a challenge? A race game? What about a race against time? Well when you buy this game I assure you that you will inevitably fall or harm the driver; but with great sacrifice comes… (add inspiring stuff here). Back to the point: It’s a challenging game but enjoyable nevertheless. The new update added new “karts” to play around with also bug fixes! Hurrah!

I also really like the aspect of having millions of tracks to try; a new game always has a fresh taste.

So overall its a fun game, reccomended.

F1 RACE STARS™

F1 RACE STARS™

I really enjoyed this game and I think that my playtime proves it. However, I feel that this enjoyment comes from being a part of a specific generation rather than the game’s own strengths. When I was a kid, all of my friends stopped whatever we were doing to watch Schumi’s legendary, record breaking 2002 Championship in a country where football is inconceivably more important than any other sport. I also remember a day at the mall when I found a demo Nintendo DS with Mario Kart at a store, playing and mastering it for hours while my parents were shopping. Last one is skipping school countless times to play Blur (2010) with my friends at an internet cafe, finally thinking that PC had a viable Mario Kart competitor.

F1 Race Stars

A competent and challenging kart/arcade racer

F1 Race stars is a Kart Racer/Arcade racer set in the 2012 F1 season with all real drivers and teams. The game is in the same sort of league as Mario Kart and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing. Not quite as fast paced but at times more challenging.

No drifting here, Unlike most Kart/Arcade racers where drifting is needed to win, drifting does not feature at all in this game. However you are required to approch corners with a more realistic racing line using your brakes. On kers corners you charge up your kers in the corner by keeping the car controlled and releasing when you leave the corner. If you go into a corner at full speed you will crash.

Krautscape

Krautscape

Great indie title. My roomate and I love playing this game. Ping Pong is our favorite mode. This game is so much more than just “Mario Kart with wings.” Flying slows you down, but it takes less distance than driving the track. It’s all about getting to the destination as fast as possible, even if that means driving the “wrong direction” or flying over huge distances to skip most of the track. You constantly have to decide if you want more acceleration or a shorter distance, which allows for a lot of interesting gameplay. Often times, two people will drive/fly in two different directions to get to the goal, then one person will end up at the finish line just a few tenths of a second behind the winner.

A promising game with some major issues.

Krautscape is an online" fly/race game that tries to get away from the traditional race genre.

You play as some folded origami bird and try to complete a map as quick as possible be it driving or flying. Probably a good deal of both. The track is just there..if you think you can take a shortcut, go for it!

You might be rewarded for your guess or severely punished.

On top of that there is the aspect of ‘make your track as you go’. Can’t say how interesting that is ‘cause I havn’t been able to find someone to play online with EVER (and there are lots of people who own/owned this much longer than me who experienced thesame issue..)
